The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray

Here is some information on the March 19 Blu-ray release on the first chapter in The Hobbit movie trilogy.

The Standard set with extras

The 2 Disc set includes the movie on Blu-ray, DVD and Ultraviolet (Digital Download) and will include video blogs, trailers and game trailers.

A single disc release will include the movie only.

Other versions include the following

The 3-D version is the same as the 2-D combo set

Walmart has an exclusive Digibook

Target has an exclusive 2 pack with a Lego figure

The WB Shop has an exclusive as well.

There is also a Best buy exclusive with a Golem cover and numerous foreign covers as well.

BUT WAIT - the extended edition with 20 minutes extra footage will be out by the Holidays of this year so you may want to wait.  Also, there is no word on if there will be a High Frame Rate version released.

UPDATED:  Apparently Warner Brothers has retracted the below statement that there will be an extended edition release in 2013 - either take that as they jumped the gun and the official announcement is on its way or that they aren't doing it at all.

Okay, so Peter Jackson doesn't like to throw anything away and this is especially true when making movies. Each of his Lord of the Rings movies had extended editions that were released in the theater as well as released on home video.  Now the shorter story, The Hobbit, is being stretched out into another trilogy and the thought was that instead of subjecting film goers to 2 very long films with extended versions to follow that perhaps he would include everything in three moderately long films.  I guess that is not the case. Warner Bros. has just announced a Blu-ray release of an extended version of the first Hobbit film.
