R.U.R. : Genesis

Neat little short based on the Karel Capek play R.U.R. (1919).  The film makers are hoping to make it in the a feature length film. I like the 60's style and music.

Almost Human is Almost Cancelled. Actually..... it is cancelled.

The Fox show enjoyed a half season in the Monday 'death time slot' but not so good ratings ended that run.  The show has actually done okay in the ratings but a high budget and Fox looking at some promising pilots next season certainly was part of the decision making.  The show was a mix of Blade Runner and Minority Report and had some glimmers of excellent story telling.  I liked the futuristic setting as it was used to create a focus on high tech crimes.

Captain America vs. Batman v.s Superman

Disney is looking to move Captain America 3 away from the May 6, 2016 date as that is when Batman vs. Superman is slated for release. Despite Captain America: The Winter Soldier making loads of money, the studio would probably feel better staying away from that movie.  The head to head battle would certainly be interesting as Cap has gained a huge momentum which may only increase after the next Avengers film scheduled for 2015.

With some concern on what direction DC is going with their franchise, one could see some inherent weaknesses with Batman vs. Superman.  I guess there is no reason to pit the two franchises up against one another. Both will do will and I can't imagine one defeating the other and ruining the other's franchise.

Justice League Movie News

I have been hesitant on reporting any news about any superhero movie franchise other than The Avengers bunch because so much of it seems rumor but this appears to be real news.

Zach Snyder will be directing the Justice League movie which will star Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman).  DC plans on filming the movie back to back with Batman vs. Superman and we should see the movie possibly in 2017.

A lot rides on how Batman vs. Superman in my opinion.  They are banking on a controversial choice of Batman, following along the popular Christian Bale.  They are also following up from a Man of Steel movie that had its own set of problems and not the universal love that DC had hoped.  Snyder is not a popular choice right now for some fans and one wonders how he will screw up Justice League.  The movie will be heavily compared to The Avengers and The Avengers 2.

Doctor Who - Special Big Finish Story Featuring The Doctor and His Friends

Big Finish is releasing a special edition release story that features The Doctors friends from around space and time and the 6th Doctor himself.  The story will be linked by the mysterious Mr. Reeves who is played by Jamie Glover who was in An Adventure In Space and Time as William Russell.  This special 15th anniversary celebration will be out in October and you can pre order it at the Big Finish website.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

This is the new title of the last Hobbit film due in December 2014.  The film was originally titled "There and Back Again" which seems to fit in more with everything but Peter Jackson has decided to make the title more exciting perhaps.

Doctor Who - Check Out Peter Capaldi In A Short About Surrealism In Art

I came across this interesting video on Kasterborous about surrealism in art.  This video is produced by Le Méridien and Tate to help bring contemporary art to a broader audience.  There is eight videos in the series and for number seven they have the Twelfth Doctor himself Peter Capaldi.  What I find of interest is that dress sense is sort of similar to the Doctor.  Mainly the style of vest and the white shirt a tad different but the style is there even with the shorter jacket.  So if you want to know more about art follow the link below and enjoy the video.

Top 10 things NOT to do while waiting for the missing Doctor Who episodes to return

By Ken Parker

philip morris @archives1963
10 - Don’t lose faith – I know that over the past year I have ridden the roller coaster ride of this rumor with some dark times where I almost gave up on the idea.  Most people on the forums seem to have gotten sick of waiting and talking about it as I have but there has to be something to Morris’s tweets, Robert’s comments about "Marco Polo" and the ever evolving rumor reports.  Just because one part of the rumor (an Easter announcement for example) didn’t happen doesn’t mean the whole thing is bogus. Until Morris comes out and says that his search yielded no more finds other than what was released in October of 2013, there is hope for more.

Doctor Who - The Fate of Peter Capaldi's The Musketeers Character

Now that Peter Capaldi has a new job as the 12th Doctor on Doctor Who he no longer has time to play the villainous Cardinal Richelieu.  So the Cardinal will be killed off screen as reported by the Radio Times. Actor Tom Burke who plays Athos confirmed this in a quote to the Radio Times.

"Come the next series, the Cardinal will be dead. He'll just be gone.  It's a great example of economic storytelling. Their new nemesis will be Rochefort, who's played by Marc Warren."

Doctor Who Hugo Awards Nominations

The Hugo Awards nominations are out and well Doctor Who picked up quite a few. In fact they dominated an entire category.  That category is Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form Category.
Here is a list of the Doctor Who nominations and the other two nominations in that category.

Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form (760 nominating ballots)
  • An Adventure in Space and Time, written by Mark Gatiss, directed by Terry McDonough (BBC Television)
  • Doctor Who: “The Day of the Doctor”, written by Steven Moffat, directed by Nick Hurran (BBC Television)
  • Doctor Who: “The Name of the Doctor”, written by Steven Moffat, directed by Saul Metzstein (BBC Televison)
  • The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, written & directed by Peter Davison (BBC Television)
  • Game of Thrones: “The Rains of Castamere”, written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, directed by David Nutter (HBO Entertainment in association with Bighead, Littlehead; Television 360; Startling Television and Generator Productions)
  • Orphan Black: “Variations under Domestication” written by Will Pascoe, directed by John Fawcett (Temple Street Productions; Space/BBC America)
Note: Category has six nominees due to a tie for the final position.

Now I might be a bit biased but I would really love it if The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot won mainly because Peter Davison is my favorite Doctor and well it was one of the best things shown on the 23rd of November for the 50th.

Other notable Doctor Who nominations in literature are:

“The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who”, written by Paul Cornell, illustrated by Jimmy Broxton (Doctor Who Special 2013, IDW)

Queers Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the LGBTQ Fans Who Love It, Edited by Sigrid Ellis & Michael Damian Thomas (Mad Norwegian Press)

The Hugo winners will be announced at  Loncon 3, London August 17, 2014.

Here is a link for all the nominations.

Uh.. okay - not really liking the animation.  The person animation may be a step better than Star Wars Clone Wars but the ship animation looks cartoony.

Big Finish Takes on Gerry Anderson's Terrahawks

Big Finish, which creates audio adventures for Doctor Who, Blake's 7 and so many more shows, will be doing 8 stories based on the 1983 Gerry Anderson TV series, Terrahawks.  Gerry's son, Jamie Anderson, is spearheading the project stating that the series ran for 39 episodes and was very close to go on but was canceled suddenly.  Some of those scripts written but never shot will now be adapted for audio by Big Finish.  Some of the original voice cast will return for this audio series that is planned for release in 2015.

Terrahawks was about a secret group called the Terrahawks, who defended the earth from an evil android called Zelda.  The series was made in Supermacromation which was using puppets controlled from below as opposed to Supermarionation with puppets and wires from above as with Thunderbirds.

Pre-order is available here - http://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/terrahawks-to-return-on-audio

Doctor Who - Matt Smith On What He Thought Was His Best Series

Matt Smith at a recent Wizard World Comic Con was asked what his best and favorite series was.  I'm not surprised by the answer and in fact I have to agree with him as the series he picked was my favorite of his also.  Here is his answer and what he thought about it all.

"For me, the best storytelling was in series five.  It had great adventure and great clarity, and I loved the whole idea about the Pandorica and the Big Bang. It was the one I connected with most. Looking back, I think some of my best work was in my first series, because I was actually taking real risks and that was a real moment"
Then he was asked what his best speech was during his tenure.  "I think it has to be when I was talking to the spaceships in The Pandorica Opens"
Then he commented on the big reveal in Series 6 about River being Rory and Amy's daughter. "I think in terms of revelations, River being Amy's daughter was a bit 'what the hell!'"

Captain America – The Winter Soldier and Agents of SHIELD Overview

Over the weekend I watched around 3 hours of the some of the best Marvel Superhero Avengers product I have ever see.  Captain America - The Winter Soldier was a spectacular movie that had a near perfect plot and action mixture.  It was a perfect continuation of the Captain America character and storyline from the original Captain America - The First Avenger and The Avengers movie.  The character, played by Chris Evans sticks to his guns in an ever build up of conflict from the problems with SHIELD to still having to exist into today's society to leaving behind his life of the past to dealing with threats from that same past.  This movie sees a slow reveal and decay of an existing society that Steve Rogers is already questioning and his concerns suddenly become so much more.

by Ken Parker

Philip Morris, Missing Episode Hunter examines more film cans while his nemesis, Ian Levine, waits patiently

The Omnirumor saga is getting weirder, uglier, more frustrating and exciting all at once.  A statement by the TIEA Executive Director seems promising -

T.I.E.A understands the passion felt by Doctor Who fans and that looking for missing episodes of Doctor who plus many other shows is an important but tiny part of the work that T.I.E.A does. The main aim of this organisation is to assist those archives whose own cultural heritage is under threat. If any programmes do still exist T.I.E.A will endeavor to recover them safely as with web of fear and enemy of the world.T.I.E.A are not sponsored by any organisation we are a completely independent body we work alongside many organisations such as the B.F.I .

However as much as people want specific programmes found wishing them into existence or starting rumors will not magically return them .Individuals trying to extract information which does not exist or is commercially confidential will be deleted unread any legitimate inquires for T.I.E.A LTD services are welcome.
