Red Dwarf X - Fathers and Suns A review by @cheezypeas
Am I the only one on this planet who misses Holly like crazy?
May I introduce the new Red Dwarf Computer; Pree:
Holly come back, all is forgiven!
Lister has toothache but instead of getting it fixed he does the sensible thing and gets drunk. As he is his own father he films himself drunk so his sober 'son' can make something of himself. As he knows sober 'son' Lister will rebel his 'father' resigns himself from the Space Corps overnight, resulting in him being ejected out into space. With me so far?
The gang really aren't getting on with the new ships computer, she's almost like a gothic version of Queeg. She's smart, sassy....and so logically insane she decides to plot a course for Red Dwarf to drive into the nearest sun and prevents the crew from getting near her controls to shut her down. Luckily she didn't bank on Lister (who's Jet pack gets him back on board) registering his 'son' as an extra crew member with the medical computer so as he was the only registered crew member on board and as he is his son (Yep, still confused?) he has permission to shut her down and save the day!
I think overall it was a good idea for the writers to play around again with the ships computer. Although Pree was easy on the eye I felt she really didn't get much screen time compared to Queeg to really develop her character more. I would love however, to see Holly return back to his/her rightful place.
I liked the episode bringing back the slightly confusing concept of Lister being his own father, which is a nice bit of continuity from the seventh series episode Ouroboros. Looking into the characters backgrounds in more depth is something Doug Naylor was very keen to introduce into this series, and by injecting a good quantity of the now famous Red Dwarf humour to the mix helps make any tragic past somewhat hilarious.
The team are certainly getting back into the swing of things with their on screen banter getting stronger with each scene. I liked the Music when they were in danger as it was so similar to a Doctor Who score, I couldn't help but smile as they were subtly making fun of it! So overall another good episode. Next week; Romans and Jesus!

NYCC 2012 Thursday
NYCC on Thursday was a little laid back. The show floor was only open to 4 day, VIP, Pro's and press. I liked the smaller crowed atmosphere of the Thursday hours which were shorter since the show opened at 3PM and closed up around 10PM. Most of the talent was there except for a majority of the celebrities so Thursday was a good day to talk to the comic book industry talent and to get your books signed with out the hassle of the big crowds which will be coming Friday when the show is open to all. This year crowds will be interesting as there isn't any tickets to be had as NYCC is completely sold out. So enjoy some of the pictures I took yesterday while the convention was not to crowded.

Scott Snyder and Jim Lee Team Up On Superman Project
In what is the coolest news to come out of NYCC yesterday, and told to me in the autograph line by Scott Snyder himself, was the announcement by DC Comics of a Superman project by Scott Snyder and Jim Leee which will be coming out next year. Not much was revealed but here are a few quotes from the Superman panel.
"I've loved Superman since I was a kid, and to be working on him now, with the great Jim Lee, is simply too thrilling for words. It's a dream come true for me on every front,” Snyder said. “I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say it's the Superman story I'd write if I only ever got one chance to write the character. It's an exploration of everything I love and am fascinated by about him. Like Court of Owls for Batman, it's a character piece for Clark - it's going to challenge him to his core. And it's definitely epic in scope, with huge action and drama - the biggest and most earth shaking action I've ever done. Can't wait to see what you all think of it. Couldn't be more grateful or excited to get the chance to make this one!"
“As a huge fan of Scott's writing, I'm looking forward to drawing Superman as much as I am reading Scott’s story as it unfolds,” Lee said. “Scott's crafted a truly epic yet personal story which will demonstrate without a doubt why Superman remains the most iconic hero of the modern age. 2013 is gonna absolutely rock!”

Ethan Van Sciver Takes Over Art Duties For Batman:The Dark Knight
Ethan Van Sciver will be taking over artist duties for Batman: The Dark Knight taking over for David Finch with January's issue 16. David Finch will be leaving to do a new Justice League of America book.
New Creative Team For Action Comics Announced
Beginning next Spring Action Comics will have a new creative team. Taking over for Grant Morrison will writer Andy Diggle and artist Tony Daniel. The two will take over with Action Comics number 18 which comes out in March. Here are a few quotes from the new creative team.
“Even in an industry dominated by superheroes, Superman is THE superhero – the original and best - and I’m flattered, daunted and inspired in equal measure at being given the opportunity to build on such an incredible and historic legacy. The word ‘iconic’ is bandied around a lot in comics, but Superman defines the term. I’m excited to be working with Tony Daniel, whose artistic and storytelling skills will be bringing the world(s) of Superman to stunning visual life. Together we’ll be carving out spectacular new adventures that respect the past while redefining the future of the Man of Steel.”
“Superman is a character I've wanted to work on for quite a while now and I'm now very fortunate to be given this tremendous opportunity to work with such an iconic character. Going to conventions whether it is comic book, sci-fi, multimedia or what have you can be either very fun or very stressful. Most times it is very stressful as well laid plans never happen and you have to improvise on the run. Take it from me no matter how well you plan you can never predict the human element. Something always goes wrong. It always does it’s inevitable. So here I have a nifty list of things to be prepared for NYCC or any convention you plan on attending. Gerry Anderson Memory Walk Update
As reported back in June, TV producer Gerry Anderson had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and his son has set up a website to raise awareness and money to combat the disease.http://kotwg.blogspot.com/2012/07/alzheimers-society-memory-walk-for.html
A couple of the walks have already happened with one more to go and Jamie Anderson has raised 2 and half million pounds.

Katee Sackhoff joins Gina Carano in cast of all-female 'Expendables'-type movie

And stop comparing it to "The Expendables" - you know, like we did in the headline on this story just to get a few more hits. Early accounts by Screen Rant and others suggest that producer Adi Shankar wants to create "a gritty action title." In other words, Josie and The Pussy Cats alumni need not apply.
Sackhoff, of course, gained sci-fi fame as the hard-fighting, hard-drinking Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on the rebooted "Battlestar Galactica." Her casting follows the announcement that ex-MMA fighter Gina Carano ("Haywire") is part of the team.
