Is A New Star Trek Series On The Horizon? William Shatner and Michael Dorn Hope So.

I came across two interesting articles on sciencefiction.com talking about a possibility of a new Star Trek TV series.  Do not get your hopes ups as I don't really see anything coming out of this but with the 50th Anniversary coming in 2016 it is a more realistic possibility that there would be a new movie for the 50th than a TV show but it would be cool if the show came back and it is time for it to return.

The first article is about William Shatner rallying for a new series saying it is time for it to return.  His claim is that he wants the show to come back to help inspire  the science side of it and plus it is time with the new movies out and everything.

“You know, I think you’re right. Because, JJ Abrams has found the key to getting a large audience into the movie theater, and that’s the ride. So you get a lot of the CGI effects, which is the epic movie making aspect of today, whereas in Cecile B. Demille’s time, you had to use real people. Now you don’t need to use real people and you can have infinity for God’s sake.
That’s in order to get you into the theater, because the majesty of the movie is shown by the large screen. But when you get into the small screen, you need stories… entertaining, interesting, vital stories that have a philosophy and also have an excitement about them, so that the viewer stays with it, but recieves the philosophy as a byproduct. Those were the best of Star Trek, those kinds of stories. And that kind of thing, there is always room for that. That kind of imaginative approach that stirs young people into wanting to be connected with science.”

The second one is about a Worf series in which he would be a Captain of his own ship and Michael Dorn has a script already and has already  made a pitch to Paramount.

“Last year there was interest and I talked to a couple producers and we actually had pitch meeting with Paramount and CBS. Business things got in the way in terms of the JJ Abrams movie coming out and CBS/Paramount and their relationship with JJ Abrams. I don’t think they wanted to step on his toes by putting a new series on, but it’s not dead yet. I’ve finished the script and hopefully someone will take a look at this and say ‘we can do this.’
It is very interesting that Star Trek is starting to make news of a comeback and I believe it is the right time for it as science fiction has become popular at this moment and with Doctor Who enjoying success since it has returned and the fact the Star Trek movies have garnered interest in the franchise again I believe it is just a matter of time for someone to take a chance on a new series for Star Trek.

Abe - Sci-Fi Short

This short is going to be made into a feature length film.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Dreamland

Doctor Who:
Dreamland
By Phil Ford

The Doctor has arrived in Dry Springs Nevada in the year of 1958 eleven years after a UFO had crashed landed in that part of the USA.   He enters a diner looking to have some chili when he is met by a waitress named Cassie and her friend Jimmy.  While going on about chili and everything else about 1958 America The Doctor spots something that Cassie says is just junk her mother thought would be an interest to tourists.

The Doctor notices that it isn’t junk and goes ahead and activates it with his sonic screwdriver when all of a sudden men in black appear in the diner and ask for the artifact.  The three escape the men in black by running out the back of the diner and leaving in Jimmy’s truck.  Jimmy explains to The Doctor that something has been killing his cattle and he thinks it is aliens. The Doctor is intrigued and they head over to look.  Jimmy shows The Doctor the footprint and it is indeed alien.  They are soon encountering a Viperox that is about to destroy them.  They are saved by the military which takes them to Area 51 or Dreamland as The Doctor knows it by.  The Doctor is not all that comfortable with Colonal Stark and the whole mind erasing thing and the alien tech that is all over the place.  He is right as Colonial Stark is working with the Lord Azlok and the Viperox who The Doctor finds out is planning to use the Earth for their own means.

Video For J.J. Abrams New Mystery Project

It is simply titled stranger and so far it is a mystery as to what it will be.  Not sure if it is for a movie or TV show but it does seem strange. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Kick-Ass 2 Movie Review (Some Spoilers)

Review by Ken Parker

I really enjoyed the first Kick-Ass movie mostly for it's originality and its messages about being a superhero and being a good person... or at least stand for good. Elements of humor, action and drama were mixed beautifully in one of the biggest surprises for me at the theater in 2010. I have since watched the film numerous times and hoped the sequel would continue the story and capture at least some of what the first one was.

Did it??

Some mild spoilers

Standby for Action as Anderson Entertainment’s first Gerry Anderson convention is Go!

The event promises to deliver an “Exclusively Anderson” experience, celebrating the life and legacy of British television's most celebrated Science Fiction producer, and creator of telefantasy classics including Thunderbirds, Space 1999, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet, UFO and Stingray.

AnderCon 2014 will be taking place on the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th April, 2014, at the Park Inn Hotel, Heathrow Airport, London.

There will be guest appearances from many of the stars of some of his most celebrated shows across the weekend, including from Space 1999 Zienia Merton, Prentis Hancock & Pam Rose, Space Precinct’s David Quilter & Richard James and Thunderbirds David Graham, Matt Zimmerman & Shane Rimmer, Liz Morgan from the original Captain Scarlet and the wonderful Denise Bryer, who played the evil Zelda in Terrahawks.

The event also aims to bring to life the creativity and ingenuity of those early studio days through displays of production drawings together with recreations of actual sets used in the filming of classic shows such as Thunderbirds and Stingray, including; Brains Laboratory, an explosive Refinery, the Rolling Road beloved of many an action sequence, and Stingray’s “underwater” tank, complete with fish alongside some of the surviving full sized vehicles that appeared in Anderson’s productions. Production personnel attending currently includes Mike Trim, Steve Begg, Kevin Davies, Crispin Merrell, Terry Adlam, Des Saunders, Phil Ford, and from the very beginning, Gerry’s original business partner at AP Films, Arthur Provis.

In addition to props and models used in the actual filming of Anderson’s shows, there will be an impressive display of reproduction props and models courtesy of fan collectors and prop builders. The restored Strakers Car from UFO will also be unveiled at the event.

More information on the event can be found on the events website – www.andercon.co.uk with additional guests and event attractions to be announced in the coming months.

As Terrahawk’s Dr “Tiger” Ninestein once said, “Expect the unexpected!”

Damian Wayne Returns In Damian Son Of Batman

Don't get your hopes up Damian Wayne Robin fans it isn't a resurrection in a regular continuity book it is an alternate reality mini series by Andy Kubert.  The basis of this 4 issue mini series is Batman 666 which takes place 15 years from now with Damian as Batman.  Should be an interesting series as Batman 666 was a pretty good alternate reality story.  You can read the full story and interview at the link below.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. By @ThePlanetHarris

Doctor Who
Dalek Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.
By Terry Nation
Reviewed By Steven Harris

Released on 5th August 1966, a year after Dr. Who and the Daleks, this sequel is probably slightly superior to the first Regal Films production yet fared less well at the box office. Again based on a Terry Nation storyline which had already appeared on television in the canonical world of Doctor Who, Milton Subotsky’s screenplay was also worked on by David Whitaker who, like Nation, had himself written several Hartnell era stories for the show. Gordon Flemyng was again directing and musical lessons had possibly been learnt from the first film as the incidental music is less frantic and supports the action more successfully although there is still a tendency towards the twee rather than truly dramatic instrumental interludes.

Peter Cushing returns as Dr. Who, the human clever clogs who has built the Tardis. Roberta Tovey is back playing Susan but her older sister is nowhere to be seen. Instead a niece of the Dr. is on board, Louise(Jill Curzon). Joining them, after a failed attempt at foiling a robbery from a jewellery, is Bernard Cribbins as Special Constable Tom Campbell. Yes, Bernard Cribbins who would stamp himself all over the revived TV show between 2007-10 as Wilfred Mott, grandfather of Donna Noble.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Doctor Who and The Daleks By @ThePlanetHarris

Doctor Who:
Doctor Who and The Daleks
1965 Movie
By Terry Nation
Reviewed By Steven Harris

In late August of 1965 Regal Films International released a movie based on Terry Nation’s BBC Doctor Who storyline, The Daleks, which had initially been screened eighteen months earlier. The screenplay, adapted by Milton Subotsky but remaining reasonably faithful to the original Nation script, showed an entirely new crew for the Tardis zipping off across time and space to encounter the already iconic metallic pepper-pots from Skaro.

In much the same way that the 1967 version of Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again (1983) are not considered to be part of the James Bond canon, director Gordon Flemyng’s forays into Dr. Who movies are not incorporated into the history of the BBC television show or the character of the Doctor himself. Whether the BBC had designs on a theatrical release of their hugely successful science-fiction show, as some suggest, or not is irrelevant: Terry Nation had created the Daleks and was perfectly within his rights to wish to exploit the concept on the big screen. Some deal must have been done, however, to allow Regal Films, a company more known for budget horror nonsense, to use the Doctor’s name and the acronym TARDIS (the ship is still a familiar blue police box which presumably was not copyrightable at that time, even though the BBC did copyright the image once such devices were no longer being manufactured or used by the British constabulary).
