Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Ratings Drop For Week 2

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD ratings dropped pretty drastically from its debut episode.  The second episode got a rating of 8.4 million which was down quite a bit from the 11.9 it got last week for its debut episode.  Agents of SHIELD came in second not being able to beat NCIS which airs on CBS.  While this 30 percent drop is troubling a dropoff was expected but not this drastic.  It will be interesting if the numbers go up when the final figures are in and it is still early and but the 8.4 is still not bad considering there was a baseball playoff game last night between the Pirates and Reds and that the NHL hockey season started also.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Tooth and Claw By @BlackAdder345

Doctor Who:
Tooth and Claw
By Russell T. Davies
Reviewed By Will Barber - Taylor

"I saw last night that Great Britain has enemies beyond imagination, and we must defend our borders on all sides. I propose an Institute to investigate these strange happenings and to fight them. I would call it Torchwood. The Torchwood Institute. And if this Doctor should return, then he should beware, because Torchwood will be waiting."

Attempting to take Rose to see Ian Dury  perform at Sheffield in 1979, The Tardis instead takes them to Scotland 1879.  The Doctor and Rose accompany Queen Victoria and her guards to Torchwood House. The house has been taken over. The Doctor, Rose, Queen Victoria, Sir Robert Macliesh and his household are trapped by the local monks. The monks serve an alien werewolf who wants to infect Queen Victoria. The Doctor and Rose must stop the wolf from infecting Queen Victoria. If they fail, then the British Empire will become the Empire of The Wolf.

David Tennant masterfully plays The Doctor in this episode. His Doctor is very much going from strength to strength in this series. His energy in this episode is extraordinary.  The Doctor is in full control.  David’s energy and ability bring the script alive. For instance, a memorable scene is when The Doctor sees the Werewolf escaping and he ambiguously utters “Oh you’re beautiful,”  before promptly running off.  Tennant works perfectly in the traditional Doctor Who setting of a place under siege. His joy at being in this dangerous situation shows Tennant relishing his role of The Doctor, in other words, allowing his inner child to live the dreams of his youth.  As I have sprouted before in my New Earth review, David Tennant is a versatile actor who can play both The    Doctor of authority and The Doctor of childhood.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: New Earth

Doctor Who:
New Earth
By Russell T. Davies

“That's right. Hey, there we go, sweetheart. Go to him. Go on, that's it. That's it. It's a new sub-species, Cassandra. A brand new form of life. New humans! Look at them. Look! Grown by cats, kept in the dark, fed by tubes, but completely, completely alive. You can't deny them, because you helped create them. The human race just keeps on going, keeps on changing. Life will out! Ha!”

The Doctor takes Rose to the planet New Earth in the year 5 Billion. After looking around and taking in the sites The Doctor wants to visit the hospital that is just right outside the city.  He explains to Rose that he got a message on his psychic paper and he wants to see who sent it.  So the two travelers head to the hospital to see who summoned them and it turns out to be someone they have met before.

Unbeknownst to them their arrival to the New New York Hospital did not go unnoticed.  It appears someone else they have encountered before is alive and well and looking for a body.  The Lady Cassandra is still alive and wants to get revenge on Rose and find out what the big secret that the Sisters of Plentitude have hidden at the hospital.

Tom Clancy Author of Jack Ryan Books Has Died 1947 - 2013

Tom Clancy the man who has written espionage and thriller novels based on CIA Agent Jack Ryan has passed away at the age of 66 in Baltimore, Maryland.  He is best known for his books which have been made into a lot of movies with the best being The Hunt For Red October with Sean Connery and Patriot Games with Harrison Ford with a fifth movie due out next year with Star Treks Chris Pine in the role of Jack Ryan.

Tom Clancy has also gained a strong following with video games Rainbow Six, ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.  His new book will be released in December and is titled Command Authority.  His books are a favorite of mine and the story he weaves were all interesting and made you think.  He will be missed along with his works.

New York – October 1, 2013 – Announced today, BBC AMERICA will simulcast the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, in the U.S. on November 23, 2013. For the first time ever, the world’s longest running and most successful sci-fi series will be broadcast simultaneously to millions of viewers worldwide in a global simulcast.

On top of the worldwide TV broadcast, BBC AMERICA will announce in the coming weeks details of select 3D screenings of the anniversary episode in theatres in the U.S.

“Few TV shows can still lay claim to being appointment viewing but Doctor Who takes this to another level. In its 50th Anniversary year we wanted to create a truly international event for Doctor Who fans in as many countries as possible and the simultaneous broadcast and cinema screening of the special across so many countries will make for a fitting birthday tribute to our Time Lord,” states Tim Davie, CEO of BBC Worldwide.

Steven Moffat, Showrunner for Doctor Who and Executive Producer of the 50th Anniversary episode adds: “The Doctor has always been a time traveller - now he's travelling time zones. On the 23rd of November, it won't be the bad guys conquering the Earth - everywhere it will be The Day of the Doctor!”

In London, birthplace of the iconic series, the 50th Anniversary weekend will also see over 20,000 fans gather at the ExCel exhibition and convention centre for the official celebration event which will feature appearances from cast old and new including Matt Smith and former Doctors Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker and Tom Baker.

Doctor Who is BBC AMERICA’s highest rated series. Since 1963, Doctor Who has been one of the best loved dramas and certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful sci-fi series ever. The show has received numerous awards across its 50 years and has seen huge commercial success with over 10 million DVDs and 8 million action figures sold globally. BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the UK broadcaster distributes Doctor Who to over 200 territories across the world.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: The Christmas Invasion

Doctor Who:
The Christmas Invasion
By Russell T. Davies

“Here we are then, London. Earth. The Solar System. We did it. Jackie. Mickey. Blimey! No, no, no, no, hold on. Wait there. I've got something to say. There was something I had to tell you, something important. What was it? No, hold on, hold on. Hold on, shush, shush, shush, shush. Oh, I know! Merry Christmas!”

The TARDIS literally falls from the sky and crash lands next to Jackie and Mickey.  Out through the doors appears a confused and somewhat disorientated man.  The man wishes them a Merry Christmas and promptly faints.  Rose exits the TARDIS and tells them that this man indeed the Doctor, a recently regenerated Doctor.  After putting The Doctor to bed and making sure both his heartbeats are all right Rose and Mickey go to town and do some Christmas shopping.  Their presence is soon discovered and they are set to be attacked by four killer Santa’s.  The Santa’s use their musical instruments to cause distruction to the shopping area and Mickey and Rose make a close escape. As soon as they get back to Jackie’s apartment Rose is astonished to see a new Christmas tree.  Not as astonished as she is when the tree suddenly comes alive and tries to kill them.  Rose is able to get The Doctor awake just in a nick of time as he uses his sonic screw driver to destroy it and they discover there is a bigger threat before The Doctor slips back into a coma.

All this alien activity isn’t going unnoticed as UNIT and Prime Minister Harriot Jones are about to encounter the threat from space.  The Sycorax apparently have captured British unmanned space vehicle Guinevere One to communicate with British officials and to launch their invasion of Earth.  On board Guinevere One is a sample of blood in which the Sycorax use to hold 1/3 of Earths population hostage and under their control and in doing so have them on the roof of buildings awaiting a command to jump if their demands are not met.  It’s up to Rose to figure something out until The Doctor awakes from his slumber to save Earth once again.

10 Reasons to Watch the 10th Doctor

by Ken Parker

10 -Romance – Long term Doctor Who fans never dreamed of a romance between the Doctor and his companion (well, realistically anyhow) but Rose fell for the Doctor. This was probably an after thought that grew off of the great chemistry between Piper and Tennant and also fan feedback reading into the idea that their relationship was more than just two friends enjoying the time of their life. This chemistry lead to a very powerful farewell scene between the Doctor and Rose and if you can forget what would happen later on, was one of the best moments in the current series. This is one of those examples of fans thinking there is a relationship going on when there really isn't but the producers decide to make it happen.
