Doctor Who - England and South Korea World Tour Pics

The Doctor Who World Tour is in Sydney Australia today but over the weekend and last week the tour got started in England with stops in Cardiff where it kicked off and London and then it  headed to Seoul South Korea.  the trip will continue with stops in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and New York City this week.

New Season 8 title Sequence Leaked - SPOILERS

SPOILERS - if you think the start credits are spoilers then stop reading -

Doctor Who season 8 has a new title sequence that is much different than recent years.  Expect to see more clocks and gears and some new music that is sure to create some discussion (I think it is good from what I can tell).  Capaldi makes an appearance in the opening and while this opening looks a bit odd compared to the usual time vortex trip, it is interesting and has a thumbs up from me.  If you want to see it you can wait a few weeks or just look around for it but don't expect it to remain online for much longer.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Review: What Were You Expecting?

From left to right are ... oh, forget it.

Read the marquee above the theater entrance very carefully before you enter. If it says "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," well, that's what you can expect.

For the most part, that's a good thing.

The "heroes in a half shell" are back in action with a new movie and an old plot: The Foot Clan is on the loose and who are you going to call? That's right - Shredder is making life difficult for the residents of New York City. To the rescue are Splinter and his adopted, mutated sons - Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael.

Oh, and Megan Fox. As reporter April O'Neil, Fox does what does she best. I'm just not quite sure what that might be. I don't think it's acting, certainly nothing past Acting 101. She's joined by Will Arnett, who provides mild comic relief. The lone standout human actor is William Fichtner, who - MILD SPOILER ALERT - plays The Bad Guy Behind The Bad Guy (Shredder).

So I called it that DC would move to April or June and they are moving to March. Good call for DC.  This movie needs to be a big movie and it has to be good.

I left the original dates for the DC films but it would appear that the new untitled dates are for Shazam, Wonder Woman, etc.  So the August 2016 date is probably Shazam and June 2017 might be Wonder Woman, staying away from Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Who knows at this point but there are more films in the list and so Cyclops, Aquaman and other possibilities are there.  We could also see Justice League move away from that Marvel title so that could be now set for July 2017.

Marvel is doing everything right and DC has not.  Sure, DC has just come off a monster Batman trilogy, but that is starting to seem like ancient history now.  Marvel is even toying with (or joking about) bringing back one of their massive failures of the past and would no doubt make a success of it now!!!  Marvel will at some point screw up but nobody is thinking it is going to happen in the next few years.

DC has something to prove and they have not gotten to the point where they can boast all these untitled films and expect people to get excited.  They need to give us their Iron Man or Captain America or Avengers version for DC first, then they can talk!

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Review - NO SPOILERS

We have a guest reviewer today with his insights of the new Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thank you for that in depth review Groot.

I have to agree that the film is highly enjoyable and uplifting to the Nth degree.  The film certainly lives up to the expectations and feelings that other reviewers have noted of being reminded of their childhood and comparing to films that they absolutely fell in love with when they were kids.  The film is not so tied into the Marvel Universe that you have to know what is going on.  You can enjoy it no matter what.  Also I was surprised on how little connection to the existing Marvel story line exists.  Still, if you want to find out more background information there is a great list that you can read before or after watching the film that will help explain some things.

I also agree with Groot that the film stands on its own but it is good to see some of that connection with the appearance of Thanos and the talk of the Infinity Stones.  Beyond that the film has great action, music and excellent characters that unlike The Avengers, had only one movie and two hours to develop.  The chemistry and character interaction is excellent throughout the film and like all good films, is front and center no matter what is going on.  Everything is from
effects to editing is certainly up to what we would expect from a Marvel product.

Groot certainly feels that a sequel is warranted and yes, there is one planned for 2017.  The film leaves you wanting to see more of these characters, even the bad guys.  Just a related note, as this is a Doctor Who blog site, Karen Gillan was excellent in the part of Nebula in this movie.  In the past I have criticized some of her acting in Doctor Who but she certainly came through in this movie and it is good to see a Doctor Who alumni make the big time.

I won't go into any further detail of the film, Groot did this so elegantly, but the film has so much to offer and its universe is so well realized that it reminds me of the original Star Wars in its scope.  Not to say Guardians is as good as Star Wars but it reminded me of that same feeling of watching that film.  That is very awesome!!  It is a film that I want to see again right away and for me, that is rare these days.

'Guardians of the Galaxy:' Angry Fans Walk Out of Theater

Who were you expecting?

They had a good reason to walk out, though. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, a Regal Cinemas in Virginia on Thursday showed the opening of the 2012 film "Rise of the Guardians."

And not just once.

According to audience member Dean Browell, he and others sat through 15 minutes of previews and five minutes of the animated 2012 film before an employee emerged to apologize.

The audience sat through the same 15 minutes of previews again, he said, only to have "Rise" reappear on the screen. The theater then offered tickets to a later 3D showing.

Browell and others, including his 10-year-old daughter, waited out the snafu. After 10 minutes of waiting, the audience's hopes were raised by some different previews.

Then it happened again. Yes, "Rise of the Guardians" came on the screen for the third time. The angry crowd responded with loud expletives.

"It was now 9:15 p.m., from an 8 p.m. movie," Browell told The Reporter. "Those left in the theater stormed out and then joined a line 50-people long trying to get their money back, anything. We were so disappointed."

Michael Keaton returning as Batman, er, I mean Birdman!
