Argh Pirates have arrived at SuperMegaFest

This year’s SuperMegaFest was, for me, a long journey finally completed.  It all started way back in 1995 when I purchased a cast photo from series 2 of Babylon 5.  Now I believe I bought it at United Fancon to get Jeff Conway’s autograph, well, mainly because there were not any good single photos of him from Babylon 5.  Wasn’t a big Grease fan so was not interested in those and Babylon 5 had just started its second season and was just about to hit it’s big popularity era.

Dean Cain does not like being reminded that it has been 19 years since the actor first donned the tights to play Superman in "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman."

But fans attending SuperMegaFest in Framingham, Mass., over the weekend have not forgotten.

Truth be told, the 46-year-old Cain does not mind, either. He was having a little fun with a fan who asked him about continuing to carry the legacy of the Man of Steel some 15 years after "Lois and Clark" ended its four-year run. The still-handsome Cain - ask any female in the audience at his question-and-answer session - shook his head in good-natured horror at the reminder.

Dean Cain has a way of making fans laugh with him and at him. Asked whether his Japanese ancestry ever posed a problem for him as an actor, he recounted how he laughed for 25 minutes after being cast as Superman when one fan wrote, "We wanted Superman, not Sushi-man."

But Cain is not all about laughs. Or even about entertainment. That's why his appearance has to be ranked among the best I have ever seen at any convention by an actor.

Supermegafest Updates

Supermegafest and Updates on Guests

I don't seem to remember seeing any posts on the upcoming Supermegafest Convention but since I personally know around 20+ people that are attending and that this may be the first con I have gone to in 4 years, I figured it was time to promote it.

The convention is held in Framingham, MA on November 17 & 18 and has guests Stan Lee, Dean Cain, Bruce Boxleitner, Kevin Sorbo, Dave Prowse, Avery Brooks, Sean Young, Deep Roy, and many more.  Just added a few minutes ago - Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead).

Stan Lee smashes The Hulk, predicts the future and remembers 'Insect Man'

A legendary one-two punch - Stan Lee and Spidey.

When it comes to comic book movies, it sometimes seems like we are living in Stan Lee's universe. The comics legend helped create Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Thor, to name just a few. And one of the small treats for seeing the Hollywood versions of the characters is that Lee usually has a cameo, including this summer's "The Avengers." But, as Lee recently told the audience at Fan Expo Canada, even he is not a big fan of some of the movies.

 "I would have liked the Hulk to be smaller in the first two movies, and I didn't like the way Doctor Doom was portrayed in 'Fantastic Four,' Now with Daredevil, they just wrote the whole thing wrong. They made him too tragic. That's not the way I wrote him. I think they're working on a new Daredevil movies and it will be better, so hold your judgment until then."

Lee also hinted about future film projects:

"Deadpool is such a popular character, I'd be surprised if he wasn't in his own movie in the near future, or introduced in another movie first. They're thinking about a Doctor Strange movie, a Black Panther movie, an Ant-Man movie -- there's just so many ideas in the works right now at Marvel!"

And he talked about a character that was an early idea for Spider-Man:

"When I created him, it was tough. We already had a Hulk, we already had the X-Men, we had the Fantastic Four, so I thought I'd go the insect route. But Insect-Man didn't sound right, and neither did Mosquito-Man. But then it came to me...Spider-Man! Happy 50th Spidey!"

Stan Lee launches new website

Spider-Man is Amazing.

The Hulk is Incredible.

But there's only one Stan Lee. The living legend of comic books - he created Spidey, Hulk, Daredevil, Thor, the Fantastic Four and others - this week launched his own website, The Real Stan Lee. The site made its debut Monday. Lee himself welcomed fans Tuesday with a question-and-answer session hosted by NBC and G4TV’s Alison Haislip.
