The Doctor and Clara are visiting a haunted house but not all is what it seems. There is a ghost but is it really a ghost? Is the Doctor really there to see a ghost or does he have another reason? Yet again we have a story with limited number of characters in a fairly simple setting. Newcomer to Doctor Who, Neil Cross (“The Rings of Akhaten”), is at it again with a fairly straight forward story that becomes more than a ghost story.

So can Doctor Who's second half of season 7 build upon some stability of excellent stories and less frazzled mayhem that plagued season 6? The Christmas special – The Snowmen did have some great ideas and moments but the series appears to never want to stop expressing its political and social opinions while also having the need to tell us what to think and not allow its viewers to do it for themselves. Having characters literally facing the camera and telling us that the Doctor is great, traveling with the Doctor is dangerous and that aliens and strange happenings, even in Victorian years is okay and most people are fine with it no matter what is not what I want to see in Doctor Who. Allow me to think for myself and enjoy the adventures without constantly being told with winks and nudges all the time. One criticism of old Who was it took itself too seriously but new Who seems to be full of itself.

Anyhow, despite the attempt to make Doctor Who self indulgent and almost an advert for the series itself, the show seems to be trying to make some good stories and Asylum of the Daleks, The Angels Take Manhattan and to a degree A Town Called Mercy all were pretty good and The Snowmen had Jenna Louise Coleman and Matt Smith in an excellent chemistry mix that overshadowed the biting snowflakes and ludicrously mishandled Vastra and Jenny.

Hopefully this second half of the season will improve it's good story count.  Does The Bells of Saint John add to the good count?

Doctor Who Episodes Could Be Limited in 2013

According to a merchandise banner on display at the BBC's table at the London Toy Fair, Doctor Who will air the remainder 8 episodes of this season and then the 50th Anniversary in the fall.  There is no mention of a Christmas special nor any season 8 airing at all in 2013.  To top this off, the anniversary special is 60 minutes long and not a season long celebration as hoped.    The Banner also mentions the docu-drama and 11 other documentary specials.

Now the banner does say "To Include" and so there may be more to be announced but if that is it then this anniversary may not be as big as originally thought.

Doctor Who Season 7 America Debut Date September 8?

There is some confusion out there on when the latest season of Doctor Who will air on BBC America.  Early  thought was that it would air the same day as in the UK - September 1.  A keen eyed fan spotted a BBC America commercial that stated the date was September 8.  This has caused an uproar with fans as BBC America has yet to officially announce their date.  Some say the ad is fake (which it isn't).  So it is possible BBC America aired the ad by mistake or that the add was in error.  Either way, the official announcement should be this week.
