Marvel Vs. DC - Fall TV, Zach Snyder, Wonder Woman and Spielberg

By Ken Parker

A fairly busy period for Marvel and DC.  With the fall season almost upon us and studios getting geared up for 2016 and beyond, there seems to be a lot going on.  As always we look at some of the conflicts between Marvel and DC but let's begin with some rumors.

Marvel V. DC - The Next Stage - Looking at the Schedules for 2014 and Beyond!

By Ken Parker

Well, WB has released a very ambitious plan for the DC universe that certainly mimic’s Marvel’s success over the past few years.

May 2016 - BATMAN V. SUPERMAN
July 2016 - SHAZAM
Xmas 2016 - SANDMAN
May 2017 - JUSTICE LEAGUE
July 2017 - WONDER WOMAN
XMAS 2017 - UNTITLED GREEN LANTERN/THE FLASH TEAM-UP
MAY 2018 - MAN OF STEEL 2

This looks pretty cool but how will Shazam and Sandman do is a big question.  Man of Steel was not the massive success that Iron Man was and Green Lantern was not a determining factor in all this either.  Certainly the Batman franchise has been healthy but without Christian Bale and no stand alone Batman film in the plan, one has to wonder if DC can keep the momentum going.  The majority of audiences probably can’t tell the difference between DC and Marvel and will just see these as just more superhero films.  This may steer them to the franchise they have grown to know and love, Marvel.  Of course the Marvel path is a few years old now and perhaps the new franchise will be what people want to see, something different with DC.

Batman and Superman will battle in 2016

Well, that is probably a good idea.  Originally scheduled to go in 2015 along with every other sequel and remake in Sci-Fi and Fantasy you can imagine (Terminator, Mad Max, Jurassic Park, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, James Bond and Star Wars just to name a few) Man of Steel 2 will wait until 2016 and I would expect a couple more will follow suite.  Many will agree that Man of Steel 2 will have a lot to live up to.  Not only does it have to introduce and sell to us a new Batman (Ben Affleck) but it also has to do damage control for the many fans who were let down by Man of Steel.

'Man of Steel' review (no spoilers, but not much good to say either)

"It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's ... well, not really Superman, is it?"
The name "Superman" is barely mentioned in "Man of Steel." It comes up briefly in a single scene, is uttered three times, and we never hear it again.

That's a sign, no doubt, on several levels that director Zack Snyder wanted to create his own Man of Tomorrow legend. At that, he has succeeded.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way he forgot to make a good movie about his own version of the most iconic of all superheroes.

'Man of Steel' super spoilers .... OK, not so super

Henry Cavill flies into theaters as Superman on June 14, 2013.
You have to give the people at ComicBookMovie.com credit. When it comes to news about "Man of Steel," they dig and dig and dig some more. Rather than full-scale spoilers, their most recent efforts have resulted in a some smaller tidbits taken from a call sheet from the movie set.

First:
Okay, so the first scene involves Clark in a bar where loggers like to frequent. This is a dive bar, the customers are a surly bunch as they like to throw beer cans and such. Clark will be confronted by someone named Ludlow, and he'll have to keep his anger in check.
Second:
Alright, and now it's time for the fun stuff. Number five in the call sheet refers to Superman's father Jor-El. The following information takes place on Krypton and it appears as though Jor-El has been wounded in battle by a sword, which is also referred to as an energy lance. Number 11 in the call sheet is referring to Lara, Superman's mother, while number 46 might be baby Superman, Kal-El. Before Jor-El and Lara say goodbye to their child, Jor-El will infuse something into his heart.

You call these 'Man of Steel' spoilers? Really?

Sorry, Clark, but no one is stopping the presses for this news.
When is a spoiler not a spoiler?

How about when it's so obvious, that any comic book movie geek worth their weight in MacGuffins could figure it out?

Cosmic Book News is teasing us with the following headline: "Superman: Man of Steel (2013): Exclusive Movie Climax Details."

And the big secret is ....

at the end of the movie, Superman fights the bad guys.

Henry Cavill - shirtless, again

"I don't care if the trunks are missing. I want my supersuit back!"
More pictures of Henry Cavill with his shirt off as he films scenes for "Man of Steel?" Why not? These come courtesy of ComingSoon.net.The film itself won't hit theaters until June.

Henry Cavill looks super with his shirt off

Superman doesn't always need his heat vision to make things hot.
The new Superman costume has sparked a heated Internet debate. Where are his trunks? Does it look like it's made of plastic.

But we have no questions about the latest photos from the set of "Man of Steel" in Vancouver, British Columbia. The heat - this one is for you, ladies - is generated by Henry Cavill appearing without a shirt.

Photo credit goes to Lorraine Louie, who emailed the shots to Den Of Geek.

Why is Clark Kent wandering around half-dressed? We won't know for sure until the movie hits theaters in 2013.

Where are Superman's pants? New photos of Henry Cavill in costume for "Man of Steel"

One of the early controversies surrounding pictures from the filming of "Man of Steel" is the loss of the trademark trunks on Henry Cavill's Superman uniform. The latest photos, courtesy of "Kal-El.9859" and "wacots," have been posted at SuperHero
Hype

And where's the cape in these shots?

Personally, I am more bothered by the general appearance of the uniform. It looks like he has been dressed in blue Saran Wrap.
