The Boys From Red Dwarf Are Back!!!!

Great news for Red Dwarf fans.  At the Sci-Fi Scarborough convention on Saturday during a Red Dwarf panel news came down that production on the 11th series of Red Dwarf has been confirmed and will go into production in October of this year with a possible air date in the fall of 2015.  No word yet on the amount of episodes but if you are a fan of Red Dwarf get ready for 2015 and a new series on Dave.

Grant Naylor Working On Red Dwarf XI Scripts

It's looking like Red Dwarf XI might be one step closer to being reality.  Digital Spy is reporting that Grant Naylor is already working on scripts for the next series of Red Dwarf. They were talking with Danny John-Jules who let it out that the scripts were being worked on to avoid time constraints that Naylor faced while writing Red Dwarf X.  Here are his quotes.

"I spoke to Doug the other day, and I know he's already writing outlines," John-Jules said. "Even though the contracts aren't signed, he knows because of the last series [that he needs a head start], because he was under real pressure."

"Directing, writing, producing, and then locations get moved out, actors drop out, and suddenly it's like, 'Well, we've got ten pages that can be filmed and I've got to rewrite four scripts'.

"He doesn't want to be caught like that again, so he's already writing outlines. Well, or scripts - Doug doesn't really do outlines, he just writes a whole script, and then diddles with it."

Hands up who else is missing Red Dwarf already?

Considering some shows reprisals have been disastrous, the brave step taken to relaunch this much loved series was a gamble that's paid off. Having Doug Naylor at the helm has helped keep the shows originality and distinct style, without its characters and story lines becoming stale.

So there it is, the final episode of Red Dwarf X. I hope I'm not the only one to think this series went rather too quickly. I have to admit, I was a little concerned about the title. As those of you who have watched from the start, you'll be aware of the pilot episode being called "The End". So, naming this episode "The Beginning" did make me rather worried. With the success of this series I am hoping there are plenty more adventures to come.

This episode has been one that has been advertised a lot in Britain, so expectation was high for this one. As the series has progressed the team have got more cohesive and a lot more classic style stories have emerged. This one certainly promised to not disappoint.....

What a lovely pair they both have!

The Red Dwarf team have met many people throughout their travels in space, some more famous than others. Some controversial encounters such as meeting Hitler could have caused a lot of outrage. Luckily, the humour of the show has made certain sensitive situations light hearted and very funny.

Religion has also been a regularly revisited subject in Red Dwarf history. Again, great writing and brilliant delivery of the lines has made a sensitive subject very amusing without being offensive.

So it was only a matter of time before this guy made an apperance:

Lister: "Jesus!"

Am I the only one on this planet who misses Holly like crazy?

Lister has toothache but instead of getting it fixed he does the sensible thing and gets drunk. As he is his own father he films himself drunk so his sober 'son' can make something of himself. As he knows sober 'son' Lister will rebel his 'father' resigns himself from the Space Corps overnight, resulting in him being ejected out into space. With me so far?

The gang really aren't getting on with the new ships computer, she's almost like a gothic version of Queeg. She's smart, sassy....and so logically insane she decides to plot a course for Red Dwarf to drive into the nearest sun and prevents the crew from getting near her controls to shut her down. Luckily she didn't bank on Lister (who's Jet pack gets him back on board) registering his 'son' as an extra crew member with the medical computer so as he was the only registered crew member on board and as he is his son (Yep, still confused?) he has permission to shut her down and save the day!

 I think overall it was a good idea for the writers to play around again with the ships computer. Although Pree was easy on the eye I felt she really didn't get much screen time compared to Queeg to really develop her character more. I would love however, to see Holly return back to his/her rightful place.

I liked the episode bringing back the slightly confusing concept of Lister being his own father, which is a nice bit of continuity from the seventh series episode Ouroboros. Looking into the characters backgrounds in more depth is something Doug Naylor was very keen to introduce into this series, and by injecting a good quantity of the now famous Red Dwarf humour to the mix helps make any tragic past somewhat hilarious.

The team are certainly getting back into the swing of things with their on screen banter getting stronger with each scene. I liked the Music when they were in danger as it was so similar to a Doctor Who score, I couldn't help but smile as they were subtly making fun of it! So overall another good episode. Next week; Romans and Jesus!

Again we waited for a much loved show to return to our screens, and last night Red Dwarf X's first episode was broadcast. All the promotions and press releases promised it would be going back to a live studio audience, and would have a lot more of the clever and slap stick humour synonymous with the show.

 "This is an S.O.S. distress call from the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak. The only survivors are Dave Lister, who was in suspended animation during the disaster, and his pregnant cat, who was safely sealed in the hold. Revived three million years later, Lister's only companions are a life-form who evolved from his cat, and Arnold Rimmer, a hologram simulation of one of the dead crew. Message ends."

It only seems like yesterday that Red Dwarf came to life. The show itself was born from a 1980's radio show Dave Hollins: space Cadet which writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor created. Both writers were heavily influenced by the fantastic Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy, Alien and Silent Running to name but a few. Having both worked on the funny and satirical Spitting Image they put all these elements together and the Red Dwarf concept was born in 1983.

Dave has released the first promotional picture from the new series of Red Dwarf.
Red Dwarf X will return later this year on Dave and I have to say that I am looking forward to watching it again.

Red Dwarf Make Up Test Video "It Is Coming Back. Hurray!!!"

The TV Channel Dave released a video of a make up test for the beginning of production on Red Dwarf 10. It will return in 2012 most likely towards the end of the year. This is indeed great news for all of us Smeg Heads out there. Here is the announcement and video from the Dave website.
