NYCC '14 Review
New York Comic Con ‘14
Convention Review
This past weekend NYC was inhabited by geeks, cosplayers and comic book fans who only had one thing in mind and that was to have a great time. For four days convention goers made the trek to the Javits Center and from Thursday to Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend Midtown Manhattan was ours to party till we could party no more. NYCC had attendances for the four day event of over 151,000 people attending this convention. That number does not include press, pros, exhibitors or other people who would be in the building. That’s an awfully lot of people so much so that NYCC is now the biggest convention in North America. Bigger than San Diego which was the benchmark that all big conventions are judge by and you can tell there was going to be an increase just by how much a jump in attendees for Thursday. I can only imagine what next year will be like.

NYCC '14 Sunday
New York Comic Con
Sunday
Traditionally the last day
of the convention is not as heavily attended as Saturday. Most people leave early on Sunday to bet the
rush of crowded trains or get an early flight home because they were not able
to get Monday off. But lots of people
attend Sunday at NYCC because Monday is a holiday in the US and most people
have Columbus Day off and on that Monday is when they make the trek home. Sunday this year was no exception as the line
to get in was just as long as the other days.

NYCC ' 14 Saturday
| Penguin Fan's. No just waiting to get in on a rainy Saturday. |
New York Comic Con ‘14
Saturday
Saturday has been historically the biggest day of the convention. Attendance wise and panel wise the big stuff happens on Saturday and to a lesser extent Sunday also has some big stuff. But Saturday is the main day of the 4 days of NYCC and this year it did not disappoint. The day started off rainy as for the first time in my seven years coming to this convention I walked in the rain. What was funny was that the convention goers were all outside of the hotels trying to hail a cab. It wasn’t even raining that hard and the time you would have spent waiting for a cab you could have made the walk to the Javits Center. That’s why the seasoned convention vet always packs a jacket or an umbrella with them. Because you never know what will happen with the weather in the Northeast, Silly Padawans.

NYCC ' 14 Friday
New York Comic Con '14
Friday
Day two at NYCC and it was announced that the attendance for this convention will have more people attending it than San Diego Comic Con last July. That’s a lot of fans of all things geek, cult and comic books to be having a great time in one building and lucky for us the Javits Center is a pretty big building. Plus there are other venues in NYC that the convention is making use of. On that fact Friday this year did seem a lot more packed than last year and it was pretty noticeable early in the day on the main floor that the Friday crowd was just like Saturday last year. So many people and it makes me shudder what Saturday will be like crowd wise.

NYCC ' 14 Thursday
New York Comic Con ‘14
Thursday
In the US it is Columbus Day Weekend and that means it is once again time for NYCC. I am lucky enough to be able attend this year and this four day event and this is some of the observations I had on opening day.
First off it was pretty crowded for a Thursday. The attendance was up from last year opening day as I found it difficult to maneuver around the main show floor in certain areas. The main publisher comic booths had a lot of traffic as did certain merchandise booths that was selling Doctor Who or Anime goodies. I did a lot of my buying on Thursday as my fear was that when the bigger crowds of Saturday and Sunday show up the stuff I want would be sold out or it would be too much of a hassle to fight the crowds to get to that particular booth. With the attendance for Thursday being up I am curious to see what the show floor will look on Friday and Saturday. Saturday is usually nuts and I think it will be crazy this year.
