Honest Trailers Finally Tackle Batman & Robin

Machina by Fede Alvarez

The recent Evil Dead remake was directed by Fede Alvarez and now he is working on a sci-fi project called Machina.  Alvarez directed the following short and while the effects are primitive due to a low budget, it is pretty cool.  I like the music (John Murphy) and the Battleship Potemkin homage....

Normally I don't like certain mash-ups like this but this trailer, which combines many (near 100) different action and Sci-Fi movies into an exciting piece.

Cassie is back and she has got herself a new partner so to speak in the name of Ashley J. Williams. This crossover takes place 5 months after the final issue of Hack/Slash. Cassie is still dealing with the death of Vlad and is trying to live a normal life with Margaret and baby Sandra, but in Cassie's world the dead don't stay dead. When Ash seeks out Cassie's help in finding the missing pages of the Necronomicon you know personalities are going to clash. I had high exceptions for this comic and it did not disappoint. Tim Seeley has got Ash down and Cassie is back as her usual self. Daniel Leister's art for Hack Slash has always been spot on and with the addition of Ash it just makes it all the more fun. - Spaced (www.twitter.com/Spaced4SimonPeg)

'Arrow' adding The Flash to cast, spinoff series possible

Let's hope they get along a little better than this.
Faster than a speeding arrow?

You have to think so. The CW announced Tuesday that The Flash will join the cast of "Arrow" as a recurring character. And, if all goes well, he could race off into his own series.

“We do want to expand upon the DC Universe," network President Mark Pedowitz told Tuesday's annual Television Critics Association press tour, according to The Associated Press. "We think that there are rich characters we can use, and we felt like this was a very organic way to get there.”

“Arrow” debuted in the 2012-2013 season as The CW’s most popular new show. Starring Stephen Arnell as Oliver Queen, the show returns for a second season in October.

There was no word on who might don the red-and-yellow tights to play Barry Allen/The Flash.

Supernatural Spin-off In The Works

Andrew Dabb, current producer for Supernatural, is working on a spin-off of CW's Supernatural TV series. The pilot takes place in Chicago and it will examine the Hunters and Monsters of that city.  No word on if any characters (Charlie Bradbury perhaps??) from the series will star.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Sylvester McCoy The 7th Doctor

Dark, Manipulative, wise and sad underneath it all are words that you would use to describe the Seventh Doctor.  The one Doctor that had an air of mystery surrounding him as they pealed back the lairs like an onions outer skin to give us, the fans, a new take on our favorite Time Lord and Sylvester McCoy pulled it off magnificently.   But it did not start off like that at all. Oh no the Seventh Doctor did not become that Doctor right away as at first he was, well, something else entirely that just did not work.

BBC Home Entertainment and BBC America Shop has released details for the North America release of Series 7 Boxsets for Doctor Who.  The DVD and Blu Ray will be out September 24th and will include the 2011 Christmas Special The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe in case anyone was wondering if they had to buy that one separate.  The press release with all the details is below.

New York – July 29, 2013 – BBC Home Entertainment releases all thirteen blockbuster episodes from the seventh series of the iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who on Blu-ray and DVD on September 24, 2013. In addition, the set collects the 2011 and 2012 Christmas Specials, and exciting bonus features including behind-the-scenes featurettes, “Doctor Who at Comic Con”, the BBC AMERICA specials “The Companions” and “Doctor Who in the US,” and more. These latest adventures test the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and prove that even a madman with a box needs help sometimes.

Say farewell to the Ponds all over again. Meet the enigmatic Clara for the first time - and the second, and the third. Face enemies new and old, follow the Doctor to the one place he should never go, and learn the secret to a really great soufflé. With a cliffhanger ending that will leave fans breathless, this set arrives just in time to catch up before the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special on November 23, and the Doctor’s regeneration in this year’s Christmas Special.

In The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe, the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special, the Doctor proves that sometimes wishes really do come true when his mysterious gift leads Madge Arwell and her two children to a magical wintry wonderland. Then, in the first part of series seven, the Ponds (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) make their final voyages with the Doctor. They save a spaceship full of dinosaurs, don Stetsons in the Wild West and are even kidnapped by the Doctor's oldest foe. But when they arrive in Manhattan the Weeping Angels are waiting for them - and the Doctor has to say goodbye to his companions forever.

The 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen, brings the Doctor a new friend (Jenna-Louise Coleman) in Victorian London - but has he already met her before? And will she be able to pull him from his mourning in time to save London from the chilling menace that threatens it? The final eight episodes of series seven see the Doctor and his new companion battle monsters on distant alien planets, become trapped in a Russian submarine with a deadly passenger, chase terrifying ghosts, and come face-to-face with an army of upgraded Cybermen. When his friends are kidnapped, the Doctor and Clara are forced to visit the fields of Trenzalore, where the question that must never be answered is finally asked… and the Doctor uncovers the secret of the Impossible Girl.

The incredible list of guest stars includes John Hurt (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), Warwick Davis (Willow, the Harry Potter films) Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), David Warner (Titanic, TRON), Dougray Scott (Hemlock Grove, Ever After: A Cinderella Story), Ben Browder (Farscape), David Bradley (Game of Thrones) Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife, The Woman in Black), the mother-daughter duo of Dame Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones) and Rachael Stirling (Women in Love, Snow White and the Huntsman), and the voice of Sir Ian McKellan (The Lord of The Rings films). The episodes are written by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, as well as Neil Gaiman, Mark Gatiss, Neil Cross, Chris Chibnall, Toby Whithouse and Stephen Thompson.

Sherlock's New Adversary Revealed For Series 3

Sherlock's new adversary was announced on producer Sue Vertue's Twitter account and it is Lars Mikkelsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen who I would guess is a play off the Master Blackmailer himself Charles Augustus Milverton who appeared in the classic Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton".  This will be pretty interesting as they are using another one off character as the main protagonist for Series 3 or he could be just in one story.  I guess we will find out soon enough.

San Diego Comic Con
By: The Nerdy Girlie aka Megan Gotch

Nerdsville USA converged on San Diego, California this past week.  San Diego Comic Con was bigger than ever.  Nerds packed the exhibition hall, panel rooms, and the Gaslamp District over the course of the con.

Everything Comic Con touches sells out at an alarming rate. This year badges, hotels and even parking passes went faster than ever have before.  The actual Con was no different – busier than ever.

Preview night was the busiest I have seen the in my five years in attendance.  You could barely move in the exhibition hall.  It was difficult to find where a line ended or began.  My sole purpose that night was to purchase the exclusive BBCA Doctor Who and Sherlock tees.  I made it to the booth rather quickly, but the line had been capped, I was told to come back in fifteen to twenty minutes.  Upon my return, the line was still capped and there was even a pre-line that was forming.  After spending most of my night in this pre-line, I was still unable to purchase my items, and ended up leaving Preview Night empty handed.

On Preview night I also attended my very first Comic Con party ever!  My friends over at the SDCC Unofficial Blog threw a party at Henry's Pub.  When I arrived the place was packed and there was even a line to get in!  It was so great to finally meet the faces behind all Twitter avatars!  I had an amazing time, chatted with some great nerds, and left with some awesome swag.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary To Be Broadcast Around The World Simultaneously

The Radio Times and The Doctor Who Official Tumblr have announced that the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary will be aired at the same time all around the world to over 200 countries.  This means that the UK will see it at 7PM, New York City at 2PM, Los Angeles at 11AM and Sydney Australia at 6AM Sunday the 24th.   This is pretty cool news as all the Whovians can see it at the same time and avoid spoilers being leaked before they see it at the proper time of their area.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: The Top Five Sylvester McCoy Stories

Unfortunately just like with Colin Baker Sylvester McCoy did not have a huge backload of stories.  Yes he was The Doctor for three season but in that time he had only 12 stories one more than Colin Baker.  So to be fair this list will be a Top 5 as let’s face it a top ten list would not make much sense at all.  So here we have what I think is the best of Doctor Seven and in fact this list was not that hard to come up with.

Avengers - Age of Ultron - Joss Whedon Clarifies Some Things

From http://movies.yahoo.com/news/joss-whedon-spills-avengers-age-ultron-clues-own-181006331.html

Joss Whedon has stated that the next Avengers movie, Age of Ultron, will NOT be the recent comic story by Marvel.  A new origin story for Ultron is in the works with Tony Stark being the key person involved in the creation of Ultron.  The original story has Henry Pym (Ant-Man) as the killer robot's creator.

Whedon also states that

"Getting the team toether was so rousing, Whedon says. "Keeping the team together was a completely different drama."

Its Official!! Superman/Batman Movie Is Happening #SDCC 2013

Today's big rumor has been confirmed as we will have a Superman/Batman movie in 2015. At the end of the Warner Bros/Legendary panel Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and Superman himself Henry Cavill came on stage and made the announcement as the above image was presented on screen.

Here is the official Tweet with the news.

And the official Press Release

BURBANK, Calif.--()--On the heels of the worldwide success of “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Batman and Superman—for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

“Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.”

The current hit, “Man of Steel,” has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.

Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.

Silverman stated, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.” Kroll added, “We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of ‘Man of Steel’ is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us.”

Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment, noted, “Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”

Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con today, breaking the news to audiences there, later said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

Thomas offered, “Whilst our ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack’s fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction. His vision for Superman opened the door to a whole new universe and we can’t wait to see what Zack does with these characters.”

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

Also rumored to be announced today is the plans for a Flash movie for 2016 and then do a Justice League film in 2017.  This is pretty exciting news as you would think that DC would like to capitalize on all The Avengers goodness that Marvel is experiencing.   More news on this is expected later today.

Warner Bros Plans To Make Superman/Batman Movie #SDCC

Several sites are reporting that DC and Warner Brothers will be making an announcement that they will be making a Superman/Batman movie that will come out in 2015.  This will be filmed after the sequel to Man of Steel and will be starring Henry Cavil as Superman.  No word yet on who would play Batman but it is a good bet that Christan Bale will not be Batman.  The movie will be made by Zach Snyder and David Goyer who were responsible for the Superman and Batman films recently.

Cobie Smulders Maria Hill Joins Agents of Shield #SDCC

Marvel announced today at San Diego Comic Con that Cobie Smulders will be reprising her role as Maria Hill for Agents of Shield.  She will be appearing in the first episode with other appearances scattered through out the season.

Here's what Joss Whedon had to say:
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD. She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”

Emmy Nominations 2013 The Year of the Epic Snub of Tatiana Maslany

Sorry - if you have come to this link to read of the 2013 nominations for the Emmys then you are out of luck.
What?  No Way......
This site (or at least this author) no longer views the television Emmy Awards as a serious and accurate showcase of on screen talent for television.  Its most recent nominations are an abomination of the highest degree and I will no longer acknowledge them until they fix this grievous error in the Best Actress nomination category.  Tatiana Maslany may be an underdog to WIN an Emmy but the fact that she was not even nominated is beyond belief.  Whatever process this sham of an organization has to nominate has to be totally revamped.  This snub is epic.  I feel bad for Tatiana but here are other awards out there that have to be more respectable than the Emmys.

Don't get on Alison's bad side.

#SDCC Dark Horse Comics Is The New Home For Victor Santo's Polar

#SDCC: VICTOR SANTOS’S POLAR COMES FROM THE COLD TO DARK HORSE!

San Diego, CA, JULY 17—As announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Dark Horse Comics is proud to bring Polar, the lauded silent webcomic by Victor Santos (Mice Templar, Filthy Rich), to print—available for the first time ever with dialogue!

A guns-blazing espionage action-adventure in the grand tradition of Jim Steranko and Frank Miller, this graphic novel is a brutal, fast-tempo story of revenge that Newsarama says is “as ice-cold as its name.” Though Polar was originally released as a silent webcomic, Santos has crafted a script as hard boiled and intriguing as his art for this hardcover collection.

Polar began as a tribute to the greatness of graphic storytelling. Watching it improve and evolve into the version readers will see in the book printed by one of my favorite publishers, I can only say: Mission accomplished, old soldier,” said creator Victor Santos.

Ripped out of retirement by an assassination attempt, the world’s most deadly spy—the former agent known as Black Kaiser—is a wanted man that’s wanted . . . dead! On a collision course with his former employer, the Damocles Agency, Black Kaiser goes head to head with a stab-happy, psychotic torture expert and a seductive but deadly redhead. His mission only ends if he dies or kills everyone out to get him, and he’s not in the habit of dying.

Additional praise for Victor Santos’s Polar

“A beautiful, if bloody, webcomic . . . an engaging experiment in color, style, and wordless storytelling.”—CBR’s Robot 6

Polar: Came from the Cold is on sale December 11 in stores everywhere.
