Eye on Sci Fi - Trailers, Rogue One, Carrie

It has been quite a while for this column and I have tons of things building up to talk about but I want to basically go with just a couple of things this time out. But first....

Carrie Fisher - For the past few months we have been hearing about how bad 2016 has been for celebrity deaths and with everyone thinking about this and focused on this, every time someone dies we hear about it and hate 2016 even more.  Yes, it has been bad but with the news that Carrie Fisher has passed away, it reaches a horrible level of bad that we could only have imagined in our greatest nightmares.  Carrie Fisher was an incredible woman with her outspoken personality and influence. She portrayed Princess Leia in Star Wars and that character was a strong female that would have a immeasurable influence on society.

When these celebrities leave us, it feels that part of our childhood is gone forever.  These people influenced us when we were younger.  They were our idols or heroes.  They are bigger than life and when this happens it is devastating.  Her legacy not only in Star Wars but as a personality will be remembered.  Our thoughts and prayers to family and friends.

Carrie Fisher's Daughter Will Play Princess Leia in Star Wars VII

Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher's daughter, is set to play Princess Leia in some flashback scenes for the upcoming Star Wars movie.

The movie is slated for December 2015 but Harrison Ford's injury may delay this release.  J.J. Abrams is requesting a move to May 2016, a move that Disney does not want to
do.

Star Wars VII - The Cast

First off I am glad that the list is mostly unknowns as was the original Star Wars.  We don't know who is playing what yet but can only guess.  As been reported earlier this week, the new movie series will not be based on any of the Expanded Universe that has been circulating for years.  Joining original cast members Returning cast members include - Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker are -

Carrie Fisher Is Returning To Star Wars!?!?!

 

Carrie Fisher has come out and said that she will be in the new Star Wars movie.  Now this is coming from her and not an official announcement from Disney or J.J Abrams so take it as you will but it does look pretty likely that she will be in the new movie.  Here is her quote from the interview with Palm Beach Illustrated  where she spilled the beans.

Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you'll reprise the role of Princess Leia?
Yes.
What do you think Princess Leia is like today?
Elderly. She's in an intergalactic old folks' home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.

George Takei asks 'Star Trek,' 'Star Wars' fans to unite against the real evil - 'Twilight'

Leave it to a navigator to set the true course.

First, William "Capt. James T. Kirk" took a couple of shots via video at the "Star Wars" franchise, claiming it was derivative of "Star Trek."

Carrie "Princess Leia" Fisher responded. "Where do they go - Klingon? Sounds like a laundry detergent."

Shatner posted another video ... well, you get the idea.

Getting what we hope is The Last Word is George "Sulu" Takei. In a video posted on his blog site on Sunday, Takei called on fans of both franchises to rally together against the vampire menace - "Twilight."

"What is needed now today, more than ever, is 'star peace,' for there is an ominous, mutual threat to all science fiction. It's called 'Twilight.'"

Carrie Fisher takes on William Shatner

Princess Leia vs. Captain Kirk?

No, it's not some sort of alternative-universe fan fiction. It happened. On our very own planet.

In September, William Shatner posted a video in which he talked about why "Star Trek" is better than "Star Wars."

On Friday, Carrie Fisher fired back. Among her retorts:

"My space buns were so much better than Nimoy’s ears” she said. Can't argue with that.
