DC Entertainment is Developing a Supergirl TV Series

Arrow and The Flash's Greg Berlanti has confirmed that plans are in place to produce a Supergirl TV series. No word on if the CW would pick up the proposed series which could lead to a Supergirl, Arrow and Flash crossover. Berlanti stated -

“We’re just starting to work on it,” Berlanti said. “We haven’t gone to the networks yet, so. I’ll be happy, very excited to talk about it once we know where its home will be and that kind of stuff, but not at this moment.”

Marvel V. DC - The Next Stage - Looking at the Schedules for 2014 and Beyond!

Well, WB has released a very ambitious plan for the DC universe that certainly mimic’s Marvel’s success over the past few years. 

May 2016 - BATMAN V. SUPERMAN

July 2016 - SHAZAM

Xmas 2016 - SANDMAN

May 2017 - JUSTICE LEAGUE

July 2017 - WONDER WOMAN

This looks pretty cool but how will Shazam and Sandman do is a big question.  Man of Steel was not the massive success that Iron Man was and Green Lantern was not a determining factor in all this either.  Certainly the Batman franchise has been healthy but without Christian Bale and no stand alone Batman film in the plan, one has to wonder if DC can keep the momentum going.  The majority of audiences probably can’t tell the difference between DC and Marvel and will just see these as just more superhero films.  This may steer them to the franchise they have grown to know and love, Marvel.  Of course the Marvel path is a few years old now and perhaps the new franchise will be what people want to see, something different with DC.

My Displeasure With Marvel And DC and What I Found To Fill The Void

I’ve been a fan of comic books since the late 70’s early 80’s, well; let’s just say it’s been a long time.  I have enjoyed reading the heroes of DC and Marvel every week once I pick up the new books on Wednesday when they arrive at the stores or now when they arrive at my doorstep.   Yes even that speed bump that was the 90’s when the books where short on story and big on flash.  Remember the gimmick covers that came out once a month to boost the sales of books that had a weak storyline.  I do but yet I continued to buy them and continued on into the next century reading and enjoying the various super hero comic books the Big Two released every week.   

DC Unveils New Harley Quinn Series by Conner and Palmiotti

DC Comics will be releasing a new Harley Quinn series in November and it will be written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti.   This will be the second Harley Quinn series as the first one ran for 38 issues from 2000 to 2003.  There hasn't been an artist named for the book yet but Amanda Conner will be doing the covers like the one above for issue one.

First Batch Of DC Comics WTF Covers Revealed

In April DC Comics is having a gatefold cover promotion called WTF.  Yes WTF and it does stand for what you think it stands for.  The idea is when you get the comic and open the gatefold cover you are suppose to be all in shock and yell out WTF!   I know pretty lame and instead of gimmicks DC should try and improve the stories and not pissing off the writers that works for them. DC has released some of the covers to the main comic book websites like CBR, ComicVine,Newsarama and MTV Geek.  So far I like a couple of the covers but none of them have me in shock enough to yell WTF. 

DC Brings Back Batman/Superman Comic Book

In June DC Comics will be bringing back the team up book Batman/Superman and give it a fresh look for the New 52.  The book will look at how the two iconic characters first met in The New 52.  The series will be written by Greg Pak and on art duties will be Jae Lee.

New Creative Team Announced For Green Lantern

DC Comics has announced the creative team that will be following Geoff Johns and his incredible run on the comic book.  They will be Robert Venditti and Billy Tan on art duties.  In fact all the Green Lantern books will be a new creative team also and those people are Joshua Hale Fialkov will be writing  Green Lantern  Corps and Red Lanterns with Bernard Chang and Alessandro Vitti.  Green Lantern: New Guardians will have Justin Jordan and Brad Walker and DC will be adding a new book also as Orange Lantern Larfleeze will get his own book with by Keith Giffen and Scott Kolins.

Geoff Johns Leaving Green Lantern With Issue 20

Popular DC Comics writer and long time Green Lantern writer since 2004's Rebirth Geoff Johns is leaving Green Lantern.  His 9 year run with the character will come to an end with issue 20 which he promises will wrap up everything and complete his story.

"I'm really proud of all the stuff we've built with Green Lantern — from Larfleeze to the different corps," Johns told The Associated Press. "It was more than just telling another story, but really giving back to the character by expanding and adding to their mythology."

Geoff Johns will continue to write Aquaman, Justice League and Justice League of America. There hasn't been an announcement on who will be taking over the book.

DC Cancels 4 of the New 52.

DC announced today that Blue Beatle, Legion Lost, Grifter and Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E will be joining G.I Combat as canceled books.  The four mentioned last issue will be out in January and G. I Combat ends in December.  So far only Threshold has been announced as a replacement. No word on the four new titles for February yet.

Batman: Earth One Review

Here is a new take on the Batman legend by writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank.  Batman: Earth 1 was green light right away after the success of Superman: Earth 1.  So in true Batman fashion the duo gives us a new take on Batman’s origin and the path that leads him to be the hero we all know.   So was this Graphic Novel worth the hype that it garnered?

SDCC DC Comics New 52 Panel

DC is holding a panel today on there new 52.  So far they have already dropped 8 of the originals in the relaunch and add 8 new titles.  Here is what they have in store for the future.  Main highlight brought to you by Batgirl writer Gail Simone taken from CBR's article on the panel.

SDCC Batman Beyond The Night of Owls Panel

Here are a few links to the DC Comics Batman panel that took place today at San Diego Comic Con.  The highlight of the panel is definitely this quote by Batman writer Scott Snyder taken from CBR's article on the panel.

"In this series, he sees himself as Batman's Court Jester to the King of the Crown...he believes its his duty to deliver the worst new to the King," Snyder said. "Joker's been away for a year. He's been planning everything and going after everyone. This is the craziest, darkest Joker story we could ever do...he's going to be iconic, but different. When you see his face, you'll know what we mean." Overall, the Joker is looking to punish Batman for forgetting the Clown Prince of Crime. Snyder then called the new arc "our 'Killing Joke'" noting that never before has the Joker taken on the entire Bat Family at once and will do more than target one person or idea at once.

This October The Joker Returns!!!!!

Scott Snyder the man who gave us The Night of Owls is now bringing back The Joker this October 10th in Batman # 13.  The Joker who hasn't been scene since Detective Comics # 1 when he had his face removed.  So now what does Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have in store for the Caped Crusader. Well we will have to wait until October to get this new take on the Joker.  Here is a quote from Greg Capullo and you can read more over at DC The Source at the link below.

John Layman and Jason Fabok Are The New Creative Team On Detective Comics

It didn't take long for DC to announce Tony Daniel's successor for Detective Comics.  I actually thought the news would come out at SDCC.  Taking over for writing duties will be John Laymen and the new artist will be Jason Fabok who has been filling in on The Dark Knight for David Finch.  The duo first issue will be Detective Comics 13 which comes out in October.  Here is a quote from an excited writer John Laymen.

“Obviously, this is a happily surreal and exciting turn-of-events for my career. Not only is this my first work within the DC Universe, but I get to work on one of DC’s undisputedly coolest and highest-profile characters. I’m going to take a look at the role of criminal organizations within Gotham City, hopefully from a perspective that does not get considered very often (if at all). From the symbiotic relationship a master criminal must have with Gotham in order to survive, to the lowly, often faceless criminal underling hoping to rise up the ranks. All that, plus Batman’s gonna play with a bunch of crazy new toys and kick all kinds of butt,"

Tony Daniel Leaving Detective Comics

Tony Daniel announced on his Facebook page that he will no longer be writing and drawing Batman in Detective Comics.  His last issue as writer and artist will be number 12 released this August but will be supplying the art for September's Zero issue event and that will be it.  This is a bummer for me as I enjoyed Tony Daniel's run on Detective when he was artist for Grant Morrison's run.  Here is the statement that was released Friday from his Facebook page.

“It's been a long and adventurous journey for me, but there are other projects in the pipeline that I've been itching to do and I felt the need to scratch the itch,”

“Next week DC will reveal some information on what one of the projects is I'm involved with. Then I'm gearing up for something I've wanted to do for a while in early 2013, a project where I hope to grow even more as an artist and a professional. It is top secret, and probably won't be revealed until the fall. I want to thank all my friends, family and fans for supporting me through these crazy last few years. Onward and Upward!”

No word yet on who will be replacing Tony Daniel but news should be coming soon most likely at this months San Diego Comic Con.
