Ben Affleck is the new Batman

"Pssst, Ben! That's the wrong costume."
Ben Affleck will don the cowl again. Instead of suiting up for a "Daredevil" sequel, though, he'll be Batman.

Affleck has been cast as The Dark Knight/Bruce Wayne for Zack Snyder's unnamed sequel to "Man of Steel," which will finally pair DC's two most iconic heroes on the big screen.

The announcement came Thursday from Greg Silverman, prresident of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, president of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Henry Cavill will return with the Big S on his chest for the film. "Man of Steel" so far has brought in more than $650 million worldwide. Also returning for the Bats/Supes team-up are Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

"We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some," Silverman said in a statement. "His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character."

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," Snyder added. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."

"We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.' remarkable legacy with the character of Batman," Kroll said. "He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes."

The film is being written by David S. Goyer from a story he created with Snyder.

Christian Bale: The next Batman (huh?)

You look familiar. Have we met before?
Now that Christian Bale has hung up his cape and cowl, let's address rumors about who will next play Batman on the big screen.

The latest actor attached to the role? Christian Bale.

Confused?

According to a report from Latino Review, Bale is in discussions to don the Bat-tights for a Justice League movie in 2015. That makes sense when you consider that the site also is reporting that Bat-director Christopher Nolan will oversee the project.

Oh, and prepare for a geek overload.

"Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder is mentioned as a Justice League producer and potential director. That raises the possibility of Henry Cavill wearing the Super-cape in the same movie.

Top that, Marvel.

'Man of Steel' super spoilers .... OK, not so super

Henry Cavill flies into theaters as Superman on June 14, 2013.
You have to give the people at ComicBookMovie.com credit. When it comes to news about "Man of Steel," they dig and dig and dig some more. Rather than full-scale spoilers, their most recent efforts have resulted in a some smaller tidbits taken from a call sheet from the movie set.

First:
Okay, so the first scene involves Clark in a bar where loggers like to frequent. This is a dive bar, the customers are a surly bunch as they like to throw beer cans and such. Clark will be confronted by someone named Ludlow, and he'll have to keep his anger in check.
Second:
Alright, and now it's time for the fun stuff. Number five in the call sheet refers to Superman's father Jor-El. The following information takes place on Krypton and it appears as though Jor-El has been wounded in battle by a sword, which is also referred to as an energy lance. Number 11 in the call sheet is referring to Lara, Superman's mother, while number 46 might be baby Superman, Kal-El. Before Jor-El and Lara say goodbye to their child, Jor-El will infuse something into his heart.

Henry Cavill - shirtless, again

"I don't care if the trunks are missing. I want my supersuit back!"
More pictures of Henry Cavill with his shirt off as he films scenes for "Man of Steel?" Why not? These come courtesy of ComingSoon.net.The film itself won't hit theaters until June.

Henry Cavill looks super with his shirt off

Superman doesn't always need his heat vision to make things hot.
The new Superman costume has sparked a heated Internet debate. Where are his trunks? Does it look like it's made of plastic.

But we have no questions about the latest photos from the set of "Man of Steel" in Vancouver, British Columbia. The heat - this one is for you, ladies - is generated by Henry Cavill appearing without a shirt.

Photo credit goes to Lorraine Louie, who emailed the shots to Den Of Geek.

Why is Clark Kent wandering around half-dressed? We won't know for sure until the movie hits theaters in 2013.

By Odin's Beard! Clark Kent with Whiskers

Maybe the bank foreclosed on the Fortress of Solitude, because Superman is looking homeless in the latest photographs from the set of "Man of Steel."

A set of new photos, courtesy of Comic Book Movie, shows a bearded Clark Kent (Henry Cavill). Not the neatly trimmed beard of Tony Stark, either. More like the haggard look of a man down on his luck. Or perhaps temporarily laying low because of the villainous General Zod (Michael Shannon)?

Maybe Lois Lane (Amy Adams) will come to his aid.

Or at least a barber.

By the way, yes, we know "By Odin's Beard" is a Thor line. It sounded better than "Great Caeser's Beard!" Or "Up, up and Burma Shave!"

Sometimes, a Superman costume can be less than, well, super

Henry Cavill is the latest to don the super outfit.
Pictures from the set of "Man of Steel" have ignited a debate over the Superman costume worn by Henry Cavill. We weighed in a couple of days ago ("Where are Superman's pants?"), arguing that the latest incarnation of the super-suit makes the Last Son of Krypton look like he's covered in Saran Wrap.

Add Alan Kistler, "Agent of S.T.Y.L.E.," to the list of critics. Writing at newsarama.com:
I hate the color tones. This looks as if Superman washed his costume too many times and just stopped caring. I understand not wanting to seem overly bright or circus-like, but muting the colors this much takes away from a character who is supposed to be inspirational and a symbol of hope. That, along with the other design elements, indicates that this movie and its creators might be trying to play Superman as "alien soldier" rather than "superhero." It wouldn't be surprising. There are several films and live-action show adaptations that have steered away from reminding the audience that the character was based on a comic book. But guess what? This is Superman. He's the reason "superhero" became a household word. We all know he's a superhero. The secret's out. So embrace it already.

Where are Superman's pants? New photos of Henry Cavill in costume for "Man of Steel"

One of the early controversies surrounding pictures from the filming of "Man of Steel" is the loss of the trademark trunks on Henry Cavill's Superman uniform. The latest photos, courtesy of "Kal-El.9859" and "wacots," have been posted at SuperHero
Hype

And where's the cape in these shots?

Personally, I am more bothered by the general appearance of the uniform. It looks like he has been dressed in blue Saran Wrap.
