A Good Man Goes To War Promo Pics

In a recent review it was stated that the kitchen sink was being thrown into A Good Man Goes To War.  Judging by these promo picks that I stumbled across at the Life, Doctor Who, & Combom  I guess the sink is an overstatement.  You can view them here or

Doctor Who: The Almost People Review (Spoilers, Spoilers, Spoilers)

Doctor Who: The Almost People
By Matthew Graham

The second part of last weeks The Rebel Flesh is here and unfortunately it won't be remembered for it's good storytelling or character development or the weird looking CGI creature that one of the Gangers turns into.  No unfortunately it will be remembered for what happens in the final 5 minutes.

This was emailed to me.  I found it pretty funny and a good mock up of the Obama news conference for Usama Bin Laden death announcement.  Check out the full article at this link.

Jeff Conaway Dies at the age of 60

It is really a shame to hear this as this guy has been through so much and really was never able to kick his drug addiction.  His recent overdose of pain meds coupled with pneumonia put him into a coma last week.  He was taken off life support and died the next day.

A short film made by Knight's members and enjoyed by Knight's members.

Samurai versus Lagomorph, a short film inspired by anime, Japanese monster movies, and samurai films.  Don’t ask me what it’s about; it’s just sort of weird.  Enjoy and be on the look out for more short films by Knight’s members.

Doctor Who: The Rebel Flesh (Spoilers Proceed With Caution)

Doctor Who: The Rebel Flesh
by Matthew Graham

When I heard the news that Matthew Graham was writing an episode for Doctor Who a two parter in fact.  I was eager to see this story by the Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes creator and writer but then my memory recalled back to the David Tennant episode Fear Her and then I was a bit hesitant on seeing the Rebel Flesh.

The Rebel Flesh - Doctor Who Episode Review

The latest episode, part one of two, turns back the clock a bit with an old school plot that has very little surprises other than it is excellent.

Torchwood: Miracle Day Brand New Trailer

Leaving Smallville - Series Overview

Ten years ago the series Smallville made its debut and over those years we have seen Clark Kent become the hero he was destined to become. The road was rocky at times and seemed to go on forever, but ultimately we saw the conclusion we all waited for.

Informative Green Lantern Trailer

Here is another Green Lantern trailer but this one is a bit more informative about Green Lantern for those who don't know the backstory. I think this trailer is pretty good but with all these trailers and tv spots have they anything left to show in the movie.

BBC America Delays Doctor Who Due To Memorial Day Weekend

It appears that Doctor Who America will be delaying The Almost People and A Good Man Goes To War due to the fear of low ratings during Memorial Day Weekend.  You can read the full article here at the Newsarama website.

First Pic of Tom Hardy as Bane in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

I came across this bit of news at Newsarama.  I guess there was a Twitter game or something that led to the above picture.  From the looks of it Bane looks different than he does in the comics and that isn't a bad thing.

Randy Savage RIP

As a wrestling fan I was sadden to hear about the passing of the Macho Man.  His matches while in the WWE with Hogan, Ricky Steamboat, Crush, Ric Flair and others were some of the highlights of the late 80's and early 90's.  Mostly his match with Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania 3 which is considered to be one of the top 5 matches in wrestling history.   The former WWE Champion will be missed.

Big Bang Theory Season Finale Tonight

One of the funniest shows on TV today season finale is tonight. It looks like it could be a funny one as Loenard is moving out and Raj is moving in. Can't wait to see what Sheldons roomate agreement is going to be like now.

The Big Bang Theory - The Roommate Transmogrification airs tonight in the US at 8PM ET.

That's one small sip for man ...

For microbrewers down under, the sky is not the limit. With an eye toward space tourism, they have crafted the first beer designed to be consumed in outer space.

Australians Jaron Mitchell, who owns the 4 Pines Brewing Co., a microbrewery, and Jason Held, who works at the space engineering firm Saber Astronautics Australia, have developed the Vostok 4 Pines Stout.

Among the challenges: coming up with a beer that would be appealing to astronauts experiencing the effects of space, which include a loss of taste sensation. As Held told the Sydney Morning Herald:
"Your face puffs out a little bit, your tongue swells up a little bit - it's not extreme, but kind of like having a bad head cold. So we wanted to have a flavor that would be strong enough, that would punch through that."
Other obstacles remain, such as how to drink from a bottle in zero gravity, determining the effect of alcohol in space (gravity can have an impact on how alcohol is absorbed by the body) and where to return the empties for the deposit money.

Thor Movie Review (By Odins Beard Spoilers)

On one of those rare Mondays where there was no school due to a teachers workshop.  My son and I headed down to one of the areas many cinemas and took in the latest from Marvel Comics.  Of course I'm talking about Thor.  I was not a big Thor fan growing up as I did read some of his comics in the

The Blue Bag Attacks

Sherlock Series Two Episode Titles Revealed

I found this tidbit over at Den of Geek.  The article goes on to say that Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss says the fans should expect to see these adventures: A Scandal in Belgravia, The Hounds of the Baskerville and The Reichenbach Fall.  True Holmes fans might have an inkling of what might happen in that last title.  I can't wait to see these when they air later in the year.

Full article here.  http://www.denofgeek.com/television/890518/sherlock_series_2_stories_revealed.html

Edward Hardwicke 1932 - 2011

Fans of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series that ran in the 80's and 90's will be sadden to learn of the passing of Edward Hardwicke who played the 2nd Doctor Watson.   Edward Hardwicke took over the role of Watson form David Burke.   Edward Hardwicke played Doctor Watson along Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes for 8 years (1986 - 1994) and in my opinion Edward Hardwicke was the best Doctor Watson.

Doctor Who: The Doctor's Wife Review (Caution Spoilers Within)

The Doctor's Wife
By Neil Gaiman

Probably one of the most anticipated stories, that isn't a series opener or closer, has finally arrived. When I heard the news last year that Neil Gaiman was writing an episode of Doctor Who I was pretty amazed that someone of his talents would want to write for Doctor Who. As most people know

The Doctor's Wife - Doctor Who Episode Review

3-D Movies Are A Fad

Despite all that has been going on, 3D films are a fad that will die out sooner or later. But it would seem that theaters don’t want this to be the case and are doing anything in their power to keep this gimmick going.

The most awesome newspaper correction ever

From The New York Times. I don't know what else to say.

Where was Worf when this was happening?

In case you missed it, a German TV station gave credit to the Star Trek Maquis for the death of Osama bin Laden. In reference to the U.S. Navy's "Seal Team Six," which carried out the operation in Pakistan, German news channel N24 displayed what it thought was the group's official seal (above).

Problems:

1. It's a fan-made emblem for the anti-Cardassian Star Trek fighters known as The Maquis.

2. The skull is a Klingon. German host: "They don't have that skull in their emblem for nothing." Right - it's to tip you off that this is NOT real!

3. There's a spaceship, among other Trek references, depicted in the emblem.

If The Maquis was involved, well, so much for the Prime Directive.

Is it me, or does the young Mystique look too much like a Smurf?

This is a screen grab from the latest TV spot for "X-Men: We've Talked to the Script Writers About Getting It Right This Time," due out in theaters on June 3. (Sorry, could not get the link to work.)

Who? Yes, The Doctor

"Fright Night," the 1985 vampire movie starring Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall, is getting the Hollywood makeover treatment (oh, joy). Noteworthy, though, is the fact that it features David Tennant in the McDowall role. Here's a picture of Tennant, looking nothing like The Doctor. Maybe next he can tackle McDowall's role in the "Planet of the Apes" prequel. "Fright Night" hits theaters in August.

Flashpoint Out Today

The five part mini series that DC is hoping to be the book of the Summer Kicks off today.  It is written by Geoff Johns (My favorite comic author) and drawn by Andy Kubert (Hopefully it isn't late huh Andy).  You can check out a synopsis of the series and download a checklist from this link.

http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/comics/?cm=17823

I'm not sure what the series is about but I do know that the Flash is either on a different Earth or that his Earths reality has been tampered with and it is up to the Flash to set things right.

Thor! Dr. Who! Little Red Riding Hood! Charlton Heston!

Yes, I saw "Thor" this weekend.

And I just watched "The Curse of the Black Spot," courtesy of iTunes.

But no, this is not a review of either.

Rather, I want to write about "Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs. Evil." I see a lot of kids movies because of my goddaughter, who is about to turn 11. Far too many of them, including this one, are in 3-D for no apparent reason other than to charge more for admission (I saw the 2D version of "Thor" and am willing to bet I did not miss a thing).

Doctor Who - The Curse of the Black Spot

My first reaction to this episode is one of welcome bliss.  After two hours of frantic running around and gimmick heavy plot, we finally have the season’s first simple and yet interesting story.

Doctor Who: The Curse of the Black Spot Review (Warning Spoilers Ahead Me Matey)

The Curse of the Black Spot
by Steve Thompson

The Curse of the Black Spot has the undubious honor of following the mind blowing season opener.  If you are expecting crazy things to happen and more developments of what happened in the previous stories then you will be disappointed.  The Curse of the Black Spot is one of those Doctor Who stories

Is Karen Gillan Leaving Doctor Who?

Now to get things straight this is just speculation and my opinion of what I think is going to happen.  NOTHING I repeat NOTHING has been reported or officially released from the BBC or the producers of Doctor Who.  This is just me

Friday, May 6, 2011

Karen Gillan in Pirate Garb

I do believe that Karen Gillan is the hottest Dr Who companion of all time.  She looks hot in pirate garb that she will be sporting in The Curse of the Black Spot which airs tomorrow on BBC America at 9PM.

Thor vs. Green Lantern

OK, it's not as epic as Lincoln v. Douglas or even Kennedy v. Nixon, but this debate between Thor and Green Lantern is funnier.

Chuck Vs. Bin Laden

In an incredible coincidence Monday night's episode of Chuck included a scene where Casey (Adam Baldwin) tells Chuck he is going to do some target shooting at a range and shows him his paper targets.
It was reported that Bin Laden was hit twice, once in the chest and once in the head, just like the targets here!!!!

Fringe Season 3 Cliff Hanger is Today

Fox has released an interesting trailer for this Fridays season ending episode of Fringe. If you haven't been watching this show you should it is pretty good and well written. Fringe "The Day We Died" airs this Friday and Fox is advertising that one of the characters will die.

Green Lantern New Trailer

I found this on Yahoo. Warner Bros has released a new trailer for Green Lantern. This trailer makes the movie a must see. We actually get a glimpse of the Guardians and more footage of Kilowag. June can't get here quick enough.

Star Wars Blu-Ray

Thor comes out this Friday

Ok comic book fans and summer movie fans here comes the first of many this Summer Movie Season.  This Friday it's Thor.  I'm so amped to see this movie.  From the trailers it looks to be pretty good. Hopefully the story is just as good as the fight scenes.

Eccleston Says "No" to Who!!

Christopher Eccleston, the ninth Doctor, stated on the Graham Norton Radio Show that he would not return as the Doctor in any 50th anniversary special if indeed one was planned.

This happened with Tom Baker for The Five Doctors special in 1983 so it is nothing new and really not a surprise.  Eccelston's abrupt departure from the show after only one season seemed to indicate something else was at work.  Still, there is time for him to change his mind or perhaps enough money thrown his way may be enough.  If a 50th anniversary special was made, it wouldn't be until 2013 of course.

Perhaps they can use a wax dummy of Eccleston in the promo shots!!

Hanna Movie Review

I Just Missed Your Heart

When seeing the trailer for this movie I was a bit hesitant if I wanted to go and see this movie in the theatre or wait and watch it on DVD.  Well along came a rainy Saturday and off I went to see Hanna.

Ape Against the Machine

Lost amid the talk about the upcoming "Thor," "Green Lantern," "Captain America" and "Harry Potter" movies is another film that takes some of us (the older ones, anyway) back to a series from our childhood. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" hits theaters in August. No Tim Burton. No Roddy McDowell.
