Marvel Super Hero News, Rumors and Theories
By Ken Parker
Lots of rumors going around, some are
crazy, others, not so much. Let's take a look at some of them.
The big one – Sony is willing to lend
Spider-Man to Marvel for inclusion in one of their products like The
Avengers. WOW!! That would be incredible. Imagine a Hulk Vs
Spider-Man!!!
Now that means Marvel would have to pay
Sony or give Sony a portion of sales in whatever product the Web-Head
appears in. That negotiation would be tough as Sony will want all it
can get and Marvel may say, meh, we don't need Spider-Man. Marvel is
right. Sony would love to generate more publicity for their stand
alone Spider-Man films and having a cameo or role in Marvel's heavy
hitters would help Sony. If Sony is thinking they want to do this to
salvage their franchise they might be better off teaming up with FOX
and The X-Men. Also, Marvel may counter and say, we will buy Spidey
outright and reboot him for our own version.
Not everyone wants to see Spider-Man in
the Marvel universe. James Whitbrook has some good arguments onkeeping Spider-Man in a solo setting.
I still want to see Spider-Man in some
kind of team up. I think his contrast with Wolverine, Hulk or Black
Widow would be interesting to see.
Iron Man 4, Avengers without the Avengers and more......

Marvel v DC Movie Release Dates
So many movies coming out from Marvel and DC - lets take a look. Obviously most of these dates are subject to change, especially movies further out. I am uncertain of the accuracy of these dates as different web sites list different dates and some of the more official sites don't seem to be updated.
Color Key
Marvel Studios
Fox-Sony - Marvel Product
DC
2014
August 1 - Guardians of the Galaxy
2015
May 1 - The Avengers - Age of Ultron
June 19 - Fantastic Four reboot
July 17 - Ant-Man
2016
May 6 - Captain America 3
May 6 - Batman v Superman
May 27 - The X-Men - Apocalypse
July 18 - Doctor Strange
July - Shazam
November 11 - The Sinister Six
December - Sandman
2017
May 5 - Unannounced Marvel Studios (Thor 3?)
May - Justice League
July 28 - Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July - Wonder Woman
November 3 - Unannounced Marvel Studios
December - Green Lantern - Flash
TBD - Wolverine sequel
TBD - Fantastic Four sequel
2018
May 4 - The Avengers 3
May - Man of Steel 2
July 6 - Unannounced Marvel Studios
November 2 - Unannounced Marvel Studios
TBD - The Amazing Spider-Man 3
2019
May 3 - Unannounced Marvel Studios
I will be interested in seeing what happens in May 2016. The Batman v Superman movie is going to be huge and important to this entire plan for DC. They cannot go up against the established Captain America. Both films will suffer in the end and DC has more riding on this than Marvel. Expect DC to move to April or June.
Later in 2016 the battle of the unknowns will be interesting as well. If Batman v Superman sets up Shazam and Sandman properly then we should see some big hits. Marvel's next new superhero introduction won't be a given by any stretch.
2017 will have three big DC movies and Marvel may counter with some heavy hitters of their own. It would appear that Guardians is going to be a huge hit in 2014 and so should do well again. It depends on what Marvel has in store for the rest of its films in 2017.
2018 should be all Marvel even with Man of Steel 2 there. Still, if DC has managed to have duplicated Marvel's success then by 2018 there could be more DC movies in the works.
I don't expect any battles per say but if both franchises give each other a little distance, both should do well.

Falcon Is The New Captain America
This will happen in October and fans of Steve Rogers don't fret he will be in the book being a taction for Sam Wilson. Kind of like Batman Beyond with the old Bruce Wayne mentor thing. You can read the full story here.

Marvel V. DC - The Next Stage - Looking at the Schedules for 2014 and Beyond!
By Ken Parker
Well, WB has released a very ambitious plan for the DC
universe that certainly mimic’s Marvel’s success over the past few years.
May 2016 - BATMAN V.
SUPERMAN
July 2016 - SHAZAM
Xmas 2016 - SANDMAN
May 2017 - JUSTICE
LEAGUE
July 2017 - WONDER WOMAN
XMAS 2017 - UNTITLED
GREEN LANTERN/THE FLASH TEAM-UP
MAY 2018 - MAN OF STEEL
2
This looks pretty cool but how will Shazam and Sandman do is
a big question. Man of Steel was not the
massive success that Iron Man was and Green Lantern was not a determining factor
in all this either. Certainly the Batman
franchise has been healthy but without Christian Bale and no stand alone Batman
film in the plan, one has to wonder if DC can keep the momentum going. The majority of audiences probably can’t tell
the difference between DC and Marvel and will just see these as just more superhero
films. This may steer them to the
franchise they have grown to know and love, Marvel. Of course the Marvel path is a few years old
now and perhaps the new franchise will be what people want to see, something
different with DC.

The Marvel Universe Preview
If you haven't seen it already then go check out ABC's Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe which aired on March 18. The special, as you probably have heard already had a variety of teases into the future including footage from Captain America: Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy as well as some effects tests for Ant-Man and some concept artwork of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. See more photos and links after the break. The special also has a lot of information about the formation of the various movies as well as the TV series Marvel: Agents of SHIELD

Agent Carter - Marvel Short
Peggy Carter will be back and kicking bad guy's butts in Agent Carter, a short created by Marvel in the same vein as last year's prelude to The Avengers, Item 47. Peggy Carter, played again by Hayley Atwell, will be after something called Zodiac.
Peggy Carter was the love interest for Steve Rogers in Captain America - The First Avenger. A planned appearance by Carter (in her 90's) in The Avengers movie never happened but rumor has it she might be in the next Captain America movie, The Winter Soldier.
Agent Carter will debut at San Diego Comic Con.

The first issue of Jonathan Hickman's The Avengers is due out this December.

My Top 10 Superhero Movies - Part One
My Top 10 Superhero Movies
By Kenneth Parker
Part 1 – 10 - 6
With Superhero
movies accounting for a huge part of thje movie box office over the
past few years, one cannot ignore their influence and perhaps can
identify a time where they might over saturate the market. With a
record number of hero movies currently being worked on including Man
of Steel, Thor 2, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, The Avengers 2,
Ant-Man, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, The Amazing
Spiderman 2, Justice League, Shazam, the Flash, Green Arrow, Lobo,
The Suicide Squad and so on, one has to look at a best of list as
a very temporary list for sure. This list will no doubt change
drastically over the next couple of years.
Because of my very successful Top 25
Sci-Fi article series (i.e. I actually finished it) I figured it was
time to tackle superhero movies. I did not include any superhero
movies in the sci-fi category as there are enough for them to have
their own list. Unlike my Sci-fi list, I have decided to post this
list in two parts.
My rules for inclusion on this list are
as follows -
I need to have seen the film –
obviously. The film has to be a story about a superhero
(superheroes) with special abilities and/or a character(s) that is
attempting to do good by fighting crime as a superhero. Anyway, the
selection of movies was pretty easy and I just took the list from
Wikipedia.
I had to leave off some really good
films and like any of my lists, are always subject to change.

SDCC Marvel Movies Phase 2 (Thor & Captain America Titles)
Here is the banners Marvel revealed at SDCC Saturday. Captain America and Thor have interesting titles and I can guess who's gonna be in the Captain America movie. (If you read the Captain America comics it is a no brainer) Plus Guardians of the Galaxy is confirmed and Ant Man too.

Ed Brubaker To End His Run On Captain America
It appears that Ed Brubakers long run on Captain America is coming to an end. The man who killed Captain America, brought him back, brought Bucky back from the dead and made the comic book relevant again will be remembered as one of the best and extremely popular runs in Captain America since the 80's. Here is a snippet from an interview.
By the time this interview comes out, I will have written my last issue… I hit a point with the work-for-hire stuff where I was starting to feel burned out on it. Like my tank is nearing empty on superhero comics, basically. It’s been a great job, and I think I found ways to bring my voice to it, but I have a lot of other things I want to do as a writer, too, so I’m going to try that for a while instead. This news will hit some people hard but it was destined to come at some point as Marvel has been having a shift of it's long time writers on series leaving their books like Bendis leaving Avengers and Hickman leaving Fantastic Four. Well I loved the Brubaker era and his run made me a Captain America fan all over again.

The Avengers Movie Review (Hulk Smash Spoilers)
Being a diehard Avengers fan from the 80’s I was ecstatic
to hear that they were making an Avengers movie. Having started reading the book since the mid
80’s and having a complete run of the comic book from issue 200 to present day
with about a whole bunch from the 100’s that
are scattered around with holes that need to be filled. So being a true fan of The Avengers comic book
this movie was a fanboys dream comes true.
So did it hold up to expectations or was it a fanboys nightmare.

Finally A Cool Idea From Marvel. Marvel To Release Captain America and Hawkeye As The Beginning Of A New Team Up Book!!!
Finally something that I can get excited about from Marvel Comics. They are doing a monthly ongoing pairing Captain America with Hawkeye. CBR has the full story and is reporting that this book will continue with the numbering of Captain America and Bucky when the Bucky storyline finishes up. This is pretty cool as these two characters are a couple of my favorite Marvel characters. The book will be written by Cully Bunn and the artist will be Alessandro Vitti. The Hawkeye arc will begin in April and when that finishes up someone else will team with Captain America. So in essence it will be a Captain America Team Up Book. Full story here.
