Thunderbirds Are Go – New TV series - Review of Ring of Fire

A bit of a background. I am a fan of Thunderbirds but only got into it initially because I grew up with Space: 1999 and UFO. I did not watch Thunderbirds until I was in my 20's, in the 80's. Thunderbirds was probably my favorite of the Supermarionation series and always felt that a remake would be prime material for a successful new venture. Obviously the new remake would have to handled properly and while I think the 2004 movie version missed the mark, the new Thunderbirds Are Go series was near perfect in its execution.

It's official. Thunderbirds Are Go TV series will debut on April 4 in the U.K. Saturday, 5pm on ITV. New Zealand gets the show a week later on the 12^th.

I couldn't quite wait a month to post more news concerning the world of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. The first bit is pretty big news.

Sylvia Anderson to guest star in Thunderbirds Are Go! TV series.  It was announced that Sylvia Anderson will lend her voice to the part of Lady Penelope's great aunt, Sylvia!  Sylvia not only co-produced the original Thunderbirds TV series but also voiced the original Lady Penelope.

Here is what she said about her involvement -

“I am completely over the moon”, Sylvia exclusively confessed to us. “I’m looking forward to playing yet another feisty lady, and I know that Thunderbirds Are Go is going to be a great series! It’s wonderful to witness the rebirth of something so close to my heart. Oh, and if you must know, there is more to the character than meets the eye”.

Thunderbirds Are Go TV Series Update and Rumors (UPDATED)

Some rumors going around that the new show will air starting April 15 in the UK.

The new ITV animated series is a remake of the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson puppet series of the 60's.

The series has already been renewed for a second season!

The New Thunderbirds Are Go TV Series is renewed for a second series!!

And it hasn't even aired yet!!!

ITV Studios has announced that the WETA produced half hour TV series remake of Thunderbirds will go from 26 episodes to 52 and the second series will air in 2016 and 2017.  Meanwhile the first season has yet to air anywhere but is due this spring, 2015.

Thunderbirds Are Go is a remake of the 60's TV series by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson which was their pinnacle Supermarionation series which used sophisticated marionettes instead of real people.  Ground breaking special effects and superb action highlighted the

series and was a favorite for kids and adults like for years.

WETA (Lord of the Rings) is producing a new series which will feature CG and real models and effects.  The series stars the voices of Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) as Lady Penelope, David Graham (reprising his role as Parker) and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones).

Thunderbirds TV Series Casting

Weta Workshop's Thunderbirds Are Go TV series is slated for a 2015 airing and has begun casting for the various voices for this CG and live action TV series.

Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) will voice brothers Scott and Alan Tracy.

Kayvan Novak (Skins) will play Brains

Andres Williams (M.I. High) will be the villain The Hood.

Angel Coulby (Merlin) will be a new character, Kayo.

David Menkin (Bob the Builder) plays Virgil Tracy

Thomas Brody Sangster (Game of Thrones, Phineas and Ferb)  plays John and Gordon Tracy

Adjoa Andoh (Doctor Who - Francine Jones) plays Colonel Casey (new character)

Sandra Dickinson (Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy) will be Grandma Tracy

Rosamund Pike (The World's End, Die Another Day) will play Lady Penelope

David Graham (Doctor Who - Dalek Voice, Fireball Xl5) will reprise his part as Parker which he played in the original 1966 TV Gerry Anderson TV series.

Thunderbirds Are Go - New Series

ITV Studios is teaming up with Pukeko Pictures to make a brand new Thunderbirds TV series.  They are bringing on board WETA Workshop (The Lord of the Rings, Avatar) to re-imagine the series.  The plan is to shoot with CG and models. Rib Hoegee (Team Titans, Ben 10) will be the head writer.

The series will be 26 half hour episodes and is scheduled to air in 2015, 50 years after the original Thunderbirds debut.
