Star Wars – Rebels Spark of the Rebellion

Review by Ken Parker

So Star Wars is back in animation form after The Clone Wars abruptly ended last season. Now under Disney control, Star Wars – Rebels takes place after the events of Revenge of the Sith and a few years before A New Hope. A brand new set of characters take center stage and a new animation team take over. After a few online shorts, the series has finally debut with an hour long episode. How did it hold up?

Doctor Who - Kill The Moon Review - Spoilers

By Ken Parker

Doctor Who is on a roll in my opinion. Not since the second half of season 7 when we saw a few really good episodes in a row has the show enjoyed a consistent quality. Nothing has been absolutely spectacular mind you but nothing has been bad. We don't have too many silly head shaking moments that Doctor Who has become famous for. Peter Capaldi has steadily become the Doctor and Clara continues to do her part as the companion. The stories have ranged from the light-hearted to the dark but all have had some nice double meaning and underlying themes that have been strong and well executed. The episodes have not been these frantic runaround stories designed to confuse and misdirect from script shortcomings. They have been direct and simple enough without too many gimmicks. What of "Kill the Moon"? Are we due for the seasons first clunker of a messy script?

Doctor Who - Kill the Moon Review (Spoilers)

Doctor Who:
Kill the Moon
By Peter Harness

“Get back in your lonely bloody TARDIS and you don’t come back!”

Kill the Moon is here and if you go from the trailer it looked like it was supposed to be really scary. Behind the sofa kind of scary that makes you scream out in fright.  Steven Moffat was quoted as saying to writer Peter Harness to “Hinchcliffe the $#@% out of it.”   That gave me some hope for this episode as I really enjoyed the Philip Hinchcliffe era of Doctor Who with its Gothic horror and smart storytelling.  Let’s face it. After the two light hearted stories we have had lately it was time to get the scares back into the show.   So bring on the scares and give people nightmares as I’m ready for a scary one.

Coherence Movie Review - Mind Boggling and Creepy

By Ken Parker

This review will be broken up into two parts, a non spoiler review and then a spoiler heavy review. By all means read the first part but do NOT read the last part if you have not seen the film. This is one of those films that needs to be seen without any spoilers.
This low budget independent movie is one of those films that doesn't come out in wide release and you probably don't even hear about it until you see a review or someone mentions it at some point down the line. Coherence is a film that is such a simple idea and yet so genius at the same time.

A group of friends gather together for a night of wine and food. These friends have a long history together and the usual personality clashes and connections that you expect. Everything seems fairly normal but it isn't. A cracked phone and the power going out in the neighborhood are only the beginning. The presence of a passing comet seems to be related to a few strange happenings or at least the paranoia of the friends. While breaking out the candles and glow sticks, the group notices a house a down the street with its lights on. Why don't they go check it out?

Spoilers toward the end of the review

Firestorm is Go!! Jamie Anderson's Kickstarter Reaches First Goal

This is incredible news and in just 3 days Firestorm has raised enough money to be produced into a minisode of around 5 minutes. Stretch goals are now hoped for and would lengthen the production to a 22 minute or even a 45 minute pilot.  Given that the pledged amount has already topped the goal of 49,280 pounds, it seems highly likely that the next goal is achievable.  There are still 29 days left and it is not too late to pledge for some great rewards.

Doctor Who - Radio Times Kill The Moon Poster

Here is this weeks poster for Kill the Moon. This one is pretty good as I'm really enjoying these types of old style posters.
