Orphan Black Season Two Review - Spoilers

Like most shows, I would expect the second season of Orphan Black to not live up to expectations. The impossibly excellent story and pacing of season one punctuated by superb performances all around really exceeded anyone's expectations who watched it. Raising the bar that high is always dangerous because you may not be able to outdo your self in season two but series creators have given it their best and have delivered a product that lives up to these expectations.

Top Reasons to Watch Orphan Black

No, I am not trying to get you to watch this show, well, maybe.  If you haven't already, then you have your reasons. Hopefully they are good ones and that you don't regret the decision to skip this superb series down the line. If you are on the fence I would like to give you my top reasons for watching the series.

In getting ready for season 2 of Orphan Black I revisited the 10 episode season 1 by watching the Blu-ray. I have already given high praise to this series and believe it is one of the best, if not best sci-fi series on TV right now. I have come up with a few top reasons you might want to give the show a try and catch up before the season 2 debut on BBC America on April 19 at 9pm.

Golden Globes Fail!!! Tatiana Maslany Snubbed

Well, my very small faith in any awards ceremony is all but gone now that the Golden Globes did not chose the only real winner for Best Actress in a TV Drama.  Anyone who has seen Orphan Black knows what I am talking about.  Tatiana Maslany is the definition of Best Actress and yet again ignorance or some kind of political agenda has kept this little known actress from easily getting what she deserved.  She acted her socks off in multiple parts last year for Orphan Black and everyone knows it.

Still, the Golden Globes at least were smart enough to nominate her, unlike the sham of award ceremonies the Emmys.

If this actress continues to act the way she did in Orphan Black season 1 she WILL win many many awards in the future once the voters wake up and see pure talent right in front of them. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association failed!

Orphan Black - Tatiana Maslany Nominated For Golden Globe

Where the Emmy's failed to do the Golden Globes got it right.  Tatiana Maslany was nominated for a Golden Globe in the Lead Actress in a Drama for Television.  This is a well deserved nomination and if you watch Orphan Black and see all the different characters she plays you will agree that she should win the award.  Glad to see someone recognize her performance even if it is in a science fiction show.  Maybe the Emmy's will fix their mistake next year.

What?  No Way......

 This site (or at least this author) no longer views the television Emmy Awards as a serious and accurate showcase of on screen talent for television.  Its most recent nominations are an abomination of the highest degree and I will no longer acknowledge them until they fix this grievous error in the Best Actress nomination category.  Tatiana Maslany may be an underdog to WIN an Emmy but the fact that she was not even nominated is beyond belief.  Whatever process this sham of an organization has to nominate has to be totally revamped.  This snub is epic.  I feel bad for Tatiana but here are other awards out there that have to be more respectable than the Emmys.

Don't get on Alison's bad side.

Critics Choice Awards Winners

Some sci-fi and fantasy programs won including 

The Big Bang Theory won for Best Comedy while Game of Thrones tied with Breaking Bad for Best Drama.

Kaley Cuoco of The Big Bang Theory won Best Supporting Actress (tied with Eden Sher of The Middle)

Simon Helberg won Best Supporting Actor for The Big Bang Theory.

Best Supporting Actress in a mini series went to Sarah Paulson of American Horror Story: Asylum

Oh, and Best Actress went to Tatiana Maslany of Orphan Black, but of course you knew that if you had read our previous Orphan Black articles on our site.

Orphan Black Season One Review - Some Mild Spoilers

We all have those shows that we hear about and think “maybe I will watch it” or “If I have time I might give it a chance” or “perhaps someday..” Orphan Black was that type of show

for me. I really had little time to watch a new show but I gave it a chance. Ten episodes later and this series is my favorite show of the season. I wasn't expecting this and what a surprise. Every week this series got better and better. It continued to improve.

Really. Compare what is out there right now for sci-fi series. There are some good ones. An obvious choice would be Doctor Who and while Doctor Who has taken a massive turn for the better in the past 5 weeks, it has yet to show me that it can sustain high quality without resorting to its usual gimmicky plot lines. Shows like Revolution and Person of Interest have some good things going and in the case of Person of Interest, it might be tough not to claim that show is the best on TV right now but you have to put Orphan Black in the same level of quality as the best right now.
