Not coming to a theater near you anytime soon. |
It's not too early to call this "The summer of the Avengers."
For fans of superhero movies, the film featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, The Hulk, Hawkeye and Thor was nearly perfect (thank you, Joss Whedon). Maybe the only person who isn't happy with the summer blockbuster is Loki.
Oh, and the folks at D.C. Comics/Warner Bros..
While Marvel Entertainment's recent comic book movies have soared - the afore-mentioned Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, to name three - D.C.'s efforts at crossing over to Hollywood in recent years have gone about as well as a Lex Luthor scheme to take over the planet.
"Superman Returns," "Watchmen," "Jonah Hex" and "Green Lantern" were disappointments, both critically and at the box office.
Leave it to the director of "The Dark Knight" trilogy to offer a ray of hope to fans of D.C.'s own super team, the Justice League. Christopher Nolan breathed new life into the movie series. Unfortunately, though, he apparently is not interested in bringing Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and others together on the big screen.
Ben Fitz of the Los Angeles Times reports that Nolan has declined any involvement in a Justice League movie, tentatively set for 2015, although he is a producer of next summer's Superman reboot, "Man of Steel."
"It was a conversation we had," Warner Bros. film group
President Jeff Robinov said. "Obviously anything you can get Chris
involved in is great."
With nothing new on the D.C. horizon after "Man of Steel," Marvel has sequels in the works for "Iron Man," "Thor" and "Captain America," as well as the debut of "Guardians of the Galaxy." And an "Avengers" sequel is inevitable.
