Leonard Nimoy Mr Spock of Star Trek Has Passed Away

Leonard Nimoy who played the character Mr. Spock on Star Trek has died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease today in Los Angeles.  He was 83.  Leonard Nimoy will be forever known as the iconic Star Trek character from Vulcan.  He first played Mr. Spock in the 60's (1966 to 1969) on the original TV show.  He would then reprise his role in the 70's and 80's in the Star Trek movies appearing in six movies with the original cast.  He would also come back and pass the torch in the Star Trek reboot sharing scenes with the new Spock Zachary Quinto in 2009 and 2013.  He also appeared in the TV show Fringe and that show would be one of his last TV works.

When you think of Star Trek you think of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock.  Those are the first things that come to mind and now the universe will be a poorer place now that Leonard Nimoy is no longer in it. Live Long and Prosper Leonard Nimoy on your new journey.

Nichelle Nichols - Lt. Uhura from the original "Star Trek" series - recently told The Huffington Post about her audition:

"They gave me a three-page script to read from that had three characters named Bones, Kirk and somebody called Spock, and they asked me if I would read for the role of Spock. When I looked at this great text, I said to myself, 'I'll take any one of these roles,' but I found the Spock character to be very interesting, and I asked them to tell me what she [Spock] was like."

Leonard Nimoy says farewell to 'Star Trek' universe at convention

The "final frontier" for "Star Trek" actor Leonard Nimoy came Sunday in Rosemont, Ill.

There, the man who brought sci fi icon Mr.Spock to life on the original television series in the 1960s attended what he has said will be his last convention.

His final con appearance began with a surprise video assembled by Creation Entertainment featuring all seven of the main stars of Star Trek (2009) and director JJ Abrams sharing memories and good wishes to their costar. Perhaps the best moment was Karl Urban doing his best Dr. McCoy during his tribute. When Leonard Nimoy took to the stage, the audience cheered its own good wishes for the actor who was very much the heart of Star Trek.

Live long and retire: Leonard Nimoy calling it quits from conventions

Leonard Nimoy has officially announced that he will retire from convention appearances after two more shows in Las Vegas and Chicago.

Or three.

As Mr. Spock might say, "fascinating."

It starts with Creation Entertainment issuing a press release by email that stated, in part:

For us at Creation it is indeed a bittersweet day as Leonard’s on-stage talks have always been a highlight for us and they remain in our memories forever. We’ll never forget his original talks on being Mr. Spock, his on-stage appearances with William Shatner, his live Alien Voices shows with John de Lancie, and later his ceremonial passing of the baton to the amazingly talented young Zachary Quinto. Through it all Leonard has been extremely gracious and caring to both us and his legions of fans. Simply stated it has been a joy to meet someone we grew up with loving on television and film and then finding out he was even nicer than we could have hoped. A growing up memory that was actually exceeded by reality: that never happens but all things are possible with the magic that has been working with Mr. Nimoy.
