Meet the new Khan: Edgar Ramirez

Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez - didn't he play shortstop for the Red Sox back in the 1980s? - is the choice of director J.J. Abrams to play Khan in "Star Trek 2," according to Variety.

Abrams appears to be moving quickly from Plan A - Benicio Del Toro, who bowed out when he wasn't offered enough quatloos for the role made famous in the original TV series and "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" by Ricardo Montalban.

Ramirez is not well-known to American audiences, obviously. But that shouldn't make any difference, since it would be his performance that is most important. And he does have a role in next year's "Wrath of the Titans," and that's kind of close to "Wrath of Khan," right?

Plan C, according to Variety, would be another unknown in Jordi Molla.

Abrams needs to cast his Khan Noonien Singh soon because production begins next month.

We're not totally sold on the recycling of a Classic Trek villain for the new movie. Then again, no one asked us.

UFO Spotted Near Mercury??

There has been a lot of real science news of late pertaining to outer space.  Time to wonder what this could be and do they come in peace.

There have been so many Sci-Fi movies with UFOs and flying saucers in them.  I guess this latest find would mean we are looking at a massive sized craft, if it is what. What if it was? As in movies and TV, alien craft coming to Earth is nothing new but do we remember some of these classics -

Has anyone ever seemed more intent on ruining his own reputation as George Lucas? We're all aware of his many self-inflicted artistic crimes against the "Star Wars" franchise, but here's the latest. US Weekly reports that Chewbacca will guest star next Tuesday on the holiday episode of "Glee."

Matthew Morrison confirmed the news on "Jimmy Kimmel Live:" "We called up George Lucas and he gave us Chewbacca. There is only one guy who can officially be Chewbacca, and he lives in Northern California and they flew him in," the 33-year-old actor, who also directed the episode, explained. "We had Chewbacca for the day, and it was just great, and we were all taking pictures with him."

Brian Michael Bendis is Leaving The Avengers in 2012

The longest writer in Avengers history will be bidding adieu to it in sometime in 2012 reports CBR.   He's been writing the book and subsequent Avenger books since 2004 and has been a very popular writer for the book despite some stories being very dialog driven and lacking action.  He also was the writer that finally got Spider-Man on the team and spotlighted little used Marvel Heroes and making them mainstream and relevant again. Here is what he says about his departure from the CBR interview.

“I’m going to wrap up ‘Avengers’ and ‘New Avengers.’ At the same time the first storyline of ‘Avengers Assemble’ will be done. It’s a good time to move on to other things. Before I go, though, I’m ending things big. I’m in countdown mode. You know when you’re watching a show like ‘Breaking Bad,’ and every episode feels like the second to last episode? That’s where I’m at. I’ve been on the Avengers longer than anybody in the history of the book. When you take everything into account, I’ve written over 200 issues. I’m very, very proud of that, and what we have coming up this summer gives me the opportunity to go out on a high note. I know enough about showbiz to know that’s a great time to go.”

Red Dwarf Make Up Test Video "It Is Coming Back. Hurray!!!"

The TV Channel Dave released a video of a make up test for the beginning of production on Red Dwarf 10. It will return in 2012 most likely towards the end of the year. This is indeed great news for all of us Smeg Heads out there. Here is the announcement and video from the Dave website.

'Thor 2' Loses Its Leading Lady, Director Patty Jenkins

Patty Jenkins is out as "Thor 2" director.

First came the news that "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh would not return for the sequel.

 

Now comes the news that his successor, Patty Jenkins, has left "Thor 2" over "creating differences," according to Mike Jenkins of Deadline:

I’m told that Marvel Studios is already talking to agencies as it canvasses for a new director, something that is expected to happen quickly ... Marvel will have to move fast because it has to meet a November 15, 2013 release date for the sequel.

Jenkins is best known for directing Charlize Theron to an Oscar in "Monster."

Jenkins no longer directing the movie comes as a big surprise as reports had her actively working on pre-production as of this past weekend.

Don Payne, co-writer of the first film, is working on the script for "Thor 2." The sequel will again star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston.

It's Coming Revealed! It's Avengers VS X -Men. Really Marvel, Really!

File this one under pretty stupid and lame and dumb and why?  Marvel Comics big event for 2012 is Avengers VS X - Men.  Really. I know there are some decent writers on that advert but come on.  USA Today broke the story today about what has been teased this fall as It's Coming.  Well now it's here and so far I'm not really impressed.  I think Marvel could do with a makeover also just like DC and make there books relevant again.  Marvel just seems to disappoint with their year long events just look at Fear Itself and Civil War and that Skrull Crap that happen a few years ago.  So here we go again Marvel how are we going to be disappointed this time.
