Marvel vs. DC - Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman, Death of Superman, Flash, Suicide Squad and the problem with Female Superheroes

This imaginary battle is heating up both on TV and in movies. While DC has been sluggish in getting going, Marvel is hitting the target with The Avengers: Age of Ultron. DC is fairing better on TV but Marvel is gaining some momentum.

Read more about Gotham, Flash, Arrow, Suicide Squad, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman vs. Superman and Agents of SHIELD.  We also see that Marvel is not perfect.

Marvel is Thinking About a Black Widow Movie

Marvel continues to flood the market with their superhero films and this is a good thing, at least right now. Marvel president Kevin Feige stated that a female superhero movie is needed for the franchise and why not Black Widow.  Potentially starring Scarlet Johansson, this film seems logical and would no doubt be another huge hit.

No official green light has been given but Marvel is certainly considering a movie that will provide more back story for Natalia Romanova and perhaps how she became Black Widow.

At least one member of The Avengers will appear in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is teaming up with the title character, according to Deadline. Details are sketchy - as in nonexistent. Stay tuned.

In other "Winter Soldier" news, Deadline reports that five acrtresses are in the running for the female lead role - Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Alison Brie and Imogen Poots. The best guess is that the role will be a love interest for Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

Jonathan Hickman's "The Avengers" Lineup Revealed

Marvel has revealed writers Jonathan Hickman's Avengers line up.  There is one mystery though as the covers show one person shadowed out.  These three interlocking covers of the first three issues shows the members to be Captain America, Captain Marvel, Cannonball, The Hulk, Wolverine, Black Widow, Falcon, Thor, Sunspot, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and Hawkeye. The first issue of Jonathan Hickman's The Avengers is due out this December.

The Avengers Movie Review (Hulk Smash Spoilers)

Being a diehard Avengers fan from the 80’s I was ecstatic to hear that they were making an Avengers movie.  Having started reading the book since the mid 80’s and having a complete run of the comic book from issue 200 to present day with about a  whole bunch from the 100’s that are scattered around with holes that need to be filled.  So being a true fan of The Avengers comic book this movie was a fanboys dream comes true.  So did it hold up to expectations or was it a fanboys nightmare.

Scarlett Johansson. Black Widow. Latex. Need we say more?

The heat of the spotlight doesn't seem to bother Scarlett Johansson.

By most measures, "Iron Man 2" was seen as a bit of a disappointment. Not surprising for a sequel, of course. But the movie did bring us Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, a role she will reprise in next year's "The Avengers."

Johansson's character must share the screen with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Chris Evans' Captain America, the Mark Ruffalo and CG versions of the Hulk, and Samuel Jackson's Nick Fury. But she recently told Jeremy Gordon of the MTV Splash Page that she doesn't seem to be too worried about getting lost in the ensemble cast of director Joss Whedon:

“There are a lot of people to serve in [‘The Avengers’], for sure. The Widow has a great story. I think Joss did a great job of weaving together all these characters’ stories. It was no small feat for him.”

Might we see her again in "Iron Man 3?"

“I have no idea. I don’t know if I can get that latex suit on after the finishing ‘Avengers.’ I might have to take a break from the latex suit for a minute, eat some real cheese, and then get back into it.”

"The Avengers" assembles in theaters on May 4.
