Doctor Who - The Crimson Horror Review (Mild Spoilers)

Review by Ken Parker

There does appear to be an attempt to create Doctor Who episodes this season that have a classic taste to them. Every episode this half season has been pretty basic without tons of layered gimmicks of hidden Easter eggs and over the top complexity. “The Crimson Horror” was going to be the story to break up the five in a row of pretty good stories, at least based on the trailer. Can I say that it did not and we are now working on six in a row of quality stories – well done writers of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who - Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS Review (TARDIS Spoilers)

Doctor Who:
Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS
By Steven Thompson

“Red flashing light means something bad.”

So far we are half way through the remaining eight stories of Series 7 and so far it has been a mixed batch.  There was one I loved in Cold War and one I detest in The RIngs of Akhaten while The Bells of Saint John and Hide entertained me and for the most part I enjoyed.  So now we have Sherlock scribe Steven Thompson’s turn with Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS.   Will this story be on the positive side or will I deduce that it isn’t very good at.  I’m on the case and read on to see my findings.

Doctor Who - The Rings of Akhaten Review (Spoilers)

Doctor Who:
The Rings of Akhaten
By Neil Cross

“We Don’t Walk Away”

The Doctor asks Clara where she wants to go and she replies that she wants to go somewhere awesome.  So he takes her to The Rings of Akhaten which is part of a seven planet solar system and the species believe all life started on a small planet in their system.  The pair goes on to explore the marketplace and Clara is exposed to all sorts of different alien races.  Clara meets a young girl named Merry who is the Queen of Years and she is afraid of singing a song to the Grandfather.  Clara convinces her to go back and do what she has to and that everything will be fine. But everything isn’t fine as Merry makes a mistake with the song and the gods are angry and The Doctor and Clara must come up with a way to save Merry and everyone else on Akhaten.

After the good start to the continuation of Series 7 with “The Bells of Saint John”  we are treated to “The Rings of Akhaten” by Doctor Who newcomer Neil Cross who is in fact the creator and head writer for the crime series Luther.  A highly critical acclaimed series and one of the BBC’s top shows and one that is really good in my opinion.   So now he turns his attention to science fiction and more importantly to Doctor Who. Will his story for Series 7 be a good one or should it be booked for bad television.

Having run down corridors from every monster imaginable, Matt Smith returns as the Doctor to face old and new foe. But he’s not alone. Along for the ride in his brand new TARDIS is the Doctor’s latest companion, Clara Oswald. Here Matt talks about what he is looking forward to from the epic new series.

I think it is going to be very exciting to introduce Clara to the world and Steven has hit a real vein of form, explains Matt as he chats enthusiastically about the new series.

Along with a new costume this series, the Doctor has a new TARDIS to travel through space and time. Walking on to the new TARDIS was like the first day at school, explains Matt. I actually found it quite difficult as I had got so used to the rhythm of acting on the old one, where I used to slide about on the glass floor, but Michael Pickwoad has done a fabulous job, he continues. This one is more like a machine.
