Doctor Who Books to Release Lost Douglas Adams Story "The Krikkitmen"

Doctor Who Books will yet again be releasing a Douglas Adams story.  This time a rejected screen play from 1976 that he eventualy retooled for his third Hitchhikers novel "Life, the Universe and Everything".  The book will again be adapted by James Goss who also novelized "The Pirate Planet" which came out earlier this year.  The book will be released in January of 2018.

Intergalactic war? That’s just not cricket … or is it?

The Doctor promised Romana the end of the universe, so she’s less than impressed when what she gets is a cricket match. But then the award ceremony is interrupted by eleven figures in white uniforms and peaked skull helmets, wielding bat-shaped weapons that fire lethal bolts of light into the screaming crowd. The Krikkitmen are back.

Millions of years ago, the people of Krikkit learned they were not alone in the universe, and promptly launched a xenophobic crusade to wipe out all other life-forms. After a long and bloody conflict, the Time Lords imprisoned Krikkit within an envelope of Slow Time, a prison that could only be opened with the Wicket Gate key, a device that resembles – to human eyes, at least – an oversized set of cricket stumps…

From Earth to Gallifrey, from Bethselamin to Devalin, from Krikkit to Mareeve II to the far edge of infinity, the Doctor and Romana are tugged into a pan-galactic conga with fate as they rush to stop the Krikkitmen gaining all five pieces of the key. If they fail, the entire cosmos faces a fiery retribution that will leave nothing but ashes…

BBC Books to Release Three New Doctor Who Books Featuring the 12th Doctor

BBC Books have announced three new books featuring the 12th Doctor, Nardole and Bill that will be out in the UK on April 20th.  The three new books are Diamond Dogs by Mike Tucker,  The Shining Man by Cavan Scott and Plague City by Jonathan Morris. You can pre - order these books now on Amazon.

The Shining Man
By Cavan Scott

“Being scared is the least of your worries.”

The Shining Men are everywhere. You spot them out of the corner of your eye. Abnormally tall, with long lank hair, blank faces and blazing eyes. If they catch you, they’ll drag you away to who knows where. No one is safe. They’re on every street corner. Waiting. Watching. Shining bright.

Of course it’s a hoax. It has to be, right? It started as a joke, a prank for Halloween. Then it went viral. Idiots dressing up as monsters. Giving folk a scare. Silly masks and fright wigs. No one gets hurt. Because bogeymen aren’t real.

Until people start going missing and lights burn in the darkness. Burning like eyes. But help is on its way, in the form of a strange man called the Doctor and his friend, Bill.

The Doctor will keep us safe. The Doctor will stop the monsters. Unless the monsters stop the Doctor first...

Plague City
By Jonathan Morris

“We should leave. We definitely should leave. But... chatty ghosts!”

The year is 1645, and Edinburgh is in the grip of the worst plague in its history. Nobody knows who will be the next to succumb – nobody except the Night Doctor, a masked figure that stalks the streets, seeking out those who will not live to see another day.

But death is not the end. The Doctor, Bill and Nardole discover that the living are being haunted by the recently departed – by ghosts that do not know they are dead. And there are other creatures lurking in the shadows, slithering, creeping creatures filled with an insatiable hunger.

The Doctor and his friends must face the terrifying secret of the Street of Sorrows – that something which has lain dormant for two hundred million years is due to destroy the entire city...

Diamond Dogs
By Mike Tucker

For over fifteen years the crew of Kollo-Zarnista Mining Facility 27 has been extracting diamonds from deep within the atmosphere of Saturn, diamonds that help to fund the ever-expanding Human Empire. But when a mining operation goes wrong, a rescue mission must be launched to save a worker lost overboard, a worker who claims that he has seen something amongst the swirling clouds.

Something that can’t possibly exist.

When the Doctor and Bill arrive, they immediately find themselves caught between hostile miners, suspicious security guards and corrupt company officials as they face accusations of sabotage and diamond theft.

And below them, in the crushing atmosphere of the gas giant, something is starting to rise.

“Here on Saturn, it literally rains diamonds.”

Doctor Who - 10th Doctor and Donna Take On Internet Trolls In New Book

There will be a new Doctor Who book coming out in the UK on May 12th (December in the US). The plot of the story sees The Doctor facing off against Internet Trolls that are being manipulated by aliens so that they can feed off the hatred generated by the humans.  This is an interesting concept for a book as everyone has had encounters with internet trolls in one way or another on Facebook or Twitter.  Below is the synopsis for In the Blood.

All over the world, people are 'ghosting' each other on social media. Dropping their friends, giving vent to their hatred, and everywhere behaving with incredible cruelty. Even Donna has found that her friend Hettie, with her seemingly perfect life and fancy house, has unfriended her. And now, all over the world, internet trolls are dying...

As more and more people give in to this wave of bitterness and aggression, it's clear this is no simple case of modern living. This is unkindness as a plague.

From the streets of London to the web cafes of South Korea and the deepest darkest forests of Rio, can the Doctor and Donna find the cause of this unhappiness before it's too late?

An original novel featuring the Tenth Doctor and Donna, as played by David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

Doctor Who - The Legends of Ashildr Synopsis

Out now is a book based on the Maisie Williams series 9 character Ashildr.  If you are a fan of this character and want to know what she was up to while she was immortal and was living her long life.

Ashildr, a young Viking girl, died helping the Doctor and Clara to save the village she loved. And for her heroism, the Doctor used alien technology to bring her back to life. Ashildr is now immortal – The Woman Who Lived.

Since that day, Ashildr has kept journals to chronicle her extraordinary life. The Legends of Ashildr is a glimpse of some of those stories: the terrors she has faced, the battles she has won, and the treasures she has found.

These are tales of a woman who lived longer than she should ever have lived – and lost more than she can even remember.

An original novel featuring the Twelfth Doctor as played by Peter Capaldi, and Ashildr as played by Maisie Williams.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Eater of Wasps By @Paul_Bowler

Doctor Who:
Eater of Wasps
By Trevor Baxendale
Reviewed By Paul Bowler

The TARDIS arrives in the quiet little village of Marpling in 1933, where the Doctor, Anji, and Fitz discover that a deadly artefact from the future has been unleashed on the unsuspecting villages. Having taken over a wasps nest in a garden shed, the device mutates the insects, which then begin to attack the villages. But the Doctor and his companions are not the only time-travellers here. A special team of commandoes have been sent to deal with the threat, with orders to either recover the weapon or destroy the entire area if anything should go wrong. The Doctor and his friends must find a way to stay one step ahead of the time-travelling soldiers, as well as the local authorities, in a desperate race against time to track down the source of the outbreak and save the world.

Eater of Wasps is a compelling and dark eighth Doctor Novel by Trevor Baxendale. The Doctor is still recovering his memory as this point, making him a little erratic and unpredictable at times. Baxendale captures the eighth Doctor’s character perfectly, with the Time Lord reminiscing about his past as events unfold around him, before flying into action when danger strikes. New companion Anji begins to revaluate her life, while trying to decide if she can trust the Doctor. Fitz doesn’t get quite as much to do in this story, but he has some great scenes with the Doctor, and he works really well with Anji. They each see different sides to the Doctor, with Fitz being more trusting while Anji has her doubts, and this creates an interesting dynamic between the Time Lord and his companions.

The villagers are all well developed characters: there is a nosey neighbour Mrs Havers, as well as the dynamic Hilary Pink, lonely teenager Liam, and Charles Rigby, who are all just a few of the colourful and eccentric characters that populate Baxendale’s story. The time-travelling commandoes are also a great bunch of characters, especially Kala, and her scenes with the Doctor are excellent.

Eater of Wasps contains some very graphic and disturbing scenes of horror, as the wasp’s attacks become increasingly violent, and the ghastly images of wasps pouring into peoples mouths will linger long after you have finished the book. Rigby’s transformation is also brilliantly handled, and genuinely horrifying. There is a gut wrenching autopsy scene, a creepy moment where the Doctor and Fitz explore Rigby’s house and a fantastic sequence on a train.

This is an extremely well written eighth Doctor book, with a great TARDIS crew, and the story is thoroughly engaging, if a little horrific in places. Eater of Wasps is a very traditional feeling Doctor Who story, full of well written characters, and it has some chilling scenes of body horror that are sure to make your skin crawl. It starts slowly and quickly builds to a nail biting showdown, a great book, and highly recommended.
