VALEYARD: Whether or not the Doctor has proved himself innocent of meddling is no longer the cardinal issue before this court. He has proved himself guilty of a far greater crime.

INQUISITOR: You refer to Article seven of Gallifreyan law?

DOCTOR: No, my lady, that cannot apply! Had a single Vervoid reached Earth, the human race would have been eliminated!

VALEYARD: Article seven permits no exceptions. The Doctor has destroyed a complete species. The charge must now be genocide.

The Doctor is now ready to present his case after a short time to mourn the death of Peri shows the court an adventure from his future.  The Doctor and new companion Mel respond to a distress signal from the Hyperion 3.  Apparently there is something sinister going on as a string of murders has taken place.  The Commodore is an old friend of The Doctor and lets him take charge of the investigation.

That is not the only strange occurrence going on as there appears to be some strange seed pods in the cargo deck.   In fact the pods are big enough for a human to fit in them.  Mel wanted to see them but is stopped by a member of the crew who decides to show her the pods.  He proceeds to open the gate when he is electrocuted and that bright light has brought to life the creatures inside the pods.  Now more people have started to disappear and and there are leaves being left at the scene.  The Doctor now has two mysteries and the task of saving everyone on the ship and preventing the Vervoids from getting to Earth and killing the entire population.

Having been taken out of time by the Time Lords, the 6^th Doctor’s trial continues as the Valeyard continues to build his case against the Doctor as the court are presented with the next segment of evidence from the Matrix. The trial begins to examine the Doctor’s most recent adventure on the planet Thoros Beta, where the Doctor and Peri discover their old enemy Sil is now trading in weapons. Thoros Beta is the home planet of Sil’s race, but the Mentors’ leader - Lord Kiv - is seriously ill, and the scientist Crozier has been given the task of finding a way to save him.

The Doctor are and Peri are shocked to discover that Crozier has been conducting horrific genetic experiments on King Yrcanos and his best friend, Dorf, who has been transformed into a wolf-like hybrid, however Crozier’s attempt to brainwash Yrcanos has yet to prove successful. When the Doctor is found tampering with the mind-altering machine by Sil and his guards, the Doctor is strapped into Crozier’s transference device which is then activated.

VALEYARD: By order of the High Council, this is an impartial enquiry into the behaviour of the accused person, known as the Doctor, who is charged that he, on diverse occasions has been guilty of conduct unbecoming a Time Lord.

DOCTOR: Not guilty!

VALEYARD: He is also charged with, on diverse occasions, transgressing the First Law. It is my unpleasant task, Madam Inquisitor, to prove to the enquiry that the Doctor is an incorrigible meddler in the affairs of other peoples and planets.

The Doctor arrives on a Time Lord space station where he is confronted by the Valeyard.  The Valeyard explains to The Doctor that he will be put on trial for endless interfering and meddling while putting his companion in constant danger.  The Doctor refuses a lawyer and will defend himself against the charges brought up by The Valeyard but the kicker is if The Doctor is found guilty he must surrender his remaining regenerations and be sentenced to death.

The first piece of evidence takes place on the planet Ravolox which strikes a resemblance to Earth.  The Doctor even thinks it seems familiar and that he was here before but doesn’t think he has.  They are soon getting weird vibes when they enter a cave and it resembles a subway station.   They are soon in what appears to be a base which is called UK Habitat and is the home of humans who are ruled by the Dratho who the Tribe of the Free calls the Immortal.

The Doctor is also concerned that Glitz and Dibber are on the planet wanting to steal the secrets of the Matrix that the Sleeprs stole from Gallifrey. All this does not make sense as The Doctor tries to get to the bottom of it and find out what is really going on with Ravolox or Earth as it is discovered to be.

Geoffrey Hughes Doctor Who's Mr Popplewick Has Passed Away

Geoffrey Hughes who played Mr Popplewick, who was The Valeyard in disguise, has passed away last night.  He lost his battle against cancer and he was 68 years old.  I always loved watching him in Keeping Up Appearances as Hyacinth's  brother in law Onslow.  His small part was an integral part of Ultimate Foe the last story in Trial of a Timelord.
