Beverly Hills, Calif. (July 1, 2014) – Starz has announced a script to series development of FremantleMedia North America’s (FMNA) adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed urban fantasy novel “American Gods.” The pilot script will be penned by Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Heroes”) and Michael Green (“The River,” “Kings,” “Heroes”), who will also showrun the series. They will executive produce along with Gaiman. FremantleMedia North America will produce the series.

Once it was announced that Neil Gaiman was going to write another episode for Doctor Who I was happy at the news and couldn’t wait to see it.  Now when it was announced that his story was going to feature The Cybermen, well, I was even more eager to see that episode and when the airdate was announced I circled it on the calendar.  Now you see The Cybermen are my favorite villains in Doctor Who and the prospect of seeing them getting a new take by Neil Gaiman filled me with delight that hopefully The Cybermen will be given justice and done right.

Now everyone loves The Doctor’s Wife and it was such a wonderful story and one of the best in the Matt Smith era so the expectations are high this time around for Neil Gaiman.  So will Nightmare In Silver be heralded as one of the best Cybermen stories like Earthshock or will it be really lousy like Silver Nemesis.  Read on to see what I thought.

Joseph Gordon - Levitt To Produce A Film For Neil Gaiman's Sandman

The popular comic book character The Sandman will soon be getting the movie treatment.  The comic book by Neil Gaiman started in 1988 and finished in 1996 with a couple of original graphic novels a Death spin off and now is back in a mini series which is a prelude to the original series.

Joseph Gordon - Levitt has signed on to produce and possibly direct and star in the film.  He has joined David Goyer who was involved with the Batman and Superman movies that have come out lately.  It appears that they might be doing the first storyline as is hinted with this hashtag in the tweets announcement #Prelude.  Prelude is the first story in which Morpheus escapes imprisonment and goes after those involved and extracting his revenge.  If that is true fans should read Preludes and Nocturnes the first volume in the trade paperback collection.

Probably one of the most anticipated stories of series, that isn't a series opener or closer, was The Doctor’s Wife mainly for the person who wrote it. When I heard the news in 2011 that Neil Gaiman was writing an episode of Doctor Who I was pretty amazed that someone of his talents would want to write for Doctor Who. As most people know Neil Gaiman is the writer of such movies as Beowulf, Coraline, and Stardust.  But to his fans he is most recognized for his work on the incredibly popular The Sandman.  The Sandman is a 75 issue comic book story about Morpheus which was published by Vertigo an imprint of DC Comics.

The Doctor's Wife boasted that something from The War Games would be coming back.  Well we have our answer in the appearance of the Time Lord Hypercube.  You remember that device that the Second Doctor used to contact the Time Lords for help.  Well it's back and there are quite a lot of them too.  This must come as a disappointment to those fans who speculated that the War Chief was coming back.  But I have to say it was a good plot device to get the Doctor to come to the planet that has the House entity.

Neil Gaiman Writes The 11th Doctor Story For Doctor Who 50th Anniversary eBook

Neil Gaiman has been revealed as the final author for the 50th Anniversary eBook range.  Nothing O'Clock is the title for the 11th Doctor story that finishes the story.  All the stories will be collected in a print version and be available later this month on the 21st the same day that the 11th Doctor eStory will be released.  Here is the quote by Neil Gaiman and the synopsis for the story.

"Nothing O’Clock stars the Eleventh Doctor, the Matt Smith Doctor, with Amy Pond as his companion. I set it somewhere during the first season of Matt Smith, mostly on Earth, in our time now and in 1984, but also somewhere else, a very, very long time ago. I had never created an original monster for Doctor Who and really enjoyed getting to create a creepy Doctor Who monster of the kind that we haven’t quite seen before… I hope that the Kin will get out there and occasionally give people nightmares. And that you will be worried if a man in a rabbit mask comes to your door and tries to buy your house."

Thousands of years ago, Time Lords built a Prison for the Kin. They made it utterly impregnable and unreachable. As long as Time Lords existed, the Kin would be trapped forever and the universe would be safe. They had planned for everything… everything, that is, other than the Time War and the fall of Gallifrey. Now the Kin are free again and there’s only one Time Lord left in the universe who can stop them!

Neil Gaiman Talks Doctor Who and Nightmare In Silver

Neil Gaiman participated in a press call on Wednesday, which I was fortunate to attend, to talk about his upcoming story “Nightmare in Silver”.  Since his call was loaded with spoilers I found it safer to post this after the story aired.   We found out a lot like William Hartnell's Doctor scared him as a kid, He really enjoys writing for Doctor Who and that Patrick Troughton is his favorite Doctor.  Here are some of the highlights from that press call.

First off he explains how the story a Nightmare In Silver came about.

  

Well, they began - the entire episode began with an email from Steven Moffat which was a sequence of emails. The first one saying, you know, would I like to write another Doctor Who episode following on from “The Doctor’s Wife?” And me writing back and saying I really didn’t have time and life was just completely mental and I was sorry.

 And I remember Moonbase, the second outing I think it was of the Cybermen. I didn’t see the first one but the second one, Moonbase, I saw and I was terrified of them. I was much more scared of them in a way that I was the Daleks because they were sort of quiet and they slipped in and out of rooms and it was such a - very off putting.

And then him writing back and saying, you know, if I could find time somehow, he’d really like it if I made the Cybermen scary again. And that one got to me because when I was a kid, I was a huge Patrick Troughton fan. Patrick Troughton was my Doctor.

Doctor Who - Nightmare in Silver Review - (Some Spoilers)

Sometimes you look forward to things so much that there is no way they will ever reach those bloated expectations. Look at the facts. Despite some fan opinion that this last half of season 7 has been sub par, the stories have been more focused and paced. The stories, for the most part, have concentrated on the Doctor and Clara and their involvement in their adventure and less about an upcoming deadly danger or secrets being kept by some annoying winking woman or who is really the Doctor. The stories have been stand alone and enjoyable. I attribute this to the writing, the acting and the chemistry that has been given time to develop between the Doctor and Clara, the best Doctor, Companion duo since the 10^th Doctor and Rose.

Radio Times has an interview up with Neil Gaiman and he gives a pretty good description of his new Doctor Who story Nightmare in Silver.

First he gives a brief synopsis of the story.

The Doctor has been talked by Clara into taking the two kids she looks after, Artie and Angie, for an excursion, a day out, and he decides to take them to Hedgewick's World, the biggest, best and most wonderful amusement park in the galaxy, a quarter of a million years in the future, because he has a golden ticket and it gets four people in for free, gets you free ice creams and it gets you to the front of any line, which is great because the lines for the Spacey Zoomer can go on for weeks. And that's where it starts.

Unfortunately, it also starts with them discovering that Hedgewick's World has been closed for several years and there's almost nobody on it now except for a small army troop on manoeuvres and a mad old showman named Mr Webley who landed his spaceship there after it closed and is now there with a Cyberman that plays chess. That's where it begins. This is also 1,000 years after the end of the big human/Cyberman war – where we won.

He also gives a description of the characters that will be in the story.

Jason Watkins plays Mr Webley, this wonderful, slightly alcoholic old showman touring the universe with a waxworks and a chess-playing Cyberman. Warwick Davis is his henchman, who is called Porridge. He's affable, sweet and helps Webley and cannot wait to get off this planet.

Tamzin Outhwaite is a captain named Alice Ferren who's in charge of the platoon doing troop exercises on an abandoned amusement park planet and as we discover, as the story goes on, it's actually a punishment platoon. They're all people who've got into trouble. She was sent there for disobeying orders. They're not the kind of crack troop you'd want if it so happened that a Cyberman moves in – a new model Cyberman that we haven't seen, who is absolutely lethal and hyper-intelligent.

Neil Gaiman Confirms Doctor Who Episode Title

Neil Gaiman has revealed the title to his Cyberman story in an interview with themusic.com .  This story comprises the next part of series 7 and will be the next to last story.  Here is his quote and the title of his story.

"The episode is called The Last Cyberman.” Pushed for more information, Gaiman responds, “It’s about identity, it’s about responsibility and it’s about porridge.”

"I can tell you that there are Cybermen in it. It will be a stand-alone episode, I don't know if it will be number twelve or thirteen. It will be the series' penultimate episode. But it has a beginning, a middle and an end... Steven [Moffat] wrote to me and asked if I wanted to make the Cybermen scary again. I thought back to myself at the age of six or seven, The Moonbase, Tomb of the Cybermen… I saw them when they were first broadcast. The Cybermen were much scarier than the Daleks, because they didn't make any noise. The Daleks moved around all over the place shouting "Exterminate", etc. With the Cybermen, it's different. You turn around and bam! There they are. It's scary. I told him that I was going to take the Cybermen from the sixties […] and see what I could do. I don't know if it's going to work, we'll see."

This is absolutely the best news I have heard from Doctor Who in a while. Finally an episode I am looking forward to!!

New Look Cybermen Pictures From Neil Gaiman's Story (Spoilerish)

Neil Gaiman's Doctor Who Story Heralds The Cybermen's Return

The BBC have announced today that Neil Gaiman's Series 7 story will have the Cybermen as the main baddie.  The episode also has a good crew of guest stars that play a band of misfits on a mysterious planet.  The guest stars playing the misfits are Warwick Davis, Tamzin Outhwaite and Jason Watkins and of course a bunch of Cybermen.

This is pretty cool news and hopefully Neil Gaiman can make the Cybermen more relavent again something that hasn't happened since Earthshock.  You can read the official BBC press release at this link.

The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed the writers and directors for the second half of series 7.  Plus it is also confirmed that Neil Gaiman's story will indeed be in the second half of series 7.

Neil Gaiman To Write Another Doctor Who Episode For Series 7 or 8

At last nights Hugo Awards Neil Gaiman in his acceptance speech announced that he is writing another episode of Doctor Who for Series 7 or 8.  Here is the quote from when he accepted the award on stage last night.
