Fringe Renewed For Fifth And Final Season

Awesome news for fans of Fringe.  Fox announced today that Fringe will come back for a 5th and final season.  The season will consist of 13 episodes which will give the fans the ending it deserves. Ironically enough the last episode of Fringe will be the shows 100th.  Here is a statement from Fox President Kevin Reilly.

"Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television's most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve. The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it's going to be a very exciting final chapter."

Lets give Fox some credit for renewing Fringe.  It is taking a chance on a show that got dismal ratings in the death zone time slot that is Friday Night at 9PM. For Fox to renew the show to give the fans the ending they deserve after making their voice heard is a pretty great accomplishment for fandom.   I am very happy with today's announcement and can't wait to see how this great show will end.

Bond 24 Confirmed For 2014

Good news for James Bond fans.  Sony announced at CinemaCon that Bond 24 will be released in 2014. Fall time would be my guess as all of Daniel Craigs movies have been released around November.  Plus it was also announced that the trailer for Skyfall will be out sometime in May.  Things are looking good for everyones favorite secret agent.

Dr. Who Meets The Beatles - We've Got Proof!

Who is that? Not Pete Townshend!
It's a case of life imitating art. Or maybe art imitating life imitating art. Hard to tell when it comes to Dr. Who and time travel.

The folks at TARDIS Junkyard posted the above photo, which appears to show someone bearing an uncanny resemblance to Matt Smith visiting with the Beatles. Adding to the coolness is what showrunner Steven Moffat tweeted when he saw the picture:

A Dr. Who episode with John, Paul, George, Ringo and The Doctor? "Any Time at All."

Iron Man featured in latest 'Avengers' clip

Would you believe it if I said we have another clip from "The Avengers"? Well - surprise! - we do. This one focuses on Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and features a mix of comedy and action. In the meantime, continue counting the days until May 4.

Jessica Chastain, Andy Lau may join 'Iron Man 3' cast

Does she have a superpower?Does she need one?
I guess this means Iron Man survives "The Avengers."

Not that there was any doubt, of course. But we haven't even seen "The Avengers" yet, and already casting news for "Iron Man 3" is hitting the Internet.

Mike Fleming of Deadline reported that Jessica Chastain is in talks to play "a sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark" (Robert Downey Jr.). Chastain was very busy in 2011, starring in six movies, including the Oscar-nominated "The Tree of Life" and "The Help."

Then Mark "RorMachine" Cassidey cited a Twitch report on ComicBookMovie.com in saying that "House of Flying Dragons" star Andy Lau is in line to join the cast as well. Here's how his character is described:

“A good guy – a Chinese scientist who comes to the aid of his old buddy Tony Stark by providing him with some new tech that will help him battle Ben Kingsley’s villain, but more importantly Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) and his Extremis biotechnology.”

Oh, did we mention Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce already are signed on? Filming begins next month in Wilmington, N.C.
A "good guy," but I don't think I'd cross him.

'GI Joe: Retaliation:' new trailer

What? You say "GI Joe" does not qualify as science fiction? Well, I say any movie that describes Dwayne Johnson as an actor is science fiction.

'The Avengers' as a 1978 TV movie

Sometimes I forget how bad the 1970s were. Then I see things like this and feel like throwing up in my mouth. No, the clip is not real. But it easily could have been. What's really sad is that I recognize some of these scenes.

Supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw signs on for 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Why so mad, Max?
Living in a post-apocalyptic world where food is scarce and roaming gangs of killers are plentiful just got a little more appealing.

Supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw will brighten the scenery of "Mad Max: Fury Road," the long-delayed fourth installment in the series, according to Sydney Confidential. Someone described as a "well-placed film source" told Confidential:
"Obviously it's set in a post-apocalyptic world, and women, especially beautiful women, are scarce, so men have been locking them up in cages. Abbey is one of them. She's perfect."
The film stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron (the future is looking better all the time). Mel Gibson has repeatedly denied rumors of making an appearance.

Careful, Black Widow - Don't Make Him Angry

In the latest clip from "The Avengers," the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) recruits Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). Or is she really recruiting his alter-ego, The Hulk? Find out when the movie opens on May 4.

Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins) Has Passed Away

The original Barnabas Collins from the TV series Dark Shadows has died.  Frid was 87 and died of natural causes.  Dark Shadows was a soap opera that lasted over 1,000 half hour episodes from 1966 to 1971.  Frid has a cameo in the upcoming Dark Shadows movie starring Johnny Depp.

Memories of Elisabeth Sladen

A Tear Sarah Jane

Has it really been a year since the whoniverse lost one of its most beloved actresses who also played one of the most beloved characters Sarah Jane Smith. I do believe so unfortunately.  I can still remember where I was when I heard the very sad and gut wrenching news. April 19, 2011 was a Tuesday last year and I was vacationing (or on holiday for you Brits) at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.  I had just gotten back to the campground after a day filled with fun and to be honest quite a bit of walking.  I headed into the mobile home and decided to unwind by checking my email and maybe peruse the Doctor Who websites to see what news there was on the new season of Doctor Who.  I did not expect the news that I did happen upon.  That Elisabeth Sladen had passed away after a battle with cancer.  I was devastated and crushed beyond all belief that Sarah Jane was no more. I couldn’t believe the evidence before my eyes and went to other sites for more conformation.

Eliza Dushku to star as She-Hulk

Won't the outfit clash with her green skin? Oh.
We're not kidding.

The diminutive (5-feet, 5-inches seems a good guess) Eliza Dushku, veteran of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel" and "Dollhouse," has been cast to play the 6-foot, 7-inch green giantess of Marvel Comics.

OK. To be more precise, Dushku is providing the voice of Jennifer Walters for an upcoming animated series, "Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H." That's according to actor Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes"), who voices Iron Man for the new "Ultimate Spider-Man" animated series and is making an appearance on the new "Hulk."

"The funny thing is if people were to actually visit these animation rooms and see the guys and the girls that are doing it, with the exception of Eliza, who's a stunning beauty, the rest of us, we don't look quite as good as the animation characters they draw for us," Pasdar told IGN. "It's really quite funny. You see these middle-aged guys having fun, playing these younger whippersnappers. It's quite amusing to look around the room."

'Star Wars' toys get their own movie

We can only hope that George Lucas never gets his hands on this one.

This is a trailer for "Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys," a documentary that celebrates the action figures, play sets, space ships, and props we grew up with as kids - and still collect today. Through interviews with collectors, historians, former Kenner and Hasbro employees, and others, the film explores their history, influence, and continued impact on pop culture.

The documentary's creator is trying to raise funds for his film through Kickstarter and is planning to release it on DVD on Aug. 23.

'Prometheus' goes viral with 'Happy Birthday David' video

Creepy.

That's the word that best describes Michael Fassbender's performance in the new viral video for Ridley Scott's eagerly-anticipated "Prometheus." The video introduces Fassbender as the android David.

"Prometheus" orbits into theaters on June 8.

Video from 'The Avengers:' Iron Man vs. Thor

Yes, we have yet another clip from the upcoming "Avengers" movie, which looks more awesome than ever. They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, so I'll just shut up and let you enjoy.

'Ghostbusters 3' called 'a possibility' by Bill Murray (here we go again)

They're back! Maybe. OK, not really. Well, stay tuned.
Who ya gonna call?

Damned if I know.

The latest tidbit of information surrounding the on-again, off-again, rumor-filled "Ghostbusters 3" project comes courtesy of Bill Murray and our friends at ComicBookMovie.com. In Chicago to throw out the first pitch at a Cubs' game, Murray was asked by a local reporter about the long-delayed project.

His reply? "Well, it's a possibility."

As recently as February, would-be co-star Dan Aykroyd said Murray likely would not be involved in a sequel. That came after disputed reports that Murray had shredded an Aykroyd-penned script. Then there was the story that Murray's character, Peter Venkman, would return as a ghost. Or that the movie would feature a "next generation" cast.

Expect much, much more of the same kind of talk until shooting actually starts (if it ever starts). In other words: "Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Depending on your definition of spoilers, you may not want to watch this. The clip seems to reveal the movie's entire plot. You've been warned.

The Three Stooges have nothing to do with Dr. Who or science fiction

A Dr. Who-Three Stooges crossover? Well, if they can get Kate Upton ...
I'm not a big "Three Stooges" fan, but I saw the movie last night and cannot remember laughing so much at the theater in a long time (well, except for the bad acting of some action movie stars).

Dr. Who, Weeping Angels take Manhattan by storm

They're not in Cardiff any more.
The cast of "Dr. Who" took in many of the sights while filming in New York City this week. The Doctor, Amy and Rory visited Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Tudor City Plaza and Times Square. The episode will mark the return of the Weeping Angels.

"It's just that it's a different backdrop for the story," showrunner Steven Moffat told BBC America. "Something about Weeping Angels in New York seems to make sense to me. It's not to appeal to an American audience, particularly - they don't come to Doctor Who to see themselves, they come to Doctor Who to see us.

"We're not going to go there and film in the backstreets like we'd find in Cardiff, that would be a mistake!"

No word on whether anyone tried to sell Moffat the bridge.

You can find more pictures here and here.

The Cabin in the Woods (Spoilers)

The Cabin in the Woods

Review #2 (Spoilers)

By Ken Parker

You really should not read this review unless you have already seen the film or have decided that you will never ever see this stupid horror film that looks like every other horror film. I will try to not ruin the story that much in this review.

A group of college age kids go to a cabin out in the woods. They went there to have some fun, have sex, get high and so on but the cabin has something else planned for them. In the flavor of Evil Dead, something is unleashed that threatens them all.

'Avengers' - 20 minutes of behind-the-scenes-footage

We spoke too soon. It was just yesterday that we wondered if the latest clip from "The Avengers" meant we had seen the entire film. We were kidding, of course. And little did we know what was coming next. Here are four new videos of footage from the making of the movie - 20 minutes in all.

You might see some spoilers, so be careful!

Grumblings From The Longbox # 2

This Issue Avengers VS X-Men and The Winter Soldier

The much heralded AVX has arrived.  That’s Avengers Verse X-Men for those not in the know.  So far we had the freebie number zero and issue number one.  Well It wasn’t all what I suspected to be but considering who one of the writers are I thought it might be subpar.   With that said I did find the overall story to be in the least interesting.

Monolith Found on Mars

In addition to the ones found on the Moon and of course the huge one orbiting Jupiter, another monolith has been spotted on Mars.  NASA has released a photo of the Monolith.

Wrath of the Titans Movie Review

Wrath of the Titans the sequel to the remake of Clash of the Titans has arrived and judging from the trailers to have a very promising look to it. So like any movie fan who enjoys watching movies with lots of action and sword play I was entranced by the action movie siren and like a lemming made the pilgrimage to the local cinema.

River Takes Manhattan!!! River Song In Series 7 Return

Rumor has it that Alex Kingston will be joining the Doctor Who crew in New York City.  A casting call has gone out in the USA for an Alex Kingston look alike who knows how to drive.  This is not all to surprising as I was expecting her back at some point before Amy and Rory (her parents) left the TARDIS.

Dalek Relaxation Tape

Scarlett Johansson kicks some a**

Don't make Scarlett Johansson angry. You wouldn't like her when she's angry.

Well, at least if you're a villain.

The latest clip from "The Avengers" shows Johansson, who portrays Natascha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) tied up and powerless. But unlike some of her teammates, she doesn't need gamma ray-induced super strength, a hammer or a suit of armor to get out of trouble.

Video From ICON 31 Of Paul McGann Reading 1st Doctor Speech From The Dalek Invasion Of Earth

I found this video making the rounds on the web that some fan took at last weekends ICON 31. The video consists of Paul McGann reading that famous speech from the closing moments of episode 6 of the William Hartnell classic "The Dalek Invasion of Earth."  Wish I was there on Sunday when this panel happened.

ICON 31 – One Of The Best Ever

It’s another rainy, cold March day which means it must be ICON time.   Well that it is and this past March 31, 2012 The Knights (well four of us) partook in that geek filled love pilgrimage to the SUNY campus for the annual sci-fi and anime convention.   This has always been one of my favorite conventions and I can count on one hand how many that we have missed which is not many at all.  I have been taking that 3 hour plus drive since 1995 when I first enjoyed ICON for the first time.  So how did this year’s version which is the 31st edition measure up.  Well it was by far one of the best ICONS that I have attended.

Best. I-CON. Ever.

I wasn't the only one who enjoyed I-CON.
OK, so the headline is a little misleading because this past weekend's I-CON 31 at Stony Brook University on Long Island also was my first I-CON. Still, it was highly enjoyable - a near-perfect experience - and my friends, veterans of many I-CONs, said it ranked among their favorites. Who am I to argue?

What made the event special for me was the outstanding interaction with the guests. Yes, I understand that they are professional actors and could very well be "putting on a show" for the fans by pretending to be interested in their questions and engaging in conversation. That being said, we've all met celebrities - even at events where we were paying our hard-earned money to be in their presence - who seemed like they would like to be almost anywhere else. If that was the case at I-CON, each of the people who I met deserves an Academy Award.

In no particular order:

General Martok: It was a good day to mingle.
Again, I lie. Even with Big Names highlighting the program, as soon as I reviewed the guests, I knew who I wanted to meet first and most - J.G. Hertzler, best known in the Trek Universe for his two dozen appearances as Klingon General Martok from "Deep Space Nine." Why? I'm not even sure. Some small part of my brain - admittedly, my brain has only small parts - immediately was drawn to the idea that General Martok would be appearing at the convention. He did not disappoint. We had a delightful conversation.

Classic Daleks To Return In Series 7

Steven Moffat has been teasing the fans on Twitter lately and this new one from last week is actually pretty cool.  It appears that all the classic Daleks will be returning.  Don't know what capacity they will be used in but the picture that has been teased by the BBC and the Moff looks pretty cool.

My Top 25 Sci-Fi Movies of All Time - #1

My Top 25 Sci-Fi Movies of All Time - #1

By Ken Parker

I want to thank everyone who has followed my top 25 Sci-Fi Movie list. It was fun putting together the list and then trying to come up with things to write about. Hopefully you were half way entertained or informed. Feel free to comment on your own top lists and provide feedback on mine.

The choice for the top position on my list was not an easy one to decide. It could have easily been one of 3 or 4 different movies. I chose the one that has safely been on my list for many years and is the first one I think of when someone says Sci-Fi movie. It is, in my opinion, the definitive Sci-Fi movie that all other movies are compared to. For a work of art, it has so many incredible things going for it. Not only is the story so vast and thought provoking, but the direction and cinematography is stunning. The effects are the best in any Sci-fi movie before and since.

The Knights Exclusive Interview With Paul McGann From ICON 31

On Friday March 30, 2012 I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Paul McGann.  So off we went on the 3 1/2 hour drive to Ronkonkomo, New York. Needless to say that I was a tad bit nervous.  But nerves turned to excitement as the man himself entered the meeting room that was reserved for press. Paul McGann was very accommodating and happy to see us. I was now truly excited as  I was about to partake in a one on one with one of the actors that played my favorite television character of all time The Doctor.  Well it was a wonderful experience and here is the interview in which Paul McGann talks candidly about Doctor Who, his time with Big Finish and what projects he has coming up.

At this time I would like to thank Ken Deep The ICON Media Director for giving us this opportunity to interview Paul McGann and to Vernon Hill for driving me down to Long Island and for also taking all those great pictures.

Jason Statham Cast As The Master (AF)

In what appears to be quite a change from the past rumors of who would be cast as the Master it would appear that Steven Moffat has decided on casting action hero Jason Statham as the next guy to be the Master. Says Moffat

"I've been a fan of Jason's movies for years and really wanted to get him in Dr Who.  I thought that the Master should be hard edge and be able to literally kick the Doctors butt and we have that with Jason."

Jason Statham is said to be flying high about being casted as the Master.

"It's a dream come true to be in such a great show like Doctor Who and being The Master I'll be able to kick the Doctor's ass all over the place and doing it during the 50th will be truly special."

This is great news and we at the Knights blog just want to say
