Lots of series canceled, lots of stuff coming up and a look at The Martian movie.

Continuum Series - So after 4 seasons, Continuum is done.  I followed the show since day one and for the most part I found the entire thing enjoyable.  I felt the show never ever was on track with a true direction and that might be representative of the time travel nature of the story.  The show was constantly trying to find an identity and often changed direction.  I don't think it ever figured itself out and even in the final mini season, it just barely managed to put all the pieces together.  It was not a bad show and the ending approached a satisfying conclusion but not sure it was worth the 4 years to get there.  If you are looking for a time travel, conundrum and paradox show that looks at how and why one might want to change history, this series has some great concepts and excellent characters.

We have another wide variety of news as well as a look at the summer of sci-fi and some of my opinions on some of the TV shows airing this summer. We also say good-bye to a couple of influential people in the genre and take a look at my most anticipated movie of the year, and it is NOT Star Wars!

Defiance Renewed by SyFy

SyFy has renewed their best sci-fi series, Defiance (in my opinion) for its third season.  Dominion has also been renewed.  Both series will return next summer for 13 episodes each.

Defiance – We are all Aliens, After All

Defiance is the new name of the city once known as St Louis. The series starts out 33 years after eight alien races, part of the Votan collective, came to Earth to find a new home.  In the early episodes, all that viewers know is that the inhabitants of Defiance include humans and several groups of aliens: the white-haired humanoid Castithans, the bald-headed humanoid Indogenes, the small scruffy and hairy Liberata, and the large orangutan-like Sensoth. The Irathients used to live with Defiance, but a fierce culture clash resulted in bloodshed, and those aliens now live in the badlands as scavengers, occasionally coming into Defiance to trade. Occasionally an Irathien may exhibit visionary talent.

Along with the mix of cultures and peoples, Defiance faces pressure from a political entity known as the Earth Republic. There seems also to be an organization called the Votanus Collective, based in Brazil. Also, unbeknownst to the citizens of Defiance, one of their own has attempted already once to arrange for the city to be attacked by the warlike alien Volge. Fortunately, that attack failed. But more chaos is intended, as a search for strange alien artifacts is underway.

Coming to the SyFy Channel April 2013

Syfy Delivers Sci-Fi!!

The Syfy Channel has announced quite a few new projects for near future.  Among the 28 projects there is a new show called Defiance which is a post apocalyptic setting starring Julie Benz (No Ordinary Family) and Grant Bowler (True Blood).  The series will be heavily connected to a video game being released at the same time.  Produced by Rockne O'Bannon (Farscape) and directed by Scott Stewart (Preist), the series should be out in 2013.
