With the current success of the modern day Sherlock Holmes, both in the movies and on TV, there are many who wish for a crossover with Doctor Who. The irony is that has already happened in written form. Granted, it's not the current incarnation of the Doctor and the setting is mainly in the 1800s, but for all intents and purposes, this is Arthur Conan Doyle's character.
All Consuming Fire by Andy Lane is unique in that it is told, for most of the novel, from the point of view of Dr. John Watson. Other parts are made up from Professor Bernice Summerfield's diary entries. The novel itself is like a book within a book. The story ranges from Victorian England to India to another world and has all the characters - The Doctor, Ace, Benny, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, Mycroft Holmes, Sherrinford Holmes, James Moriarty, Mrs. Hudson and even the Pope. Yes, I said the Pope. You would think the Doctor and Sherlock would get along but you would be quite wrong. Sherlock barely tolerates the Doctor in this novel. For me, this is not unexpected since they both are intelligent and have strong personalities. There is even a treat of multi-Doctor encounter when the Seventh Doctor deliberately causes his former incarnation to become angry which subsequently gets the Third Doctor kicked out of Diogenes Club. I would highly recommend this novel to any Doctor Who fan and anyone who appreciates Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters.
It should be noted that the title of the book within this novel is called "All-Consuming Fire: Being a Reprint From the Reminiscences of Doctor John Watson".
