Another New Trailer For X-Men Days of Future Past

The third trailer gives us a bigger glimpse into the type of story that we will be treated to next month.  It has the same theme as the original comic book but it sure looks like it will be an epic visual experience also.

2013 was an ok year for movies, TV and Comic Books and was really an off year.  A lot of disappointment’s and lots of movies and shows that did not live up to the hype.  2013 could be considered a down year, in my opinion it is, and 2014 looks a lot better.  So without further ado here is what I am looking forward to in 2014.

Trade Paperback Review

With the prospect of the next X-men movie being the classic story (that’s what I’ve been told by those X – Men experts) so I went out and bought the trade paperback in which this story is collected and thought I would give it a read to get a hint of what the movie would be about.    The trade collects Uncanny X-Men 138 – 143 and Annual 4 of the original run of the book that was published in 1980 and 1981.  I really enjoy 80’s comics as that era is a favorite of mine and there are a lot of good stories and well it was a time where the big two did not reboot series and start everything over every so many years. 

This collection is written by long time X-Men scribe Chris Claremont and is responsible for many stories that have lasted the test of time like the Dark Phoenix storyline and of course Days of Future Past.  On art duties is one of my favorite artists John Byrne who I became a fan of during his run on Fantastic Four from the mid 80’s to early 90’s.

Halle Berry returning as Storm for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'

There's a storm in the movie forecast.

The X-Men franchise continues to get the old gang back together.

Add Halle Berry to the growing list of actors returning to the movie series for "X-Men: Days of Future Past," according to a report by Deadline.

She will join Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart from the original movie in the upcoming sequel to the prequel (got that?), "X-Men: First Class."

The cast for the next X-Men movie, which features a story about X-Men from the past meeting X-Men from the present (Days of Future Past) is growing to include many more characters from both time periods.  Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pride) and Shawn Rashmore (Iceman) are joining Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and Patrick Stewart (Professor X) in reprising their roles for this temporal crossover story that sounds like it will be very crowded and potentially story hurting (IMHO).

Bryan Singer has confirmed the news on his twitter account that Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine for the next X - Men movie.  He will be joining Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen who will be reprising their roles as well. Plus Bryan Singer is promising more surprises and this movie looks that it will be true to the original comic book story.

Sir's Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan Confirmed For X-Men: Days of Futures Past

Director Bryan Singer announced yesterday on Twitter that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan will be reprising their X-Men roles of Professor Xavier and Magneto. The next movie is a based on the 1981 comic story Days of Futures Past which have scenes that takes place in the future and this casting makes sense based on that storyline.

Days of future past, indeed.

Director Bryan Singer is returning to the "X-Men" movie franchise, Entertainment Weekly confirmed Tuesday. Singer, who was at the helm for "X-Men" (2000) and "X2" (2002) replaces Matthew Vaughn, who directed "X-Men: First Class," after Vaughn exited the director's chair for unknown reasons.

Singer left the X-franchise to direct "Superman Returns" in 2006. He was, however, involved in "X-Men: First Class" as a producer and received a "story by" credit for the script, which traced the origin of the mutant superheroes.

"Days of Future Past" is expected to involve time-travel, meaning characters from the original movie series, such as Patrick Stewart, could appear alongside his earlier self, James McAvoy, as Professor X.

Unless you have a time machine, you'll have to wait to find out. The movie is due in theaters on July 18, 2014.

X-Men movie "Days of Future Past" to unite characters from both series?

"Vulcan mind meld? No, wait, that's the wrong movie franchise."

Maybe you liked the original set of X-Men movies, led by Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier.

Or maybe you preferred the cast of characters from last year's "X-Men: First Class."

Why can't we have both - a crossover between X-Men and, well, X-Men? Maybe we can.

The latest piece of evidence - we prefer that phrase to "rumor" - comes from Famke Janssen, who portrayed Jean Gray/Phoenix in the first set of movies. In a recent interview with MTV, she discussed the chances of her reprising the role:

"One never knows. Jean Grey, the Phoenix ... she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows ... I have no idea. Stay tuned."

Need another rumor ... er, more evidence? How about an IGN Movies interview with producer and director Brian Singer? He confirmed that the sequel to "First Class" will be called "Days of Future Past" (as reported on this blog previously). If ever a title cried out "Hey! Over here! We're talking time travel!" - this is it. Singer teased about the possibility:

"I think there's a strong desire to broaden out the universe. I mean, the X-Men universe is every bit on its own as big as the Marvel universe. I think it's time to reach out and explore it and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films, as Marvel has done so well."

Want more? How about some telepathic messages from Professor X himself? Well, we have to assume he was sending out telepathic messages, because the afore-mentioned Stewart did not say anything out loud when asked about a return to the wheelchair. According to the Comic Book Blog podcast, one of its regulars waited on Stewart at an Apple store and inquired, "so ... another X-Men movie?" Stewart nodded.

So it must be true!

X-Men: First Class Sequel To Be X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer has confirmed to IGN that the next X-Men movie will be based on the Chris Claremont and John Bryne classic 1981 X-Men story from Uncanny X-Men 141 and 142.  For X-Men fans this is pretty good news as this story is one of the greatest in X-Men history.  Here is a quote from Bryan Singer:

"It's going to be very ambitious," Singer told IGN.com. "It's called 'Days of Future Past.' It deals with aspects of that comic, but also some very new things -- I just don't want to give any of it away."

I think there's a strong desire to broaden out the universe," he said. "I mean, the X-Men Universe is every bit, on its own, as big as the Marvel Universe, and I think it's time to reach out and explore it, and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films -- as Marvel has done so well."

Anyway this movie promises to be a good one and it will be interesting to see how they adapt it for the X-Men: First Class Marvel Universe.
