Marvel Vs DC - Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, The Flash, The Defenders and more

The imaginary war between Marvel and DC has just raised the bar with all that has come out of this year's San Diego Comic Con.  In addition to a slew of clips and trailers, some of which have not made it to the internet yet, there was plenty of news.

Doctor Strange Trailer - Nice!!

Lots to cover this time out so let's get to it.

Doctor Strange - First up - this -

Batman Vs Superman – Okay, this is it.  The all important movie that would make or break the franchise.  First off, how was the movie?  Well, it could have been worse and it could have been better.  There are quite a few nitpicks that I could go over but others have done a better job –

Overall I enjoyed the film and don’t think it was as bad as critics say.  I can understand some of the criticism toward the Superman character.  He is still not right in the film.  But apparently that is what we have so time to get over it.  Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot are perfect playing Batman and Wonder Woman and in the case of Wonder Woman, she is the best part of the film by far.  The worst part was Lex Luthor played by Jessie Eisenberg.  This was not Lex Luthor, more like the Joker really.  This was glaringly bad and if someone told me they hated the movie because of this then I would have to concede that point.  There is a lot to look past in the film for sure but there is a lot to like about the film.  I do like the dark tone and look of the film.  I feel that if they tried to tone this down a bit it would look too much like Marvel’s universe and so I am fine with it as it is now.

The TV season is back in full force but are the super hero shows any good? We have more shake up news for Marvel and take a look at two documentaries about super hero movies that were never released and one that was never made.

Television - I have to admit that most of my excitement toward Marvel right now is in the form of their Netflix TV series. Jessica Jones is teasing us and I can't wait and now Daredevil will begin to get us thinking about that show... and I can't wait. With the Marvel Netflix Universe doing an excellent job establishing itself, I like the report that there may be a plan down the line to crossover into the other Marvel TV Universe with Agents of SHIELD. As long as they don't do it too often, I like this idea.

A fairly busy period for Marvel and DC.  With the fall season almost upon us and studios getting geared up for 2016 and beyond, there seems to be a lot going on.  As always we look at some of the conflicts between Marvel and DC but let's begin with some rumors.

With the next TV season almost upon us we see a lot of exciting match-ups in this ongoing and fun battle between Marvel and DC.  The tides seem to be slightly changing due to a horrible outing by Fantastic Four but until Deadpool and Batman Vs Superman come out next year, all we really have is what is on TV and that is certainly exciting.  This time around I also look at what I think are the most important events for either side in the following year or so.

I set out to do this column monthly but there is just too much information going on right now.  We have trailers for two new superhero series starting next season including Supergirl. With The Avengers: Age of Ultron topping 1 billion in the box office, what do we think is going to happen next year with Captain America: Civil War? And has marvel found it's Spider-Man?

Marvel Vs. DC -The Television Battleground - Update

Forget the movies. That particular battle between DC and Marvel doesn't really get interesting until next year. Right now the battle is on television and while they are not really going against each other head to head, it is still interesting to see how both sides are amping up their game with their current and future series. There is so much going on right now and I am not even dealing with the animated series.

DC Entertainment is Developing a Supergirl TV Series

Arrow and The Flash's Greg Berlanti has confirmed that plans are in place to produce a Supergirl TV series. No word on if the CW would pick up the proposed series which could lead to a Supergirl, Arrow and Flash crossover. Berlanti stated -

“We’re just starting to work on it,” Berlanti said. “We haven’t gone to the networks yet, so. I’ll be happy, very excited to talk about it once we know where its home will be and that kind of stuff, but not at this moment.”

There was a Flash promo at SDCC today and I have to say that I am really looking forward to this show.  If you pay attention the comic book fans will be able to pick out the Easter eggs in this clip. 

Robbie Amell Is Joining The Flash As Ronnie "Firestorm" Raymond

The Flash TV series has added another cast member and hero this time it is Stephen Amell's cousin Robbie Amell who you might recognize from the CW's ill fated reboot of The Tomorrow People.  Robbie Amell will be playing Ronnie Raymond who comic book fans will know is the secret identity for Firestorm.  If anything this season of Arrow and The Flash is going to have its fair share of hero's around.

TV Show Updates - Cancellations, Renewals and New Series

With the fate of a few more shows announced today I thought I would review the status of sci-fi and fantasy shows set for the fall of 2014 and list the shows that did not make it.  Expect the fate of all shows to be determined in the next week or so.

Grant Gustin In The Flash Costume

Here is one of many first pictures of Grant Gustin in The Flash costume.  I think it looks pretty good and it isn't the in your face red and yellow as in the comic book but more of a toned down version of the costume.

WB Casts Grant Gustin As The Flash For Arrow And Potential Spinoff

The WB has cast Glee actor Grant Gustin as The Flash for three episodes of series 2 of Arrow.  Grant Gustin will appear as Barry Allen in episodes 8, 10 and 20 of this series.  For those that don't know Barry Allen is a Central City Police Forensic officer who works mainly in a lab.  The 20th episode will be a sort of pilot for The Flash and if all goes well maybe there will be a Flash series next TV season.

'Arrow' adding The Flash to cast, spinoff series possible

Let's hope they get along a little better than this.

Faster than a speeding arrow?

You have to think so. The CW announced Tuesday that The Flash will join the cast of "Arrow" as a recurring character. And, if all goes well, he could race off into his own series.

“We do want to expand upon the DC Universe," network President Mark Pedowitz told Tuesday's annual Television Critics Association press tour, according to The Associated Press. "We think that there are rich characters we can use, and we felt like this was a very organic way to get there.”

“Arrow” debuted in the 2012-2013 season as The CW’s most popular new show. Starring Stephen Arnell as Oliver Queen, the show returns for a second season in October.

There was no word on who might don the red-and-yellow tights to play Barry Allen/The Flash.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox DC Animation Trailer

Based on the Geoff Johns Flashpoint mini series that came out in 2011 and which lead into DC Comics new 52 launch is a story about The Flash and an alternate history of Earth. The Blu Ray arrives in store on July 30th in the US .
