Helen Mirren eyes a new role: Dr. Who

Does the TARDIS need a woman's touch?
Actress Helen Mirren has portrayed the queen of England, but has her sights set on a much bigger title: Time Lord. She recently told The Daily Star:
“I would like to play the new female Doctor Who. I don’t want to just be his sidekick.”
If she wants the title role, that eliminates the 66-year-old actress as a competitor for taking over as The Doctor's companion when Amy Pond leaves the show. Mirren also would make history as the first female doctor.

First, of course, there's the matter of Matt Smith, the current doctor, who does not appear to be going anywhere soon.
