Sleepy Hollow - Mid Season TV Report

by Ken Parker

Sleepy Hollow (Fox) - Mondays -

Initial Thoughts – I really didn't want to watch yet another show about the supernatural but since it had its debut a couple weeks earlier than most shows this fall, I gave it a chance. The show is quickly developing a mythology that is both interesting and entertaining. The link to the historical times of the Revolutionary war is the most appealing aspect of its mythology in my mind.

The Cast – Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills and Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane make a pretty good pair. They are both capable actors and are supported well with other cast members. The 'man out of time' angle is nothing original and only adds some humor from time to time.

The Plot – The idea of fighting a war against the forces of evil is also unoriginal. We see ghosts, the undead and other creatures, some of which are well conceived and others not so much. The rules surrounding the mythology haven't quite gelled yet within the series but there is enough going on here to keep viewers interest.

Highlights - It is good to see John Noble in a couple of episodes, hopefully he is in more.  The missing head jokes are funny, at least initially. The Sandman creature was impressive.

What's Next? - The series is only 13 episodes long and will be wrapping up on January 20, 2014 with a 2 hour finale. It has already been renewed for a second season. The ratings have been good for Fox.

Bottom Line – I have no reason not to watch this show. It is not my favorite but it is entertaining enough.
