New ‘Underworld: Awakening’ TV spot, teaser

Kate Beckinsdale in leather can mean only one thing. OK, it can mean a few things. To movie-goers, though, it means another "Underworld" film is in the works. Fans of the series now have both a television spot (above) and new teaser (below) for "Underworld Awakening" to enjoy.

Beckinsale is back for her third turn as as vampire Selene (she did not appear in the 2009 prequel, "Underworld: Rise oo the Lycans."

Overall, "Awakening" is the fourth film in the series. It opens Jan. 20.

Meet Miranda Hart - the Doctor's new companion?

Will Miranda Hart be taking a ride on the TARDIS?

The Bleeding Cool website is reporting that the next "Dr. Who" companion may be Miranda Hart - star, creator and writer of the BBC sitcom, "Miranda." Brendon Connolly wrote:

We have tried, to no avail, to get an actual confirmation that Ms. Hart will be taking part in the series. At this stage we thought it fair to report that, at the very least, her name keeps coming around.

Whovians know for a fact that the countdown has begun on Matt Smith's current companions, Amy and Rory, portrayed by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darville.


The 6-foot, 1-inch Hart does have some sci-fi experience, according to SyFy.com. She previously starred in a U.K. sci-fi-comedy serie, "Hyperdrive."

The fearsome "Stormageddon."

Bleeding Cool also is reporting that actor James Corden may reprise his role as Craig Owens from two previous episodes, "The Lodger" and "Closing Time."

There is no word on whether he would be joined by his infant son, ''Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All.''

Sherlock Cast In New Star Trek Film As The Baddie!!!!

It is being reported that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as being cast in J.J Abrams sequel to Star Trek.  That is pretty cool news but what makes all the news pretty interesting is the news that he may be the main villain in the film also.  You can read all about it at the link below.

Here is a trailer for this Sundays episode of Sherlock "The Hounds of the Baskerville" which if it holds true to the original story should be a good one for fans of Watson.

First, a confession. As any friend will tell you, I am hard of hearing, especially on my right side. As a result, I sometimes watch DVDs at home with the closed captioning turned on. That's part of the reason that the latest news about "The Dark Knight Rises" caught my ear (sorry).

I found the voice of the villain Bane, portrayed by Tom Hardy, difficult to understand in the early clips of the movie. At first, I thought it might just be me. Then I read other people saying the same thing.

Multiple Internet sources - Adam Chitwood of collider.com posted the "exclusive" - are reporting that negative feedback about the sound caused Warner Bros. to distribute a remix of the film's prologue that is being shown in IMAX theaters:

“A friend of mine who is an IMAX projectionist told me they received a new soundtrack for the Dark Knight Rises prologue. He said it’s now a combo soundtrack with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but the cool thing about this is that they’ve cleaned up the dialogue. They’ve gone in and lowered the background noise of the plane and other things, thus making Bane’s dialogue clearer and more understandable. He asked some people after they left the movie if they could understand Bane and they all said they had no issue understanding him, and were excited for the movie.”

Collider also published a copy of a letter being sent to IMAX theaters about the fix.

Seems simple enough. After all, who in their right mind would not want to clean up the dialogue so that viewers can understand what one of the main characters is saying?

Director Christopher Nolan, for one, is not crazy about the idea. He reportedly was opposed to reworking Bane's voice, although not against adjusting other sound in the mix.

Then, shortly after the Collider story appeared, the site was contacted by the studio:

Warner Bros as contacted me and said that our story is absolutely not true.

Maybe I will just wait for the DVD and watch the closed captioning. Well, I would if I had any willpower.

Director Rian Johnson offers early look at time machine from 'Looper'

If it's not on your movie radar for 2012, you might want to pencil in "Looper" for Sept. 28 because it sounds promising.

Director Rian Johnson is giving the film an early push by releasing a black-and-white photograph of the time machine that will be featured in the movie. But it's the plot that has our attention. In the movie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is part of a group of mob hitmen called "Loopers" who use a time machine to send their victims into the past to be killed. Gordon-Levitt's character becomes understandably conflicted when his latest victim shows up - a future version of himself, played by Bruce Willis.

Reports Janice Kay of sciencefiction.com: 

Filming for ‘Looper’ wrapped early last year and preliminary screenings of the film was met with some great positive reactions. It sounds like this film is worth seeing.

Unless you have your own time machine, you'll have to wait until the fall to find out for sure.

DC Comics Gives A Name To The Mysterious Hooded Lady

For those who read DC Comics and have noticed a hooded mysterious lady lurking in the background of their comics.  Well DC has released her name so now there is a tad bit less mystery and now more speculation.  Her name it appears is Pandora.

The much awaited return of Sherlock is finally here and finally a resolution to that cliffhanger. It has been a good year plus since it was last on and will the same chemistry still be there and will the stories be just as amazing as series 1.  Well with "A Scandal in Belgravia" Steven Moffat

Lord Vader (Bob Anderson) is dead

Everyone knows award-winning actor James Earl Jones gave Darth Vader his unforgettable voice in the "Star Wars" movies.

Everyone knows weightlifter David Prowse was the man beneath the costume who made Vader a menacing presence.

Almost no one knows the vital role played by Bob Anderson in creating the legendary character. Anderson, who fought light-sabre battles as Vader in the movies, has passed away at age 89. Even in death, mystery is part of his legacy. Some sources, such as The Daily Beast and The Daily Mail, say Anderson donned the black to do battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars." The Associated Press, however, reports Anderson's fight scenes were part of the sequels, "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."

For several years, Anderson received no credit at all. In an odd sense of irony, it was Luke Skywalker himself - Mark Hamill - who broke the silence in a 1983 interview with Starlog magazine:

"Bob Anderson was the man who actually did Vader's fighting. It was always supposed to be a secret, but I finally told (director) George (Lucas) I didn't think it was fair any more. Bob worked so bloody hard that he deserves some recognition. It's ridiculous to preserve the myth that it's all done by one man."

Added Anderson's former assistant, Leon Hill: "David Prowse wasn't very good with a sword and Bob couldn't get him to do the moves. Fortunately Bob could just don the costume and do it himself."


Regardless, the former British Olympic swordsman made his mark His career spanned working with Errol Flynn on "The Master of Ballantrae" in 1952 to the James Bond movies "From Russia With Love" and "Die Another Day" to "The Princess Bride," "The Mask of Zorro," "The Legend of Zorro" the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "Pirates of the Caribbean."

George R.R. Martin offers a glimpse at 'The Winds of Winter'

A Christmas present from George R.R. Martin.

Books? Yes, some of us still read books. Perhaps my favorite Christmas present was George R.R. Martin's "A Dance With Dragons," the long-anticipated fifth book in his "A Song of Fire and Ice" series. I had not yet purchased it for myself because I spent the year trying to catch up on my small library of unread books. And I'm not one of those people who can read two or three books at the same time.

The funny thing is, I am enjoying the reintroduction of Tyrion and other characters so much that I am purposely reading slowly, limiting myself to one chapter a night. OK, last night I gorged on three chapters. Couldn't help myself. Anyway, I want to make the book last because who knows when Martin will publish the sixth volume, "The Winds of Winter." After all, it was a very long six years between "A Feast for Crows" and "Dragons."

Now comes this.

On his website, Martin has published an excerpt from "Winter." You can read it here. As he wrote on his blog:

As a Christmas gift to all my loyal fans and readers, I've just replaced the (long published) sample chapters from A Dance With Dragons on my website with an unpublished sample chapter from The Winds of Winter.

(The chronology, as usual, is tricky. This chapter will be found eventually at the beginning of Winds, but as you will be able to tell from context, it actually takes place before some of the chapters at the end of Dance).

Martin has received a huge boost in popularity thanks to the Emmy-winning HBO series based on the books, "Game of Thrones." Most viewers have never read the books, of course, which led to an amusing exchange (well, I thought it was funny) at a party this summer. Someone-who-shall-not-be-named was holding court on Martin's books, making some wholly inaccurate generalizations based solely on what he had watched on HBO.

Me (trying to be kind): "I don't think that's quite right."

Him (too indignantly): "What makes you say that?"

Me: "I've read all the books."

Yes, some of us still read books.

How many spoilers can one film stand?

"The Avengers" won't be in theaters until May 4. That hasn't stopped an almost nonstop stream of unofficial photographs, videos and the ever-popular Internet rumors about possible spoilers. If S.H.I.E.L.D leaked as many secrets, Nick Fury would be cleaning urinals at the Pentagon.

The latest spoiler is about a possible villain appearing in the film.

Fact: We know Loki is in the film.

Rumor: We think these guys are, too. Click at your own risk!
