Doctor Who - Prisoners of Time Issue 3 Review (Mild Spoilers)

Doctor Who
Prisoners of Time Issue 3
By Scott & David Tipton
Art By Mike Collins

The Doctor and Sarah Jane return to Earth and are greeted by Liz Shaw.  She explains to The Doctor that the Brigadier is acting weird and issuing orders that are very questionable.  The Doctor soon discovers the Brigadier he has been taken over by an alien called Remoraxian.  The Remoraxian is an alien that likes to turn planets into 100 percent water and since Earth is mostly water it is ideal for the Remoraxians to invade.  So it’s up to The Doctor and UNIT to once again save the world from an alien attack.

The third issue in IDW’s anniversary tale was one that actually felt like a story from that particular Doctor’s era.  It felt like it could fit in quite well with the Pertwee stories as it had action and of course a gadget made by The Doctor.  It even had a shoot first over reaction from a certain politician also.

What I did not care for was how easy it was to defeat the Remoraxian.  It wasn’t all that difficult and was really a letdown. All they did was tell them that nukes were launched against England and their base and they simply left.  Yep that’s it a big letdown to a story that was actually quite entertaining for the most part. It’s too bad that the story had such a ending that felt rushed and well it made me believe the writers did not know how to end it.

With that said the last page made up for it as we get a better glimpse of the villain and The Doctor sees who is taking his companions out of time.  That part was pretty intriguing as I’m sure people might be guessing who it might be.  So in all an issue 3 was pretty decent with a poor conclusion but a cool cliffhanger.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Planet of Spiders

Doctor Who
Planet of Spiders
By Robert Sloman

“A tear, Sarah Jane? No, don't cry. While there's life there's.”

The Doctor has received a package in the mail from Jo.  She has returned The Great Crystal because it was giving her a bad vibe and sent back to him to sort out.   The Doctor and Brigadier go and see clairvoyant Professor Herbert Clegg and have him look at the crystal. That idea back fires on The Doctor as Clegg sees images of giant spiders and ends up dying from a fear induced heart attack.

Meanwhile at a Buddhist meditation clinic Mike Yates suspects that a group is meeting secretly in the cellar and trying to conjure up something to give them great power.  Mike asks Sarah Jane to help him out and after almost getting run over by a hallucination of a tractor.  Sarah and Mike then sneak into the cellar and watch what is going on when they see a giant spider materialize.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: The Monster of Peladon

Doctor Who:
The Monster of Peladon
By Brian Hayles

“Haroon, haroon, haroon. Haroon, haroon, haroon. Haroon, haroon, haroon. Haroon, haroon, haroon. Haroon. That's better. You remember me now, don't you, old chap.”

The Doctor brings Sara Jane to Peladon but he gets the time wrong.  He has arrived 50 years later than when he was last there and King Peladon is dead and now his daughter Queen Thalira is sitting on the throne and she seems to have problems of her own.  The miners are feeling exploited by the Government of Peladon since the Federation is at war with Galaxy 5 and the demand for  trisilicate is in high demand the miners feel they have not been getting any improvements in their way of life.

Ettis gets the miners to rise up and strike against the Federation and they successfully seize the armory.   Things are getting really out of hand and Eckersley calls in Federation security force to help quell the strike and get mining of trisilicate back on track.  The Doctor is pretty suspicious of all the situations going around especially the statue of Aggedor appearing out of thin air.  Plus what has him worried the most is that the security force showed up awfully fast and now it appears The Ice Warriors and Eckersley may in fact be working for Galaxy 5.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Death to the Daleks by @Blackadder345

Doctor Who:
Death to The Daleks
By Terry Nation
Review By Will Barber

The Doctor: It's rather a pity, in a way...now the universe is down to 699 wonders.

An energy drain makes uneasy allies of the Third Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, a Marine Space Corps expedition and a squadron of Daleks.  They are trapped on the planet Exxilon with its hostile natives. The key to escape lies at the heart of a powerful and mysterious lost city but only after a series of deadly traps.
Death to the Daleks is a serial about death and dying.  It starts off when the TARDIS loses power and crashes. Indeed, it seems like the TARDIS is dead. Whether it is the Exillions, the Daleks, or the city itself, the plot echoes the theme of the end of life and the beginning of another, possibly reflecting the fact that this was one of the last times that we would enjoy The Third Doctor.

Here We Go Again. Matt Smith Doctor Who Rumors

It appears the Sun a UK tabloid newspaper is suggesting yet again that Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who with this years Christmas Special being the story he regenerates.  They state that his contract ends this November and that he will do the anniversary special and Christmas special.

Well it is possible that he will leave sooner rather than later as he is finishing up his 3rd series on the show so its always possible that the Sun article could be true.   I mean we have this quote from Matt Smith from Jonathan Ross last week that seems a bit cryptic.

"I am very happy doing it. I do the anniversary special, then the Christmas special. At the moment it’s 2013 and we will see what 2014 holds.”
The BBC is being coy also as they have issued a response to The Sun's story.

“Sorry folks but even we don’t know what’s going to happen at Christmas. It’s not been written yet! But Matt loves the show and is to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and the new series starting on Easter Saturday.”

Well I take it like this.  Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who at some point.  They all do its inevitable.  When the time comes no one should be shocked or surprised as it is just the nature of the beast and actors want to do other projects.  So yes, Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who we just do not know when yet.

New Poster For Star Trek Into Darkness

I liked the first poster they came out with. I really did as I thought it looked pretty cool and really gave a feeling what the movie was about.  Now we have this new one and I like this one also as it really looks good and I can't wait for May.

Peter Jackson Wants To Direct Doctor Who

I guess when he gets sick of Hobbits and Middle Earth Peter Jackson would love to direct Doctor Who.  In fact he wants to do it so bad that he would do it free.  The full interview is in todays Entertainment Weekly and here is a snippet of what he said.

"They don't even have to pay me," Jackson joked, adding: "I have got my eye on one of those nice new gold-coloured Daleks. They must have a spare one!"
Lets hope Steven Moffat is listening as this would be pretty cool to have the guy who brought Tolkien to life before our eyes to direct a Doctor Who adventure.
