Into The Time Vortex Podcast - Episode 18 - Doctor Who - The Mark of the Rani

Details and Cover For Doctor Who Magazine Issue 501 Tom Baker Special

Out now in the UK is issue 501 of Doctor Who Magazine.  It is another special issue as it is devoted to the 4th Doctor Tom Baker.  They are billing it as his last interview so this may be one to go out and get.

Following the spectacular 500th issue, Doctor Who Magazine is continuing its celebrations with an issue dedicated entirely to Tom Baker and the Fourth Doctor’s era of Doctor Who.

Tom Baker: The Ultimate Interview is an extravaganza split into several gripping parts, in which Tom talks about life, death and, of course, Doctor Who…

“Life is too short to be dull. Be interesting. Because not very much else matters does it? In large areas of our lives, hardly anything matters at all. I mean, nothing can beat being with loving friends, and a few wines, and a few beers, and a few lies, and a few yarns. And to still be adored after 40-odd years… yeah that’s the life. Maybe I’m the longest-serving actor, in the whole history of actors, who’s actually still, 40-odd years later, adored for the same part and enjoying it in the same way. When I get sent messages from middle-aged men… or from the wives of middle-aged men, who say, ‘Tell Mr Baker he cannot imagine how important he was to my beloved husband when he was a boy’… it moves me deeply to think about it. I was just going to work. I didn’t know, to begin with, how far-reaching this role would be. I was aware of the excitement, and the generosity, and the affection of the fans, but how could I ever have dreamed of all this?”

The interview extravaganza is split into seven gripping parts: The Unbreakable Tom Baker, The Insatiable Tom Baker, The Impeccable Tom Baker (with June Hudson), The Irrepressible Tom Baker, The Unstoppable Tom Baker (with Louise Jameson, John Leeson and Geoffrey Beevers), The Unforgettable Tom Baker and The Irreplaceable Tom Baker.

Also featured in the magazine is Part One of brand-new comic strip The Pestilent Heart, an extended Gallifrey Guardian reporting on the latest news from the set of the new series, and DWM‘s Issue 500 celebrations, competitions and the much-anticipated Cave of 500 Eyes answers.

The collectable souvenir edition, available from 30 June and priced £5.99, comes in a polybag containing four amazing art cards, two classic mini-posters, and a massive multi-Doctor poster.

Doctor Who Magazine 501 is on sale from Thursday 30 June 2016, price £5.99.

Doctor Who - 50 Years of Ben and Polly: The War Machines Review

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the first appearance of Ben and Polly.

Doctor Who:
The War Machines
By Ian Stuart Black

“DOCTOR….WHO…. Is …. REQUIRED”

It’s the swinging Sixties and London is a buzz.  The hottest club in town is The Inferno and that is where The Doctor meets two new friends.   The lovely and swinging girl of the 60’s scenes Polly and her soon to be boyfriend the grumpy sailor Ben soon to be travelers in the TARDIS.  Well soon and unexpected and quite soon as the pair gets entangled with The Doctor and WOTAN.

WOTAN is a super computer who thinks humans are inferior and should be ruled by machines.  Thus WOTAN uses hypnotic influence to get humans to assemble The War Machine to use in taking over the world. What is funny about WOTAN is that he calls The Doctor Doctor Who.  One of his instructions is Doctor Who is required. For such an intelligent computer you would have thought it would know The Doctors name.

Marvel Vs DC - June 2016 - Superman, Captain Marvel, The Killing Joke, Wolverine 3 and Suicide Squad

With the TV season ended and Marvel's movies raking in the money, I figured it was time to look at our imaginary Marvel V DC battle.  Some news, rumors and the build up to Suicide Squad.  Let's get to it.

Superman and Supergirl - in a surprising but welcome move, DC and CW are bringing the character of Superman to the Supergirl series.  After appearing in distant cameos and seeing the Man of Steel's boots the CW, taking over from CBS has decided to bring Superman to the series for at least a couple of episodes.  Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) will play Superman.  I think this is a huge move because in the past the movie and TV characters haven't really been that inclusive.  Often characters being used on TV won't be used in the movies and so on.  Obviously that will change as time goes on but perhaps with Superman making an appearance other characters like Batman and Wonder Woman have a chance.

Doctor Who - Peter Capaldi on the Emmy Ballot for Best Actor

For the first time ever Doctor Who has made it on the ballot for the Emmy's.  What this means is that he is on a ballot that will be voted on to see who garners enough votes to be nominated for an Emmy. He is one of 109 names on the ballot for best actor for his performance in Heaven Sent which is also on the ballot for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series with 247 others.  So fingers crossed that Peter Capaldi gets nominated.

The future is dying. All over the universe, gaps are beginning to appear. From the space lanes terrorised by the rag-tag remnants of the once-mighty Rocket Men, to the empire of the Gorlans, stricken by a terrible civil war. Gaps in space/time, portents of the end of everything.

Only three beings might prevent it. The Doctor, a renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey. The Master, another renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey. And another Master, yet another renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey.

One Doctor. Two Masters. What could possibly go wrong?
