Marvel vs. DC - Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman, Death of Superman, Flash, Suicide Squad and the problem with Female Superheroes

This imaginary battle is heating up both on TV and in movies. While DC has been sluggish in getting going, Marvel is hitting the target with The Avengers: Age of Ultron. DC is fairing better on TV but Marvel is gaining some momentum.

A relatively slow period before The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits the big screens in a couple of months.  I can't imagine that a new trailer would make me want to see this movie more than before.

DC vs. Marvel - DC is Winning! On Television, that is.

On Television that is.   Yes, I know, DC has usually done fairly well on TV, this is nothing new but they are kicking butt big time right now.  I have been critical of DC’s vision for their movie franchise and probably unfairly.  Their recent Batman movies were excellent but they have done little else.  Meanwhile Marvel is so far ahead of them in terms of their plans that by the time DC’s first phase kicks into high gear, Marvel will be in its third phase.  It is not that DC is doing it wrong (Man of Steel was a misstep for sure) the problem is that it’s taking time getting going. Not true for Television - DC is doing everything right - in my opinion.

It's Geek To Me: Jay Garrick, Barry Allen and not Flash Gordon

One of these things is not like the other.

This is the first installment in an occasional series on how reality sometimes intrudes on geekiness ... or maybe the other way around.

I attended a presentation at work on Friday. The subject is not important. At the end, my boss held up a small toy figurine and said, "We're just as fast as Flash Gordon." He said he wanted critiques on the presentation, so I approached him afterward.

Me: "That's not Flash Gordon. That's the Flash. There's a big difference."

Him: "Well, it's the original Flash from the comics."

Me: "No it's not. It's the Barry Allen Flash. The original Flash was Jay Garrick."

Him: Long stare.

I'm guessing it's a good thing that I did not mention Wally West.
