Doctor Who Magazine 498 Cover and Details

Out today in the UK is issue 498 of Doctor Who Magazine as they take a look at the 10th Doctor and Donna box set from Big Finish.

The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble are returning for a brand new audio series and David Tennant and Catherine Tate are thrilled to be back in the TARDIS…

DWM asks the actors themselves whether the scripts for their new audio series capture the past or reimagine it:

“I think they do and they don’t,” David Tennant ponders. “Each episode on TV would go to a slightly different place, and have a slightly different set of criteria, and tell a story in a slightly different way. I think, in that sense, they’re very representative of the shows that we did on TV. Obviously the characters are the same, and they have that relationship that you will, I’m sure, recognise. But they’ve been put into some slightly different, new situations, with new types of stories.”

“And a new way of telling the story,” adds Catherine Tate, “because this is audio. But obviously, by necessity, the convention of an episode is going to be the same, isn’t it: you arrive somewhere, something goes wrong, and then it’s all okay again. But I think these ones have been really original, and very fun to do.”

“Yes, it’s telling stories in a slightly different way,” David Tennant agrees. “But you’ll certainly recognise the same show, if you’re listening to these. When you put your headphones on, you’re going to recognise the world you’re in.”

Doctor Who - The Ark Review

Doctor Who:
The Ark
By Paul Erickson & Lesley Scott

“The success of all we stand for, everything aboard this spaceship is suddenly endangered by the strange fever. A fever brought by these strangers in our midst!”

The Doctor and Steven and new companion Dodo arrive in a strange place which doesn’t make much sense with the types of animals living together.  Dodo has a cold and is sneezing all over the place. The problem is its 10 million years into the future and the Earth is falling into the sun.  The ark is the last survivors of earth and they have cured the common cold and have no immunity to fight it off.  So it’s up to the Doctor to make the cure and save the humans and The Monoids.  After saving everyone TARDIS lands them 700 years into the future but on The Ark.  This time things are different as The Monoids have enslaved the humans.  The cold and remedy somehow mutates The Monoids and they have a higher intelligence and a very evil persona at that. As they want nothing more than to have the planet to themselves and wipeout the humans forever.

Doctor Who - 10th Doctor and Donna Take On Internet Trolls In New Book

There will be a new Doctor Who book coming out in the UK on May 12th (December in the US). The plot of the story sees The Doctor facing off against Internet Trolls that are being manipulated by aliens so that they can feed off the hatred generated by the humans.  This is an interesting concept for a book as everyone has had encounters with internet trolls in one way or another on Facebook or Twitter.  Below is the synopsis for In the Blood.

All over the world, people are 'ghosting' each other on social media. Dropping their friends, giving vent to their hatred, and everywhere behaving with incredible cruelty. Even Donna has found that her friend Hettie, with her seemingly perfect life and fancy house, has unfriended her. And now, all over the world, internet trolls are dying...

As more and more people give in to this wave of bitterness and aggression, it's clear this is no simple case of modern living. This is unkindness as a plague.

From the streets of London to the web cafes of South Korea and the deepest darkest forests of Rio, can the Doctor and Donna find the cause of this unhappiness before it's too late?

An original novel featuring the Tenth Doctor and Donna, as played by David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-peterloo-massacre-1049

"They say there’ll be thousands pouring into Manchester tomorrow. From all over the county, north and south. It’ll be a piece of history. People will remember this!"

Lost in the smog of the Industrial Revolution, the TARDIS crashes four miles south of Manchester, in the grounds of Hurley Hall – a grand mansion belonging to a local factory owner, a proudly self-made man. But while Hurley dreams of growing richer still on the wealth of secret knowledge locked up in the Doctor’s time and space machine, his servants hope only for a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. His young maid Cathy, for instance, whom Nyssa learns is looking forward to joining the working people’s march to St Peter’s Field, in the heart of the city. There’ll be speeches and banners and music. It’ll be like one big jamboree…

Or so she thinks. For the city’s establishment have called in their own private militia, to control the crowd. One of the darkest days in Manchester’s history is about to unfold – and the Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan are right in the thick of it.
