It's that time again when there is a new episode of Doctor Who and that means interviews from the BBC Media Centre.  Today we continue with the fourth interview with Steven Moffat.

What does Twice Upon A Time have in store for us?

There are some new eerie creatures of glass haunting the Doctor and his friends throughout this story - but what their purpose and what their plan is, and what their time traveling machinations are, is going to be a big surprise to the Doctor.

Interview With Doctor Who Show Runner Steven Moffat

The BBC Media Centre has released a bunch of interviews for the launch of Series 10 of Doctor Who and today we present the Steven Moffat interview.  Doctor Who returns Saturday April 15th.

What have we got to look forward to in series 10?

Series 10, sort of, begins the show again. The first episode is called, quite mischievously, The Pilot - it introduces everything you need to know about Doctor Who and tips you into the universe. It takes our characters; The Doctor and Nardole (who we already know) and Bill (who we’re about to meet) and throws them into the Universe. They’re not equipped to deal with it, they’re not armed or wearing armour - they’re just flung into that universe and told to deal with it. They become heroes because they hit those moments where there is no alternative - being a hero is about the time you need to become a hero. It becomes the purest, most innocent version of Doctor Who in a way. It is a brand new person, Bill - walking into the TARDIS - where will the TARDIS take us - open the doors - walk out and there’s a monster - fight it. It is storybook simple. Of course that story complicates as it goes on because The Doctor is a much more complicated man than he first seems. But it’s Doctor Who at its purest I would say. Everything you need to know about Doctor Who is explained in that first episode - the cloaking device, the chameleon circuit, the bigger on the inside - all of that is there and you even get to see the Daleks. The idea was just to introduce Doctor Who properly - the story starts here. You need to know nothing before this point.

Knowing that this was your last series - how did you go about planning series 10? Were there any themes and ideas that you absolutely wanted to get in?

Doctor Who The Curse of Fatal Death Gets Red Nose Day Release

The BBC have released on youtube the 1999 Doctor Who spoof The Curse of Fatal Death that starred Rowan Atkinson as the 9th Doctor.  This special for Red Nose Day 1999 was written by Steven Moffat and features quite a bit of star studded guest stars including Richard E. Grant who would go on to play The Doctor in Scream of the Shalka and the Great Intelligence in The Name of the Doctor.  You can watch this special release below.

Doctor Who Stars Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Steven Moffat Interviews

On their way to New York City for NYCC Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Steven Moffat made a stop in Toronto Canada and did a bunch of interviews including one on the Space Facebook page. Steven Moffat Confirms Length of Runs For Sherlock and Doctor Who in 2017

For those wondering how many episodes we would get in 2017 of Sherlock and Doctor Who have no fear as Steven Moffat has confirmed how many we will get according to an article by Den of Geek.  For Sherlock it will be the standard three episode run and for Doctor Who Series 10 it will be thirteen episodes not counting the Christmas Special for 2016 and 2017.  I'm speculating that Moffat will do the 2017 Christmas Special as it has been reported that Chris Chibnall's run starts with Series 11 in 2018.  

Doctor Who - Steven Moffat To Step Down After Series 10 To Be Replaced By Chris Chibnall

It was announced tonight that Steven Moffat will step down as showrunner and executive producer after Series 10 which will air in the Spring of 2017. There will only be a Christmas Special this year as they want to hold back the next series due to the Olympics and Euro 16.  Chris Chibnall has been tapped as Steven Moffat's successor and his series will air in 2018.  Steven Moffat had this to say about his leaving a show that he's over seen for six series.

 “Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I’m just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out. While Chris is doing his last run of Broadchurch, I’ll be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for him. It took a lot of gin and tonic to talk him into this, but I am beyond delighted that one of the true stars of British Television drama will be taking the Time Lord even further into the future. At the start of season 11, Chris Chibnall will become the new showrunner of Doctor Who. And I will be thrown in a skip.”

Here is what new showrunner Chris Chibnall had to say about his appointment to over see Doctor Who.

"Doctor Who is the ultimate BBC programme: bold, unique, vastly entertaining, and adored all around the world.  So it's a privilege and a joy to be the next curator of this funny, scary and emotional family drama. I’ve loved Doctor Who since I was four years old, and I’m relishing the thought of working with the exceptional team at BBC Wales to create new characters, creatures and worlds for the Doctor to explore.  Steven’s achieved the impossible by continually expanding Doctor Who's creative ambition, while growing its global popularity. He’s been a dazzling and daring showrunner, and hearing his plans and stories for 2017, it’s clear he’ll be going out with a bang. Just to make my life difficult."

So 2016 will only see a Christmas Special and 2017 will see the return of the show in the Spring where it was on for most of its revival.  Here's to Series 10 and lets hope Steven Moffat makes his last series memorable for all the right reasons.

After a long wait and a lot of speculation on what the New Year’s Day special would be about for the critically acclaimed Sherlock series by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss has finally been shown on our TV Screens.   We now know the answers to all our speculations and was it worth the long wait since 2014 when the show was last on?  Most fans would say yes and for me the lure was seeing the main cast set in Victorian times and yes this special was pretty good if not a tad confusing at times.

The Doctor Who Christmas Specials have been hit or miss throughout the shows revival and now we have the 11th Christmas Special and the 6th one that Steven Moffat has written.  While the Christmas Specials are supposed to be light hearted and fun we have had some that have been darker and taken a more serious tone like The Snowmen and A Christmas Carole both written by Moffat.  I tend to like the stories that take a more serious tone and keep the silliness to a minimum.  So when it was announced that River Song will be making her appearance in this year’s Christmas story I had some reservations about The Husbands of River Song.

Can you give us an introduction to the episode you’ve written this year?
The Doctor is an all new man and has been for a while. It may have slipped his mind that out there, in a very tangled and complicated way, is his wife that has never seen this face before and doesn’t even know about this incarnation. We’re about to stand with the Doctor and see what River is like when she doesn’t know he’s looking. We’re about to see what River thinks of Matt Smith turning into Peter Capaldi.

After last week’s emotion story Face the Raven we are given a story that is absolutely different and something we haven’t seen in Doctor Who for sometime a companionless story. Well this story could be called Doctor Who meets Groundhogs Day because that’s how it felt towards the end when it became repetitive and dragged out a bit too long watching him punch the diamond wall over and over again.   The normal 45 minutes would have sufficed and some of the Groundhog Day sequences could have been cut down a bit.  That’s my opinion and it seems I’m in the minority here as lots of thought it was great.  But I did get what they were doing and what tale they were referencing if you Google How Long is Eternity?  you’ll have the source for why The Doctor was  punching the diamond and why it took 2 million years which was pretty clever in a way but I still thought that it was way to reminiscent of Groundhog Day instead of a fable but the fable is where it comes from.
