'Miracle Day' over before it began? Starz raises doubts about another season

Would you tell this woman her series is not being renewed?
The reviews are good.

The ratings are good

The future? Not looking so good.

"Torchwood: Miracle Day" is performing well with both audiences and critics for Starz. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the network will order another season of the British sci fi import.

My Thoughts On The DC Comics Reboot

As most of all comic book readers know by now that come September DC Comics will be releasing 52 #1 issues. (Here is a link to a description of the 52 new books ) When I first heard the news I was a little taken aback by it. At first I couldn't believe that DC Comics would go ahead

'Superman Returns' - Deleted opening scene

"Superman Returns" was, most of us can agree, underwhelming. But this deleted opening scene, in which Kal-El returns to Krypton, is awesome. Enjoy.

Technology Time: Star Trek- The Next Generation Blu-Ray

It has been reported that CBS is working on HD prints of Star Trek: The Next Generation

So what? There have been so many other older TV shows released in HD of late, why is this such a big deal? Well, this, to my knowledge, is the first time a TV show is being re-edited and re-mastered in HD for a release. Many shows have been cleaned up and their film prints transferred to HD but in this case, more work has to be done.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Pt 2 Review (Spoilers)

It is finally here. The final Harry Potter movie and the conclusion to one of the best stories to hit cinema screens in a long time. Did it live up to expectations or did the conclusion fizzle like a dud 4th of July firecracker. Well I finally got to see this movie now that I'm back from vacation and I

Meet Lauren Ambrose, the woman behind 'Torchwood's' Jilly Kitzinger - actress, singer and a resident of Western Massachusetts

Dying has been good to the career of actress Lauren Ambrose.

She first came to public attention as teen Claire Fisher on HBO's "Six Feet Under," a drama about a funeral home.

These days, she's known to sci fi fans as Jilly Kitzinger, a public relations expert who is providing much of the intrigue in "Torchwood: Miracle Day." The plot centers on what happens when people stop dying, regardless of disease or injury.

In real life, Ambrose is a trained singer with her own seven-piece combo, Leisure Class, based in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. Read the Associated Press story here, courtesy of MassLive.com

After the jump, watch her singing "Hey Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" at the Iron Horse in Northampton, Mass.

Battleship Trailer

Her is a trailer for the new Liam Neeson movie Battleship that, get this, is based on the boardgame of the same name. It does have robots and alien ships in it so maybe it is not that bad. But then again.

In Time

Here is a SciFi movie that has snuck under the radar. I came across this while looking through a bunch a bunch of SDCC highlights. It looks interesting but looks like it could be hard to follow. Here is a synoposis.

Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich “earn” decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.
In Time will be released October 28 in US and Canada and November 1 in the UK.

Better late than never: a link to "Miracle Day," episode 3

What is Lauren Ambrose up to in "Miracle Day"? Besides no good.
Earlier today, I watched a version of "Dead of Night" on YouTube that was pretty poor in quality. Not only was the sound shaky, but the video was backwards, as if watching it in a mirror. I did not think it was worth linking to, especially since it also was in four parts.

But now - this. Enjoy.

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan Interview at SDCC

Over at G4 website theres a video of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan talking about the second half of series 6. One of the highlights of the video is that tomorrow they will be showing a trailer for the second half of season 6.

Make it so: Patrick Stewart booked for Supermegafest in Framingham

If you haven't done so already, mark Nov. 19 down in your Stardate calendar. Patrick Stewart, the actor behind the legendary characters Capt. Jean Luc Picard of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" movies, will headline Boston Supermegafest (which we all know is really in Framingham). Please note: It's a two-day show, but Stewart is appearing Nov. 19 only.

And we thought we waited in line forever last year for Christopher Lloyd's autograph.

More information here.

Peter Jackson releases official dwarf photo

Call them "little people" and they will cut you off at the knees!

Peter Jackson, director of "The Hobbit," has released a composite photo of the actors. Jackson is not attending Comic-Con in San Diego. As the posted on Facebook:
"New Line and Warner Bros. were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There's so much more of the films still to shoot. I just wanted to get that out there, because I've seen various references to the possibility of something Hobbity at Comic Con. Hate to disappoint anyone. But something tells me we will be there in force next year."

Live long and retire: Leonard Nimoy calling it quits from conventions

Leonard Nimoy has officially announced that he will retire from convention appearances after two more shows in Las Vegas and Chicago.

Or three.

As Mr. Spock might say, "fascinating."

It starts with Creation Entertainment issuing a press release by email that stated, in part:

For us at Creation it is indeed a bittersweet day as Leonard’s on-stage talks have always been a highlight for us and they remain in our memories forever. We’ll never forget his original talks on being Mr. Spock, his on-stage appearances with William Shatner, his live Alien Voices shows with John de Lancie, and later his ceremonial passing of the baton to the amazingly talented young Zachary Quinto. Through it all Leonard has been extremely gracious and caring to both us and his legions of fans. Simply stated it has been a joy to meet someone we grew up with loving on television and film and then finding out he was even nicer than we could have hoped. A growing up memory that was actually exceeded by reality: that never happens but all things are possible with the magic that has been working with Mr. Nimoy.

Christopher Eccleston says he left Dr. Who because of 'politics'

A few days ago, David Tennant left open the possibility of some day returning to the role that made him famous. Don't expect Christopher Eccleston to follow along. The ninth doctor pulled no punches when asked why he played the role for just one season. The question was asked in an acting master class at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and reported on the Bad Wilf website.

"I left Doctor Who because I could not get along with the senior people. I left because of politics. I did not see eye-to-eye with them. I didn’t agree with the way things were being run. I didn’t like the culture that had grown up, around the series. So I left, I felt, over a principle.

The Spider-Man Trailer is here!

But who is the villain? Stay tuned, web-heads!

Early reviews of 'Captain America' mixed, to say the least

The guy who played Johnny Storm appears to be on fire.
Update: As of Wednesday night, the movie was registering a 59% on the Tomato-meter.

Captain America may need that shield to protect himself from the movie critics throwing tomatoes, or so it would seem. RottenTomatoes.com tweeted Wednesday that "'Captain America: The First Avenger' is currently rotten." It's important to note, though, that the rating is based on just five reviews, and those were split by one vote, with three not liking the movie. Their comments:
Marshall Fine, of Hollywood and Fine: Feels less like an exciting comic-book-hero movie than required reading for a course called The Avengers, arriving in theaters next summer.

'Torchwood' scene too hot for BBC, but not Starz

First, British fans of "Torchwood" were outraged that "Miracle Day" would be seen first on United States television. Now they're learning that the version shown in Britain has been altered to remove a graphic sex scene.

The Sun newspaper reported an upcoming episode airing on Starz will feature Capt. Jack Harkness having gay sex with a bartender. The scene will not be shown on BBC, however.

The return of 'Blade Runner' Rick Declan, er, Deckard

MTV News botched the question.

Harrison Ford was vague with his answer.

An interviewer for MTV recently asked Ford, who starred in the classic 1982 film, about the odds of him reprising his role in the wake of the rights to the franchise being sold. Actually, the interviewer inquired about Ford again playing "Rick Declan." Ford quickly corrected the character name to "Rick Deckard" as part of his reply.

"You know, I have no idea at this point. It's very early on and yeah, sure, I know some of the people involved, but it's a long way from fruition."

Caesar goes bananas in new 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' trailer

The setup: John Lithgow, longtime caretaker of Caesar the ape, has developed Alzheimer's disease. One day, he is confronted by an angry neighbor after innocently getting behind the wheel of the wrong car and having a mishap. Caesar is not happy about the way the neighbor treats his friend. "Apes" opens Aug. 5.

The Return of David Tennant as Dr. Who?

OK, that's a blatantly misleading headline. But it is fascinating that the former Time Lord is talking about his willingness to don his trench coat again at some time in the future. As he told Total Film:
‘It's not impossible forever, but no plans at the moment.

'People keep telling me that they’ve read online that I’m coming back – but believe me, if that happens I’ll be the first to tell everyone, I’ll be shouting about it very loudly.’

What The DC Comics Reboot Means

For those of you who are scratching your head about what the hell DC Comics is doing with the regular continuity then I suggest you read this informative interview over at Newsarama with Jim Lee and Dan DiDio. They talk about all things Superman and what is actually going to happen with him and why they decided to do it. Plus they explain more about the rebooted DC Universe and what the fans can expect. I'll have my own article about my thoughts on the proposed reboot once I get back from cool vacation at Disney World. Just wished it didn't rain in the afternoon time. You can read the full article at the Newsarama website at this link below.

Superman and Lois Lane divorced! Ma and Pa Kent dead! Stay tuned for more!

Big changes are coming for the Man of Steel.

As everyone knows by now, DC is relaunching its entire universe with new titles on Sept. 1. That includes The Big Man himself, in Action Comics #1 and Superman #1. Some of the changes, according to Newsarama.com:

 • Clark Kent and Lois Lane, married in the comics since 1996, are no longer a couple.
 • Ma and Pa Kent are dead.
 • A new costume.
 • A villain more powerful than Superman.
 • And maybe the biggest of all:
Additionally, Superman's alien origins will be emphasized in a big way, with the character described as "more Kal-El from the planet Krypton than Clark Kent from Kansas." Superman's deep connection to his Kryptonian heritage also explains his new costume, as seen on the cover of Superman #1. It's "ceremonial armor" from his home planet, with the traditional red trunks abandoned.

A Summer 'Miracle'

Just a word of advice. If you haven't been watching "Torchwood: Miracle Day," you are missing a great story. It blows away anything else that I have watched this summer, including "Thor," "X-Men: First Class" and even "Super 8," which I consider the best movie of the year so far.

And you don't need a subscription to "Starz" to watch it.

Episode 1 is here.

Episode 2 is here.

You can thank me later.

Spiderman Costume

Entertainment Weekly has the photos of the new Spiderman. As someone mentioned to me

"Why does his head look like it should say “SPAULDING” on it? Is the Lizard going to dribble him around NYC??"

It All Ends For Harry Potter Today

Need I have to say more. The final act opens today.

Indiana Jones, Meet 007

In some ways, "Cowboys and Aliens" may be the most anticipated movie of the summer. Harrison Ford. Daniel Craig. Aliens. Oh, and Olivia Wilde. This could be a classic. Or it could be crap. We'll find out on July 29.

Dan Abnett's New Doctor Who Harcover Has Ice Warriors!!!!!

I stumbled upon this at Kasterborus plus Dan Abnett told me about this book when I talked to him at last years New York ComicCon. What he did not mention to me was that the Ice Warriors are in it. How cool is that. This is the second hardcover book that BBC Books is releasing following last years The Coming of the Terraphiles by Michael Moorcock. Here is a synoposis of The Silent Stars Go By.

For centuries the Maintainers have worked. With no help from other worlds, they subsist on the food they can grow and that’s little enough. But their purpose, their whole life is to maintain the machines that will one day make their world as habitable as old Earth.
Life used to be hard. Now as their crops fail, livestock sickens, and the temperature drops, it’s becoming impossible. This year’s Winter Season Feast won’t be the usual celebration. It’s not a time for optimism or hope – and it’s not a time to welcome unexpected guests. The Doctor, Amy and Rory find a society breaking apart under the strain. Tensions are mounting, old rivalries are coming to the fore, people are dying…
And then the Doctor’s old enemies the Ice Warriors make their move. With the cold-hearted threat of invasion, the real battle for survival begins. Or does it? The Doctor begins to suspect that behind everything lies a deadlier, and even more chilling danger…
A thrilling, all-new adventure featuring the Doctor, Amy and Rory, as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the spectacular hit series from BBC Television.

John Carter Trailer

For those who do not know John Carter was one of Edgar Rice Burroughs creation along with his more famous Tarzan. Hopefully Disney puts of Mars back in the title where it belongs. Anyway the trailer looks good.

The Thing Trailer

It was mentioned in a post earlier this week that the Thing prequel movie wasn't dead and now there is a trailer for it.

Video: 'The Thing' Movie Trailer

The End Is Near For Harry Potter

Out Tonight at Midnight So Get The Popcorn Ready

'The Thing' is brought back to life

The Thing lives.

Make that "The Thing" prequel. Stalled for some time for reshoots and editing, the film finally is scheduled to be released in October. Here is the official plot synopsis:

“Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

Johnny Depp: The Night Stalker?

Johnny Depp as Carl Kolchak? It could happen. According to Deadline, among the actor's new projects for Disney is a remake of the cult classic "The Night Stalker."

“Like many… Depp had fond memories of the ABC telepic and series The Night Stalker, and they got Disney’s Rich Ross and Sean Bailey sparked on a pitch for Depp to potentially play tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak.”

The original version of "The Night Stalker" was a 1972 TV movie that starred Darren McGavin as Kolchak. The movie was also spawned the "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" TV series and was cited by creator Chris Carter as the inspiration for "The X Files."

UFO Movie Still a Go!

While I remain very skeptical on this planned big screen remake of Gerry Anderson's UFO, I see this as something positive that the film was not totally dead.
