Doctor Who - Hell Bent - Review by Ken Parker (Spoilers)

“Hell Bent” is an interesting episode that once again, has broken fandom in half. Despite many people liking “Heaven Sent”, there were many who did not like it because it was too different. This episode really follows along that path.

The Doctor is now on Gallifrey and he is there just to get Clara back. Everything is all about saving Clara. This whole thing about the Hybrid? Forget it. So the Doctor does get her back but at what price. Clara can't believe the Doctor did all this and is risking terrible disaster. She is willing to let things go and die as she was supposed to. The Doctor will have none of it and sort of loses his mind. In the end it appears that the Hybrid is indeed the Doctor and Clara together and so Clara dying would eliminate that problem. The Doctor decides to erase her memory of her time with the Doctor. This worked once before with Donna, why not again. Clara will have none of it and alters the device so that perhaps the Doctor will lose his memory of her. In one of the better twists in the series we see the answer to who has forgotten whom and it is an perfectly executed twist.

Doctor Who – Heaven Sent Review (Spoilers)

Everything leading up to this episode hinted at a very bad story. We are at a season conclusion, something Moffat has failed at more than he has succeeded. Even the title, “Heaven Sent” reminds me of last season's finale and that was garbage. And of course Moffat is writing and has not done much really good writing since taking over as show-runner. Until now.

Doctor Who – Face The Raven – Review (spoilers)

This is a very interesting episode and it is obvious that the number of open endings in it means that the story still has to be completed. After what some consider to be one of the worst episodes in years, "Sleep No More", we have “Face the Raven” which is a very talky almost murder mystery type of plotline. Rigsy (seen in last season's “Flatline”) is in trouble and calls the Doctor and Clara. He has a tattoo of a number on his neck that is counting down. The team investigates and locates a hidden street in London that acts as a sanctuary for stranded aliens on Earth. It appears that Rigsy killed one of those aliens and the countdown is when he will die. He has totally forgotten about the previous day. What the real story is concerns Ashildr (Maisie Williams) and yet another elaborate plan to capture the Doctor. Who set the trap and why is to be determined next episode but that is not important right now.

Oh, boy, where to begin.  First off, I like when series try to do something different and usually found footage formats are entertaining.  In this case the gimmick is wrapped up within the found footage.  There is a reason for why we are seeing what we are seeing.  The found footage concept is part of the plot and this is highly imaginative if not kind of "HUH?

So one of the most annoying things about Doctor Who is it's ability to suck one moment and be brilliant the next.  In the first episode "The Magician's Apprentice" we had excellent, followed by horrible followed by excellent script writing and so what better reason to watch the next episode than to see what percentage will suck and could it get any worse?  Well, Moffat surprises me again with a fairly good outing for Doctor Who with some excellence sprinkled with just a touch of bad.

Doctor Who - The Magician's Apprentice Review - Some Spoliers

The Doctor is dying again... OH NO, what will we do.  Missy is the Doctor's best friend (obviously) and decides to recruit the help from Clara by stopping all planes in the world and meeting her in an outdoor cafe for coffee (obviously). Missy cannot find the Doctor anywhere but Clara and UNIT can - he is back in time having a party of a lifetime.  He is driving a tank around, playing guitar and teaching medieval people the word "dude" (of course). Missy using that magical time travel bracelets that are used sparingly in the series transports herself and Clara to where the Doctor is.  An alien who is actually made up of snakes summons the Doctor - Davros is dying.  Davros remembers and wants to meet the Doctor one last time.

Doctor Who - Returning Character in 2015 - Spoiler

Even though this is a spoiler, it is all over the news and no one is surprised to see this character return next season of Doctor Who.  If you want to be surprised, stay off the internet for the next few months.  If you want to know who it is, read more!!
