After a long wait and a lot of speculation on what the New Year’s Day special would be about for the critically acclaimed Sherlock series by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss has finally been shown on our TV Screens.   We now know the answers to all our speculations and was it worth the long wait since 2014 when the show was last on?  Most fans would say yes and for me the lure was seeing the main cast set in Victorian times and yes this special was pretty good if not a tad confusing at times.

Marvel News - Cumberbatch Confirmed As Dr Strange and Jessica Jones News

Marvel Entertainment finally confirmed one of the worst kept secrets of 2014 of Benedict Cumberbatch being cast as Doctor Strange.  The film will be out November 2016 and will be part of Marvels Phase 3.  Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Jon Spaihts.

Marvel has also decided on how will be Jessica Jones and Luke Cage for their proposed Netflix series which is suppose to follow the Daredevil series on Netflix.  They have decided on Krysten Ritter to play Jessica Jones.  Now the rumor to play Luke Cage in the Jessica Jones series is Mike Colter.  He was at the audition for Krysten Ritter so it appears he might be the one to be the super strong hero.
Jessica Jones is one of many 13 episode Netflix series with Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders all coming soon.  Guess it is time to get a Netflix subscription if you don't already have one.

Sherlock Promo Pic Goes Old School

Sue Vertue who is one of the masterminds behind Sherlock along with her husband Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss tweeted a few pictures yesterday.  The first was a picture of the script which is written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and well it is so far has the working title of Sherlock Special.  But what looks like a flashback to the days when Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke were Holmes and Watson.  I am hoping that they will be doing a story set in the later half of the 1800's when Conan Doyle was writing Sherlock Holmes. That would be pretty cool and I would like to see how Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman portray their characters in that setting.

Marvel Vs. DC - Does DC have a chance to compete?

This is an updated post from a few weeks ago with some more titles and dates confirmed.  Included are the names of all the Marvel films into 2019.  We have DC, Marvel and the Marvel products released by Fox and Sony.


I always see this as a war between DC and Marvel and some of the release dates will have them battling for the Box Office.  It is interesting to note that these heavy hitters will be competing for biggest box office for the year not only against one another but against Star Wars, Terminator, Jurassic World, Independence Day 2, and a bunch of Avatar films. The superhero film will not be alone at the top of the box office and one will see if that genre can continue to perform strongly over the years.

Here is a schedule and some thoughts after.

Doctor Strange - November 4, 2016 - This should star Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) which is a superb choice for this part.







Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - May 5, 2017 - Yeah, this was a given.

Thor: Ragnarok - July 2017 - This was a bit of a surprise but makes sense.







Black Panther - November 3, 2017 - Chadwick Boseman (42) is set to play the title character but you see his introduction in Captain America: Civil War.






The Avengers - Infinity War Part 1 - May 4, 2018 - Wow a two part movie that will more than likely see the existing Avengers along with the new team being formed after the events of The Avengers Age of Ultron.

Captain Marvel -(July 6, 2018) Well, our first stand alone female superhero movie by Marvel. A rumor has it that she makes an appearance in the next Avengers film.

Inhumans - November 2, 2018 - a new group of heros.

Marvel Casts Benedict Cumberbatch As Doctor Strange

It appears that Marvel has finally cast Doctor Strange and it is none other than Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch.  Once talks with Joaquin Phoenix have fell through the search was on for a new Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch was one of three on a shortlist to replace him as Sherlock beat out Keanu Reeves and Colin Farrell.  Doctor Strange will be part of Phase 3 and will be out July 8th 2016.

Moffat, Cumberbatch and Freeman Win Emmy Awards For Sherlock

The Emmy Awards were last night and Sherlock came up a big winner in the mini series category.  Steven Moffat won for Writer for the Series 3 finale His Last Bow while Benedict Cumberbatch won for Leading Actor in a Mini Series and Martin Freeman winning for Best Supporting Actor in a Mini Series both for His Last Bow.  Only Steven Moffat was on hand to accept the award which were given out in LA last night.

Sherlock Season 4 - 2016!!!

Yes, Sherlock fans are used to it by now.  Another two year wait until the next season airs as confirmed by series co-creator Mark Gatiss.  Everyone is busy obviously including Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman and so it will be another long wait.  Expect to see season 4 in 2016, hopefully.

Here is one for the ladies and guys also as Benedict Cumberbatch is the cover boy for this weeks Entertainment Weekly.  It is funny that with all the high profile movie roles he has done that Sherlock is what nabs him the cover.  The magazine with Sherlock is out on Friday in the US.

Charles Augustus Magnussen is a blackmailer. A blackmailer who owns a news corporation and he use what he knows to get what he wants.  Right know it is to get an inquiry of his back.  Sherlock Holmes has been asked to get some letters back from him by Lady Smallwood who he has complete power over.  Holmes and Watson look into stopping Magnussen by going as far as fabricating a love affair with his personal assistant to gain entry.  This works all to well and unfortunately for Holmes he gets shot by someone who wants Magnussen dead.  The thing is Sherlock knows who shoots him and it is someone dear to him and Watson.

It’s John and Mary’s wedding day and Sherlock is prepping for his speech as the best man.  Not an easy thing to do the best man speech especially for a high functioning sociopath like Sherlock Holmes.  What Sherlock does is actually tell a tale about one of the cases they were on and unfortunately did not solve as a point in how good of a person Watson is as he was able to save the murder victim.  All during the speech he goes over another case which has been occupying his mind as it ties in with a funny story on how Sherlock and Watson got drunk during the stag night and then proceeded to take on the case in their inebriated state.  As Holmes recalls the case he has an epiphany and realizes that The Mayfly Man is actually targeting someone at John and Mary’s wedding and that the first case he talked about and the Mayfly man case are actually connected.  So the game is afoot at the wedding of John Watson and who thought this cherished occasion would be a normal one.

Well it has been two years since Sherlock jumped off that building and has been thought to be dead by the person he associates with and that includes his best friend John Watson.  Now that he has returned from the dead and being away from London for two years to shut down Moriarty’s network Sherlock has returned.  In two years things have changed and people have gotten on with their lives and how will they react to Sherlock returning to their lives.  Well it has been indeed been a long time since Sherlock has been on television and The Empty Hearse has been one of the most anticipated stories for a long time.  Did the resolution to how Sherlock faked his death satisfactory and what about the story itself which fans have waited two years for did it stand up to all the hoopla surrounding it?

How did it feel reading the first script of the new series? 

It’s always a kind of cold-faced thrill because you get the first enjoyment of it. It’s like being the first audience of the finished product, so it was a real treat. We knew what the rough trajectory was over the three films, but when you get the full script it’s just a delight. The first thing I go to is the big scenes, and every one of those scripts is a terrific read. It’s such a joy to read them for the first time – you get that thrill that hopefully the audience will get when they sit down and watch it.

What was it like getting back into character after a two-year break?
