Daniel Radcliffe as Dr. Who - what?

Is David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, going to make a Dr. Who movie? He says yes. Who showrunner Steven Moffat says no. Yes, we've been through all of this before.

Now comes an interview in which Harry Potter himself, actor Daniel Radcliffe, is asked whether he'd be interested in playing the Time Lord. Thankfully, Radcliffe has more sense than most of the people reporting every Who movie rumor they can get their hands on and starting ones that they can't get their hands on (Wait. Did I just take a shot at myself?) Anyway, his reaction in the video above - just the look on his face - is priceless. Or timeless, if you will.

"I don't know if I could play him. Matt Smith plays Doctor Who and does a wonderful job. They don't need me!I would never presume to jump into somebody else's franchise, not at all."

Next rumor, please.

Steven Moffat on Dr. Who Hollywood 'reboot:' Over my 'beheaded' body!

Steven Moffat appears to have the fans - and maybe even the Daleks - on his side.
Much talk in recent weeks has revolved around  director David Yates (the last four "Harry Potter" movies) seemingly laying the groundwork for a Dr. Who movie. Yates has made it clear that his version of a proposed Hollywood franchise would be completely separate from the popular and beloved BBC TV show. As he recently told Variety:
“Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch."
Not surprisingly, many fans were upset by the news. Moffatt himself was quick to do his best to quash the talk, declaring simply:
“To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot."
Apparently not content with that retort, Moffat responded again this week during an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live's Richard Bacon Show:
David was talking a little out of turn, there; a very, very brilliant director but no the film as described by him, of course we're not going to do that - a film that contradicts the television series, it would be a heathen thing to do ... I would be 'beheaded' to do such a thing!
It would be wonderful to do a Doctor Who film, but when and if we did - and hopefully we will be doing it - it will be very much an offshoot of the television series and we'll be part of it, and it will star the television Doctor, of course - anything else would be heresy!
Strong words, but until Yates gives in, is the battle over?

Steven Moffat vs. David Yates on Dr. Who movie: Who ya got?

All these "Dr. Who" move rumors are driving us nuts, too, Matt.
Are Steven Moffat and David Yates on Facebook? If so, they need to friend each other and start talking before the "Dr. Who" movie rumors get any more confusing.

The back story (short version): Yates, director of the last four "Harry Potter" movies, has spoken openly about helming a "Dr. Who" feature that he says would have nothing to do with the television series, including a new cast (sorry, Matt Smith) and Hollywood production. As he told Variety:
“Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch."

'Dr Who' being developed as movie franchise by 'Harry Potter' director

"Lights, camera ... action" for Matt Smith?
"Dr. Who" is headed to the big screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Borys Kit reported Monday that "Harry Potter" director David Yates is being developed as a movie franchise. The project is very early in the process; writes are being sought.

Kit wrote that the movie would not be connected to the TV show, which raises all sorts of questions about casting. Does this mean Matt Smith has no shot at the starring role? Or that they could choose to bring back David Tennant?

Yates is best-known for directing four movies in the Potter series: "Order of the Phoenix," "Half-Blood Prince," and "Deathly Hallows Part 1" and "Part 2."
