Doctor Who - Test Animation For Evil of The Daleks and The Tenth Planet

Here is something I have stumbled on that has been making the rounds on the different Doctor Who websites lately.  It is test animation from Quiros who animated the missing parts for The Ice Warriors which starred Patrick Troughton.  Here is a video of Evil of The Daleks which is used as test animation and not for a DVD of the missing episode plus a piece for The Tenth Planet which went to another company and which has been released last fall on DVD.

As a 10 year old I fell in love with Space: 1999. Not sure if it was all the cool explosions or just the thrill of exploring outer-space with the men and women of Moonbase Alpha. I might also have been scared out of my mind but had to watch the next episode. I watched both seasons of the series and loved it all. If you were to ask Space: 1999 fans about the show, one of the topics of discussion that always comes up is the differences between season 1 and 2. Shows often will go through changes but Space: 1999 underwent a massive explosion of changes.

The following article will take a look at the changes, why they were done and what went wrong with these changes. In a future article I will look at continuity specifically for Space: 1999 and how that ties into fandom and the recent books and comics adapting new adventures from the series.

Its a Matt Smith farewell issue of Doctor Who Magazine as they look back at the four years Matt Smith was The Doctor and an interview with him about his time on the show.  Issue 470 is out now.

Paul Bettany is the Vision in The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Confirmation that Paul Bettany (the voice of Jarvis in the Iron Man films) will play The Vision in the upcoming Avengers sequel slated for 2015.

Many comic book fans know who the Vision is but for those who don't and want to remain spoiler free, don't read any further.

Sherlock 4 Season 4 - Another 2 Year Wait?

I guess good things are worth waiting for and the best British TV series by far, Sherlock will have to wait until possibly 2015 or longer.  Obviously everyone on that show is busy with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman doing other projects like The Hobbit. Cumberbatch is also being rumored to be in the next Star Wars film.  Fans are used to this as the recent season 3 was 2 years in the making.

The TARDIS is thrown off course and makes a bumpy landing on the Moon in 2070 where the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and companions Jamie (Frazer Hines), Ben (Michael Craze) and Polly (Anneke Wills) discover a weather control station where a mysterious plague has broken out. Jamie has been injured exploring the lunar surface, while he recovers the Doctor offers to help Hobson (Patrick Barr) deal with the epidemic. The Doctor discovers the illness was caused by an alien poison the Cybermen have used to contaminate the food stores after secretly entering the base.

After taking over the Moonbase and seizing control of the Gravaton with crewmembers they’ve converted into slaves, the Cybermen prepare to use the weather controlling gravity beam to destroy all life on Earth. Polly and her friends manage to destroy the Cybermen in the base using a cocktail of chemicals sprayed from the fire extinguishers, which dissolves their plastic chest units. As more Cybermen begin advancing across the lunar surface, the Doctor gets Hobson to use the Gravaton against them, blasting them and their ships into space with the gravity beam. The Doctor and his companions return to the TARDIS where the Doctor activates the Time Scanner - a device that can show a glimpse of the future - and the image of a giant claw suddenly fills the screen…

Star Wars: Rebels to Debut This Summer

Disney XD has released some information on their first Star Wars production, the animated Star Wars: Rebels.  A movie will debut on the Disney Channel followed by some shorts and then a continuing series on
Disney XD.

Classic Space: 1999 - To Everything That Was - Comic Collection Review

Space: 1999 is my favorite show of all time and so when a product comes out like this, it has gotten my attention for sure.  After enjoying the first compilation of comics, Space: 1999 Aftershock and Awe, I figured I was all in on the rest of this series of comics.  This one would be not all original as it would reprint some of the original comic books and strips from the Annuals from the 70's.  Not just keeping it a straight reprint, publisher Archaia has made some changes to the comics in order to tie in with the continuity from the series and their own vision of the Space: 1999 tale which is represented in a new original story at the end of this collection.

What Are the Chances That All 97 of the Missing Doctor Who Episodes Will Be Found?

You hear rumors and all of the sudden your heart races.  Could it be that they found an episode of Doctor Who?  Could the number of missing episodes go down to 105 total?  Then you find out that they did find not one but 11.  WOW!! That was such a great feeling back in October of last year.  But that is not all.  Rumors continue and the same sources that claimed "Enemy of the World" and "Web of Fear" were back are saying more are back.

How many more?  7?  "Marco Polo"?  40? 96? 97?  97.....ummm, that is all that is missing right now.  You are telling me that every single Doctor Who episode now exists?  Ridiculous?  Right?  Well, no, not really.

Arthur Rankin Jr. and Larry D. Mann RIP

Creator of many of our childhood favorites Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Little Drummer Boy and The Year Without a Santa Claus has passed away at the age of 89.  Rankin and Jules Bass were responsible for all of those stop motion specials we all watched around the Christmas season.  he also worked on the animated Frosty the Snowman and The Last Unicorn and Thundercats.

I stated these were our childhood favorites but really they were staples of every Christmas throughout my life and have new meaning for me personally as my 6 year old is discovering them over the past few years.

Recently there was the sad death of Larry D. Mann, who played the voice of Yukon Cornelius in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. He also played parts in Gunsmoke and Bewitched.  He was 91.
