The Gallifreyan Gazette Blog - 4th Anniversary

It has been 4 years since we started the blog and almost 28 years since our Knights group was formed.  Since the beginning we have provided a variety of news, articles, reviews and opinion concerning Doctor Who and other sci-fi and fantasy TV, movies and books.  Whether it was on the pages of our paper copy newsletter or our e-mailed newsletter or this blog site, our content has usually been based on what our contributors did for us.  We would make sure we covered most Doctor Who news and reviews and when we could, we would follow other franchises and products.  One of my personal favorites is the work of Gerry Anderson and so when searching back through our archives you will probably run into a fair amount of that topic.

This Knights Blog went live April 9, 2011 but its origins started 24 years early with the formation of The Knights of the White Guardian fan club and its newsletter, From Below the Citadel – The Gallifreyan Gazette. That newsletter regenerated several times over the years with its latest incarnation being the blog site in 2011. As with the latest Doctor Who story, once again, we will be regenerating.

Our title banner and overall look will comprise the majority of the changes. We are bringing back The Gallifreyan Gazette and changing our appearance to a more traditional newspaper like look. We are also getting rid of our ever changing banner photos and instead including a series of Gallifreyan writing which may actually mean something! We will no doubt tweak things as we go along but we hope you like the changes.

Content-wise we discussed the option of just going with Doctor Who but felt we wanted to keep things open for all things sci-fi and fantasy. We do heavily favor Doctor Who and will continue to do so in the future. We are always looking for contributors for articles and such.

Expect the changes to happen over the next few days with some testing and experiments along the way. The web address and most everything will remain the same.

We are always looking for feedback.

The Knights May Party Report!

Threatening rain and cool temperatures did not stop lots of outdoor fun at our annual Memorial Day Party.  The Knights were in attendance in Connecticut and enjoyed some fun indoors and outdoors.  Katy whipped up another excellent dinner for us and had our usual discussions and fun.  For a few who had not caught up with Doctor Who this season, we watched the latest episode, "The Name of the Doctor" and recorded our podcast discussion right after.

The fun outside was windy and at times, wet, but just as fun.  All of the current Knights kids were in attendance.  Something that has not happened since that number is now at 7.  That was pretty special.  Here are some photo highlights of that day!

The Knights Podcast Recording Planned

For those Knights members interested, we are planning on audio recording the Doctor Who Season 7B discussion for The Knights Podcast series.  Our first half of season 7 discussion is here.  We welcome all members in the discussion at our next party/meeting if time allows on May 26.

For all others - keep an eye out for the podcast and feel free to comment.

The Knights April Party

The Knights had our April Party in on April 27 and it was a fun one.  For the first time this year the weather really allowed for outside activities and the kids took advantage of this and played some games.  The adults took part in various discussions which included the latest Doctor Who story at that time, "Hide", some other TV shows and movies and why was their a police helicopter circling the area.

The group visited Spiros restaurant for the first time in years only to find out the name had changed to Angelo's Family Restaurant.  The highlight was probably the consumption of Spaghetti by 5 year old Melanie who rarely eats anything but certainly put it away that day. After a decent meal people little by little left for the evening.  The party didn't end there since many members got together the following day for a Christening. It was great to see members there in that sort of mini Knights party event.

One of our bigger events of the year is coming up next.  Our Memorial Day event will be held on May 26 and as usual, a great time is anticipated for all.

The Knights will also be recording their next podcast, probably during that party.  The topic will be the second half of season "7" of Doctor Who and I am sure there will be a lot to talk about.  Anyone who wants to attend upcoming parties or take part in our podcast please e-mail John at dwhoknight@aol.com

Happy Birthday The Knights Blog

On April 9, 2011 we posted our first news piece, announcing when the Doctor Who season would begin airing on BBC America.  A few days later on the 12th we began posting on a regular basis and have not stopped.  We have posted 2595 posts in that time ranging from the sad news of Elizabeth (Sarah Jane Smith) Sladen's death to celebrating Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary.

Agenda -

Because Doctor Who is back on air again we will no doubt watch a few episodes and discuss what we have seen so far. I would expect our conversations will deal with the mystery surrounding Clara Oswald and a general review of the episodes to date. Since there is an episode scheduled that night on BBC America we will be watching that as well! The episode is called “Journey to the Center of the TARDIS”

We will also be snacking and eating dinner (probably order out or grill). Feel free to bring a snack.

Our meeting will go over some of the latest changes to our blog site as well as discuss our plans to move our newsletter and other publications to the internet and create a searchable database. Ideas are welcome.

Podcast – If there is enough interest we will audio record our next podcast which currently has no topic so if you have an idea or two, let us know. We will be doing our Doctor Who Season 7B podcast after all the episodes have aired, probably at our May 26 or June 15 parties.

The Knights on Facebook - George Knight

We have just create a identity on Facebook.  The name connected to this is George Knight and our hope is to keep the Facebook site linked to this Blog site.  All articles and news posts here would also be posted in the Facebook site.
