Marvel vs. DC - Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War, Legends of Tomorrow, Jessica Jones and Supergirl

The imaginary war between Marvel and DC that I have so excitedly embraced has begun to step it up a notch with the coming of the Batman v Superman trailer.  Marvel is fighting back with Captain America: Civil War.  Meanwhile on television, it is mayhem.

Batman vs. Superman Trailer - Finally.

I would say that this trailer does a good job in keeping my interest in the film and while there was one OMG moment, the rest of the trailer looked just good.  There is also quite a bit of spoilers in there as well.  I am looking forward to it, of course but I am still worried that it will disappoint.

The TV season is back in full force but are the super hero shows any good? We have more shake up news for Marvel and take a look at two documentaries about super hero movies that were never released and one that was never made.

Television - I have to admit that most of my excitement toward Marvel right now is in the form of their Netflix TV series. Jessica Jones is teasing us and I can't wait and now Daredevil will begin to get us thinking about that show... and I can't wait. With the Marvel Netflix Universe doing an excellent job establishing itself, I like the report that there may be a plan down the line to crossover into the other Marvel TV Universe with Agents of SHIELD. As long as they don't do it too often, I like this idea.

I set out to do this column monthly but there is just too much information going on right now.  We have trailers for two new superhero series starting next season including Supergirl. With The Avengers: Age of Ultron topping 1 billion in the box office, what do we think is going to happen next year with Captain America: Civil War? And has marvel found it's Spider-Man?

Forget the movies. That particular battle between DC and Marvel doesn't really get interesting until next year. Right now the battle is on television and while they are not really going against each other head to head, it is still interesting to see how both sides are amping up their game with their current and future series. There is so much going on right now and I am not even dealing with the animated series.

DC vs. Marvel - DC is Winning! On Television, that is.

On Television that is.   Yes, I know, DC has usually done fairly well on TV, this is nothing new but they are kicking butt big time right now.  I have been critical of DC’s vision for their movie franchise and probably unfairly.  Their recent Batman movies were excellent but they have done little else.  Meanwhile Marvel is so far ahead of them in terms of their plans that by the time DC’s first phase kicks into high gear, Marvel will be in its third phase.  It is not that DC is doing it wrong (Man of Steel was a misstep for sure) the problem is that it’s taking time getting going. Not true for Television - DC is doing everything right - in my opinion.

Gotham Soars in the ratings and gets full season

Fox likes what it sees with its Batman series Gotham and green lights a full season going from 16 to 22 episodes.  Not only is Gotham one of Fox's biggest shows, it owns televisions biggest increase in ratings within the past few weeks.

If you did not watch the MLB All Star Game last night you probably missed out on the new trailer for Gotham.  Well have no fear we have it here. Well so does every other news site and blog but anyway here it is along with a poster that you can get a SDCC ' 14.

New Gotham Teaser Featuring Bruce Wayne

Official Extended Trailer For Gotham

Fox debuted the official trailer for Gotham the Batman centric series that takes place during the year of Bruce Wayne's parents getting murdered.  It focuses on Jim Gordon and I am interested to see how they concentrate on the stories leading up to the Gotham City we know now in the comic books.  The first trailer looks really good and I am glad they are going for a dark and gritty show.  Can't wait for the fall to watch this show.

Gotham To Feature Marquee Villains and Bruce Wayne

Fox has announced that the new Gotham show will not only just feature Commissioner Gordon but will also feature a 10 year old Bruce Wayne.  Obviously this story will be taking place in the days following the murder of the Waynes.  So I'm guessing Alfred will be featured in the series also but that is only speculation on my part.  It was also confirmed that The Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman will be featured and we will see the events that shaped them into the villains we know today.  Here is what  Fox Chairman Kevin Reilly had to say about Gotham and the villains.

"The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12-years-old) until he puts on a cape in the finale. We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge"

"Gotham" A New Series Focusing On Gordon Headed To Fox

Gotham a series focusing on the early years of Commissioner Gordon before the arrival of Batman has been given a series commitment from Fox.  Bruno Heller who is the creator of the Mentalist will write and executive produce the series.  The series is set to focus on the early days of Gordon as a detective and the villains that would later plague Batman.  This is pretty good news considering that we might be getting a Flash series and with Arrow and Shield around it is looking good for super heroes to be having a major presence on TV.
