'Thor 2' director may come from TV

Alas, we have no umbrellas in Asgard!
It's old news that Patty Jenkins is out as director of "Thor 2," but who's in?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a pair of directors with extensive television experience are among the leading candidates to helm the film.

One is Alan Taylor, who has directed episodes of  HBO’s Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos and AMC’s Mad Men, among others.

The other is Daniel Minahan, whose credits include Game of Thrones, True Blood, Deadwood and Grey’s Anatomy.

'Thor 2' Loses Its Leading Lady, Director Patty Jenkins

Patty Jenkins is out as "Thor 2" director.
First came the news that "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh would not return for the sequel.

Now comes the news that his successor, Patty Jenkins, has left "Thor 2" over "creating differences," according to Mike Jenkins of Deadline:
I’m told that Marvel Studios is already talking to agencies as it canvasses for a new director, something that is expected to happen quickly ... Marvel will have to move fast because it has to meet a November 15, 2013 release date for the sequel.
Jenkins is best known for directing Charlize Theron to an Oscar in "Monster."

Jenkins no longer directing the movie comes as a big surprise as reports had her actively working on pre-production as of this past weekend.
Don Payne, co-writer of the first film, is working on the script for "Thor 2." The sequel will again star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston.

Chris Hemsworth to pack his bags for 'Thor 2'

Hammer time!
Thor better have his Asgardian passport ready.

The Entertainment Weekly website reports that "Thor 2" will take Chris Hemsworth "to other worlds," according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. The movie, he told the site, will “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds."

The Nine Worlds is a reference to the planes of existence that are part of the Asgardian mythology.

First, of course, fans will see Thor in "The Avengers" next year. "Thor 2" will not be in theaters before the summer of 2013.

Thor may also be getting a new woman in his life, according to EW. A leading candidate to fill the director's chair is Patty Jenkins, best known for "Monster," which won an Oscar for Charlize Theron in 2003. Nothing has been finalized yet.
