Classic Doctor Who Action Figures

There are some really cool figures coming out from Forbidden Planet.  These Era based enemy sets seem to be an exclusive to Forbidden Planet but will probably be available individually down the road.  I borrowed these images and this news from Gallifreybase and I have included some of the usual criticism and probably unwelcome comments.

Superman doesn't always need his heat vision to make things hot.

The new Superman costume has sparked a heated Internet debate. Where are his trunks? Does it look like it's made of plastic.

But we have no questions about the latest photos from the set of "Man of Steel" in Vancouver, British Columbia. The heat - this one is for you, ladies - is generated by Henry Cavill appearing without a shirt.

Val Kilmer is the best Batman? We've got a padded cell reserved for Joel Schumacher

Well, it wasn't as bad as "Batman and Robin."

Should director Joel Schumacher be committed to Arkham Asylum?

That's what we're wondering after the filmmaker recently declared that Val Kilmer "was the best Batman" for "Batman Forever." The 1995 film was directed, of course, by Schumacher.


What makes Schumacher's endorsement of Kilmer bat-spit crazy is that the two infamously did not get along during the production. There were even rumors of fisticuffs on the set between director and star. As Schumacher once told Premiere magazine:

"Val is the most psychologically troubled human being I've ever worked with. The tools I used working with him—tools of communication, of patience and understanding—were the tools I use on my 5-year-old godson. Val is not just high-strung. I think he needs help."

I guess this proves that sci fi fans are smarter than everyone else. Of course, we already knew that.

Or maybe it means we have less regard for copyright laws. We suspected that, too.


TorrentFreak has compiled a Top 10 List of Most Pirated Movies. Eight of the movies on the list have a strong Geek Factor. That makes sense when you think about it. By their nature, sci fi fans generally are going to be better at computers than your average movie fan.

The list is topped by "Avatar," which TorrentFreak estimates has been downloaded 21 million times, followed by "The Dark Knight" and "Transformers," each at 19 million.

Seth MacFarlane dreams of bringing 'Star Trek' back to TV

Seth MacFarlane says he'd rather be hanging out with the "Star Trek" crew.

Seth MacFarlane has a lot on his mind.

There's his hit animated series, "Family Guy," which recently began its 10th season on Fox.

He also is bringing "The Flintstones" back to TV for Fox in 2013.

But the television project he really wants to get his hands on? "Star Trek." As he told The Hollywood Reporter:

"I don't know who would give me the keys to that car. But I’d love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience.”

Sylvester McCoy and Daphne Ashbrook To Be Guests At ICON 31

The Seventh Doctor himself Sylvester McCoy will be a guest at this years ICON 31.  He will be joined by the Eighth Doctor Companion and the first to kiss the Doctor Daphne Ashbrook.  ICON 31 will be held March 30 to April 1, 2012 at the Campus of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York.

DC's Vertigo Imprint To Release "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Graphic Novels

DC has decided to capitalize on the popularity of Steig Larrson's Girl With a Dragon Tattoo series.   Each book will be published in two graphic novels spanning the next 3 years.  No creative team has been announced yet but for fans of this series lets hope DC doesn't screww it up.  The movie based on the first book is out this December.  Here is the press release from DC Comics: The Source.

Scientists discover lair of legendary Yeti - it must be true; it's on the Internet

Until we see evidence like this, we're skeptical.

You can't make this stuff up.

Well, you can. But we're not.

Lee Speigel of the Huffington Post is reporting: "Researchers are claiming they are 95 percent sure that the fabled Russian version of the Abominable Snowman or Bigfoot lives in the Kemerovo region of Siberia."

Just one week into a quest to track down the possible cousin of Sasquatch and Chewbacca, the team says it has found "irrefutable proof" that the creature exists, according to a post on the region of Komerevo's website (no link because we do not understand Russian).
